Abstract

Anemia, characterized by below-normal hemoglobin levels, is a common problem among pregnant women and can have serious consequences if left untreated. Fe (iron) plays a role in increasing hemoglobin synthesis in the body. Giving guava and cantaloupe juice containing vitamin C is expected to increase Fe absorption so that it can increase hemoglobin levels in pregnant women. The type of research used was a quasi-experiment with a pre- and post-test control group research design. The research sample was divided into two groups, namely the experimental group with the treatment of giving Fe tablets accompanied by guava juice and cantaloupe and the control group, which was only given Fe tablets. The number of samples was 18 pregnant women in the second and third trimesters in each group. The study was conducted for 1 month at Mrs. “N” PMB in Mojoagung, Jombang. There is a relationship between the administration of Fe tablets accompanied by red guava juice and cantaloupe in pregnant women, where pregnant women who consume Fe tablets and red guava juice and cantaloupe experience higher hemoglobin levels than the control group who only consume Fe tablets. Consumption of Fe tablets accompanied by guava and cantaloupe juice can increase hemoglobin levels in pregnant women. For further research, lab tests can be conducted to measure vitamin C levels in several juice formulas.

Abstract

The proportion of elderly individuals in Indonesia rose from 7.57 percent in 2012 to 10.48 percent in 2022, with projections indicating a continued increase to 19.9 percent by 2045. This demographic shift underscores the need for focused attention on the aging population. This study aims to identify the factors influencing low visitation rates of the elderly to the Posyandu (Integrated Health Post) in Sebotok Village, under the purview of the Labuhan Badas Unit II Primary Health Center. Employing an analytical research design with a cross-sectional approach, the study surveyed 46 respondents selected through purposive sampling, utilizing a questionnaire as the primary instrument. Statistical analysis employed Fisher's exact test, revealing significant correlations between posyandu accessibility (p-value = 0.000), knowledge (p-value = 0.008), and family support (p-value = 0.000) with elderly visitation rates. However, no significant relationships were found between the services provided by health workers (p-value = 0.536) or posyandu volunteers (p-value = 0.536) and elderly visitation. Recommendations include enhancing education initiatives aimed at families and the elderly to emphasize the importance of regular health check-ups for the elderly population.

Abstract

Pain management in the Emergency Department (ED) is crucial for humanitarian reasons and is associated with significant morbidity. Previously, pharmacologic therapies like acetaminophen, opioids, and NSAIDs were used, but they carry risks of side effects. Non-pharmacological interventions are often used in conjunction with pharmaceutical therapies to improve pain management and reduce opioid use. This study's purpose was to describe the non-pharmacological interventions that nurses can provide in addressing pain experienced by patients in the ED. This is a literature study from several databases such as Science Direct, ProQuest, SpringerLink, and PubMed using keywords combined with Boolean. The study's selection process involved searching 769 articles using keywords, excluding 27 duplicates and 712 articles not meeting research objectives. After a full-text review of 30 selected articles, 19 were excluded, and 11 were selected for inclusion. Acupuncture therapy is the most commonly used non-pharmacological therapy, followed by warm/cold compresses, distraction, and deep breath relaxation. Non-pharmacological therapies can be given to manage pain in patients in the ED. Combining pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies can provide more analgesia for severe pain.

Abstract

Elderly people often experience neuropathic pain in the extremities of the feet which is caused by decreased blood vascularization in the feet. One effort that can be made to increase blood vascularization in the feet is by doing foot exercises. This study aims to determine the effect of foot exercises on pain conditions due to neuropathy experienced by the elderly. This research was Quasi-experimental research with 22 elderly people who met certain criteria and then divided into control and intervention groups. Variable which is pre and post-test neuropathic pain data were obtained using the Numeric Rating Scale instrument in the observation sheet. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test in the intervention group showed a p-value = 0.003, while in the control group the p-value= 0.643. These results indicate that the change in neuropathic pain was significant in the intervention group after being given foot exercises. Foot exercise movements have a relaxing effect on the feet, thereby stimulating the production of endorphin hormones. Endorphin hormones play a role in blocking substance P which plays a role in triggering pain. This blocked substance P results in the transmission of pain impulses in the spinal cord being hampered so that the intensity of neuropathic pain in the lower extremities can decrease.
