Abstract

Background: The PICO framework is frequently applied to formulate question for conducting literature searching in the evidence-based practices (EBPs) development. However, students experienced challenges in fitting the clinical questions into PICO's format. In Indonesia, the EBP was mostly taught conventionally through lectures and discussions. There was no specific evaluation for assessing the accuracy of the PICO formula. Previous studies indicated that incorporating visual art in learning effectively improves students' observation skills, self-confidence, communication skills, and promotes transformational learning.Purpose: To describe the implementation of the PICO game and visual art as an EBP learning method and evaluate the accuracy of the PICO formula and the visual art created by nursing students, including their perspectives on the applied EBP learning method.Method: This descriptive study was conducted at a secondary hospital in Sumedang District, West Java-Indonesia, in July 2023. Totally 53 nursing profession program (NPP) students of a University in Indonesia were voluntarily recruited as participants. They divided into 9 groups and received a description of how to play the PICO game and visual art for developing the PICO formula question. Each group required to develop PICO questions from the PICO trigger pictures and keywords on the PICO worksheets and to draw at least one visual art illustration from the developed PICO question. At the end of those sessions, they were also required to provide opinions on this EBP learning approach. The PICO question accuracy was assessed using the PICO formula observation sheet, while the visual art compatibility was measured using the visual art observation sheet. Quantitative data were analyzed descriptively and the students’ perspectives on the EBP learning processes were analyzed by identifying the topic mostly described. Results: There were 63 PICO formulas and 18 visual art illustrations. Most of the PICO formulas (93.7%) were identified as accurate. However, more than one-third (41.3%) of the PICO formula did not include the C (comparison) component. More than half of the developed visual art illustrations (61%) were inappropriately describing the developed PICO formula. Participants reported that using PICO Games and visual art was an interesting and fun approach that enhanced their comprehension of the PICO question formula, EBP, and improved their teamwork capacity. Conclusion: The PICO game and visual art learning method facilitates high accuracy of the PICO question formula and is perceived as an effective and interesting EBP learning method. However, as the “C” (comparison) is the PICO component mostly found uncompleted, it is important to elaborate more on this issue in the EBP learning session. It is also important to extend the duration of the EBP learning method to facilitate students drawing the expected visual art appropriately. Further studies are needed to further confirm and follow up on the findings of this study.

Abstract

Background: The number of Tuberculosis (TB) sufferers in various regions is still high. Efforts to reduce tuberculosis rates carried out by the health service have not produced much results. One of the factors that determines the recovery of TB patients is compliance in taking anti-tuberculosis medication. Tuberculosis sufferers who do not comply with taking intensive phase medication according to the dosage rules set by health workers can develop drug resistance or rifampicin resistance, so the chance of being cured is smaller.Purpose: To determine factors of non-adherence to anti-tuberculosis treatment during intensive phase treatment of pulmonary tuberculosisMethod: This research uses cross-sectional research. This method is used to examine the relationship between one or more dependent variables and one or more independent variables at a certain time, in this case variables related to patient compliance in the intensive phase of TB treatment. The subjects in this study were 53 patients suffering from pulmonary TB in the working area of the Aikmel Community Health Center, East Lombok. The research sample was selected using the total sampling method. Data collection uses interviews and questionnaires. Data analysis in cross-sectional research involves several steps to describe and interpret the characteristics or variables observed at a particular point in time. Results: The variables education level, attitude and age have a significant relationship with adherence to taking anti-tuberculosis drugs in the intensive phase. In the education variable, the p-value (Significance Value): 0.008, Relative Influence (PR): 5.989 and Confidence Interval (CI): 1.602 – 22.389, in the attitude variable p-value: 0.038, Relative Influence (PR): 3.473, Interval Confidence (CI): 1.074 – 11.226 and p-value: 0.039, Relative influence (PR) 3.943 and Confidence Interval (CI): 1.075 – 14.468. For the variables Gender, Occupation, Side Effects of Drugs, Role of Health Workers, and Role of Drug Swallowing Supervisor, there is no significant relationship between these variables and adherence to taking anti-TB drugs in the intensive phase. Conclusion: Based on the research findings, the conclusion that can be drawn is that low education, a supportive attitude, and older age can be significant risk factors for non-adherence to taking intensive phase anti-TB drugs in pulmonary TB patients in the Aikmel Health Center area. The variables gender, occupation, drug side effects, health worker role, and therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) role did not have a significant relationship. Therefore, intervention strategies and public health approaches can be focused on these risk groups to increase the level of compliance in taking intensive phase anti-TB drugs.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a chronic nutritional issue in children that remains a primary focus for the government to prevent and reduce its prevalence. Various efforts have been made in collaboration with various parties to improve the nutritional status of children aged 0-2 years, pregnant women, and before pregnancy (adolescent girls). The proper food composition for teenagers should adhere to the 'Fill my plate' principle with a composition of 1/3 staple food, 1/3 vegetables, 1/6 fruit, and the remaining 1/6 containing animal and vegetable protein. Good knowledge about balanced nutrition consumption in adolescent girls is essential to support the prevention of stunting in children in the future.Purpose: To identify the relationship between knowledge about stunting prevention and the consumption of balanced nutritious food in adolescent girls.Method: This research is an observational analytical quantitative study with a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study consisted of 95 female first-semester students at the Faculty of Nursing, Muhammadiyah University, Jakarta. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling with criteria being young female respondents aged 16-20 without chronic illnesses. The number of samples was 86. Data analysis used the chi-square statistical test to determine the relationship between knowledge about stunting prevention and the consumption of balanced nutritious food in young women. Results: The average age of respondents was 18 years, the average score for knowledge about stunting prevention was 26.6, the majority of teenagers had a very good knowledge category, with 65 people (75.5%), and the majority of teenagers consumed balanced nutrition, 48 people (55.8%). The results of the statistical test obtained a p-value of 0.26 (>0.05), which means there is no relationship between teenagers' knowledge about stunting and the consumption of balanced nutrition. Conclusion: It is hoped that healthcare professionals, especially nurses, can be involved and provide education and other interventions in preventing stunting by supporting young women to consume balanced nutrition.
