Abstract

Although numerous studies have been conducted on voltage and current imbalance in electrical systems, research specifically focusing on these conditions in fishing vessels, particularly those operating in the Natuna Sea, remains very limited. This study aims to analyze the voltage and current imbalance on the generators of purse seine fishing vessels operating in the Natuna Sea, based on the IEEE Std 45-2002 and BKI Volume IV Year 2022 standards. A quantitative approach was employed, involving direct measurements of voltage (both line-to-line and phase-to-neutral) and current at the main distribution panels of five fishing vessels. The reference standard for Line Voltage Unbalance Tolerance (%LVUT) according to IEEE Std 45-2002 is ≤ 3%, while the acceptable limit for current imbalance according to BKI Volume IV Year 2022 is ≤ 15%. The results showed that the average voltage imbalance across the five vessels was below the IEEE tolerance limit (≤ 3%), with the highest recorded value being 4.34% on KM. Palembang Indah II. Meanwhile, current imbalance generally complied with the BKI limit (≤ 15%), except for KM. Rezeki Bersama, which exhibited the highest current imbalance at 30.48%. These findings highlight the need for mitigation measures, such as load redistribution and phase balancing, particularly on vessels with significant imbalance levels. This study provides practical contributions to improving the reliability of vessel electrical systems and enhancing operational safety within Indonesia’s marine fisheries sector.

Abstract

Red snapper (Lutjanus sp.) is one of the most popular fish species because of its delicious taste with thick and dense meat and high nutritional content such as protein, omega 3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals known to be very productive for heart health, brain, bones, and endurance. Red snapper (Lutjanus sp.) as a fishery product is perishable and requires good handling to maintain the quality standards of the fish. Fish quality is an important requirement in the export process based on predetermined standards to prevent biological, chemical, and physical hazards. One of the fish quality testing processes carried out is microbiological testing by looking at the Total Plate Number (ALT) of bacteria. The calculation is carried out based on the SNI 2332:2015 (How to tet microbiology-part 3: Determination of total plate count). Testing was carried out in the laboratory of the Fish Quarantine Centre, Quality Control and Safety of Fishery Products (BKIPM) in Tarakan City. The results showed that the tested red snapper samples contained 3,3 x 103 colonies/g and were still below the maximum limit of 5x105 colonies/g. Red snapper (Lutjanus sp.) in Tarakan City is considered safe and suitable for export in accordance with SNI fresh fish quality requirements in SNI 2729: 2021 and SNI 7388:2009 on the maximum limit of microbial contamination in food.

Abstract

Although many studies have been conducted on the effectiveness of a generator or machine using the OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) method, research focusing on the effectiveness of electrical generators on fishing vessels has been limited. This study aims not only to measure the effectiveness of the KM. Binama 03 generator but also to provide data-driven recommendations to enhance equipment reliability in the future. The study's results showed that the average values of Availability, Performance Efficiency, Rate of Quality, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness for the KM. Binama 03 generator in February, March, and July were 97.76%, 81.36%, 79.50%, and 63.49%, respectively. These figures indicate that the OEE values of the KM. Binama 03 generator during operations in these months were still below the JIPM (Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance) minimum standard of 85%. The findings of this research are expected to provide valuable insights for maximizing the effectiveness of equipment or machinery, as the primary goal of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is to ensure that machines remain in optimal condition without disrupting daily activities. This can only be achieved through preventive and predictive maintenance of the equipment.

Abstract

Fish is a commodity that easily and quickly decomposes (high perishable food), therefore, since being caught from the sea, it requires fast, clean, careful and cool handling so that when it is distributed or marketed to fish consumers in fresh condition and maintained quality. The large number of pelagic fish and demersal fish exported to foreign countries requires that the exported fish be tested for its content, especially for microbial contamination, one of which is Escherichia coli contamination. The purpose of this study was to identify Escherichia coli bacteria in Pelagic and Demersal fish using culture and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) methods. Identification of E. coli bacteria used two methods, namely the culture method and PCR using the lacZ gene primer. The results showed that the use of culture and PCR testing methods in identifying E. coli bacteria in demersal and pelagic fish showed the same results, namely 7 (47%) positive samples containing E. coli contamination with the same sample code and exceeding the limit for bacterial E contamination. coli according to SNI 2729:2013 regarding fresh fish, namely <3 APM/g.

Abstract

Catch handling is a series of activities or treatments for fish without changing the basic structure and shape of the fish itself. Currently, the best handling is the application of a cold chain, which is to keep the fish cold (low temperature). The principle of proper handling of catches, namely, (3C+1Q) consists of cold, clean, careful, and quick. This study aimed to identify the catch of KM Sari Usaha 09 and to identify the organoleptic results of the catch on KM Sari Usaha 09 while on board and on land. The study was conducted from January to May 2023. Data collection methods were observation, documentation, and interviews. Data analysis was descriptive, and organoleptic tests were conducted on the main and by-catch fish. The handling of the catch on KM Sari Usaha 09 has an Organoleptic Test value when on board with a value of 9 for eyes (very fresh), 8.9 for gills (very fresh), 8.7 for meat (very fresh) and 8.8 for texture (very fresh), while the results on land are 6.6 for eyes (fresh), 6.8 for gills (fresh), 6.7 for meat (fresh) and 6.9 for texture (fresh).

Abstract

The vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) is one of the most popular shrimp species, widely cultivated throughout Indonesia. This species has several advantages, including rapid growth, the ability to be cultivated at high densities in intensive systems, and resilience to environmental changes. The presence of plankton and the quality of water in the cultivation medium significantly affect the growth and survival of vannamei shrimp. This study aims to evaluate plankton abundance and the dynamics of water quality in intensive vannamei shrimp farming. The research was conducted at two intensive vannamei shrimp farms in East Java with shrimp aged between 1 and 60 days. Water quality measurements were taken directly from the cultivation ponds (salinity, pH, and dissolved oxygen) and in the laboratory (ammonia, nitrite, phosphate, alkalinity, and total organic content). The average abundance of plankton in the intensive vannamei shrimp farming medium ranged from 190 x 10³ to 960 x 10³ individuals/mL, consisting of four groups: green algae, diatoms, dinoflagellates, and blue-green algae. Green algae were the most abundant group, making up 69.9% to 71.9%, while diatoms were the least abundant at 1.9% to 3.0%. In intensive vannamei shrimp farming, the salinity of the cultivation medium ranged from 16 to 35 ppt, pH from 7.5 to 9.0, dissolved oxygen from 3.2 to 5.7 mg/L, and temperature from 28.0 to 31.3°C. The water chemistry parameters measured were ammonia, nitrite, phosphate, alkalinity, and total organic content, with respective ranges of 0.001–0.030 mg/L, 0.05–1.00 mg/L, 0.25–3.00 mg/L, 104–232 mg/L, and 27–131 mg/L. The dynamics of water quality remained within the optimal range for vannamei shrimp farming, as outlined in Regulation KP Number 75 of 2016 regarding general guidelines for the rearing of tiger shrimp and vannamei shrimp.

Abstract

Carrier vessels play a crucial role in the capture fisheries industry, particularly as transportation modes responsible for delivering harvested products from fishing grounds to the shore or port. This strategic function requires the implementation of clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure that handling practices comply with regulations and meet quality standards. Therefore, assessing the application of SOPs on squid carrier vessels is essential to determine the extent to which existing procedures align with proper handling standards and regulatory requirements. The objective of this study is to evaluate the conformity of SOP implementation on squid carrier vessels with applicable regulations, identify weaknesses or inconsistencies in operational practices, and provide recommendations for improvements that may enhance product quality, operational efficiency, and the sustainability of fisheries enterprises. This research was conducted from March to May 2025, using KM Perintis Jaya 89 as the research object, a squid carrier vessel owned by Perintis Jaya International operating in Benoa, Bali. Data collection was carried out through direct observation during the vessel’s operational trips, including documentation of the number of trips, travel duration, cargo volume, and fuel consumption. The main focus of the assessment was the handling of squid, encompassing loading, storage, and unloading activities carried out by the carrier vessel. The findings indicate that KM Perintis Jaya 89 has implemented SOPs in accordance with policy directives. Proper and consistent SOP implementation supports effective and efficient vessel operations, thereby ensuring the maintained quality of squid products destined for market distribution.

Abstract

Body scrub is a cosmetic product that can remove dead skin cells, brighten the skin, and exfoliate dead skin cells in the stratum corneum. Body scrubs can be made from several types of plants, one of which is mangrove fruit. The purpose of this research is to create a body scrub that can moisturize the skin and contain high levels of antioxidants. This study was conducted on 4 treatments with the addition of mangrove (Rhizophora sp), namely F0 (Control), F1 (10% mangrove), F2 (15% mangrove) and F3 (20% mangrove). From the hedonic test conducted on 30 woman panelists aged 17-25 years, it was found that the sample that obtained the highest score was F1. Based on the results of the homogeneity test, it is known that all treatments in this study showed that the body scrub produced from this study was homogeneous. The results of the pH test showed that all body scrub preparations met the skin pH criteria, 4.5-7. Skin moisture after being smeared  for 5 days with body scrub increased every days. The results of the irritation test for each test sample showed negative results, The results of the antioxidant test (IC50) in F0 (Control) were 86664.78 mg/kg, in F1 (Addition of 10% mangrove) the IC50 value was 696.41 mg/kg, this shows that the addition of mangrove (Rhizophora sp) has a significant effect on the antioxidant activity of the body scrub preparation. This research proves that Rhizophora sp mangrove can be used as a body scrub preparation.

Abstract

Vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) is a high-value aquaculture commodity. However, during the post-larval rearing phase, fluctuations in water quality and high abundance of Vibrio can cause stress and larval mortality. Therefore, evaluation of rearing practices and water quality is important to support successful juvenile shrimp production. This study aims to evaluate water quality, health, and growth of vannamei shrimp juveniles during the post-larval rearing period. Rearing was conducted from PL4–5 to PL10–11 using three tanks measuring 6 x 4 x 2 meters (water volume 40 tons), each labeled A6, B4, and B11. The fry quality results showed that all tanks achieved grade A, with optimal stadia development and gut muscle ratio. Observations on juvenile shrimp health revealed no necrosis, low Vibrio infection, and high stress resistance. Observations on post-larval growth showed an average length of 7.76–9.27 mm and an average survival rate of 88%, exceeding the minimum standard of SNI 7311:2009. Therefore, effective water quality management and control of Vibrio abundance during the rearing period of shrimp post-larvae can significantly improve the survival rate and quality of vannamei shrimp post-larvae.
