Abstract

This study seeks to examine the impact of the merger of three Islamic banks (BSM, BNIS, and BRIS) on the Islamic banking market in Indonesia by applying the Structure-Conduct-Performance (SCP) model. The SCP framework, widely used in economic analysis, evaluates industries based on three key dimensions: Structure, Conduct, and Performance. This research employs a quantitative approach, utilizing secondary data sourced from the annual reports and financial statements of Indonesian Islamic banks between 2017 and 2022, alongside the Islamic Financial Development Reports published by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) during the same period. The findings reveal that the merger has no discernible effect on the market structure within the Islamic banking sector in Indonesia. Additionally, the merger does not influence market conduct or consumer behavior within the industry. However, the performance of the merged banks shows a significant positive impact on the overall performance of the Islamic banking industry in Indonesia.

Abstract

Marriage holds a sacred significance in Minangkabau culture, representing the pinnacle of the life cycle, where customs transcend mere entertainment to embody profound philosophical and cultural values. Despite the substantial opportunities for party service businesses in West Sumatra, the performance of firms in this sector often falls short of expectations. Observations reveal recurring issues, including vendor delays and dissatisfaction with service quality in areas such as decoration, photography, videography, and catering. These problems are primarily attributed to inadequate resource management and poor strategic decision-making. This study employs explanatory research with a quantitative approach, utilizing hypothesis testing to examine the relationships among market orientation, firm resources, innovation, and firm performance. The validity and reliability of the questionnaire instrument were confirmed to ensure accurate data analysis. The findings demonstrate that, within the context of party service businesses in West Sumatra, both market orientation and firm resources significantly impact innovation and firm performance directly; however, innovation does not serve as an effective mediator in this relationship.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic that began in 2019 has had a significant impact on the banking sector in Indonesia, both conventional (BUK) and sharia (BUS). This study aims to compare the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the financial structure and performance of the two types of banks over three periods: before the pandemic (2017-2019), during the pandemic (2020-2021), and when the pandemic began to decline (January-June 2022). The research method used is quantitative type with secondary data sources from the financial statements of BUK and BUS. The variables analysed include capital adequacy ratio (CAR), non-performing loan ratio (NPL/NPF), loan-to-deposit ratio (LDR/FDR), profitability (ROA and NIM/NI), operational efficiency (BOPO), and third-party fund (DPK) growth. The results showed that the COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on the decline in the financial performance of BUK, especially on profitability and operational efficiency ratios. In contrast, BUS showed a higher level of resilience by maintaining stability in several financial indicators of liquidity and operational efficiency. The research concludes that differences in operational systems between BUK and BUS resulted in different responses to the crisis, with BUS being better able to manage risk and financial stability during the pandemic.

Abstract

The beauty industry in Indonesia is experiencing rapid growth, driven by increasing self-care awareness, social media influence, and product innovation. Facial serums are among the most popular products, with sales growth of 36.4% in August-September 2023. Skintific, a local brand offering facial serums, faces stiff competition from Wardah, which continues to lead the market as of June 2023. Additionally, consumer interest in synthetic products has declined, influenced by factors such as price perception, brand image, celebrity endorsers, and online promotions. In the digital era, electronic word of mouth (e-WOM) has become critical in shaping purchasing interest, as online product reviews, testimonials, and discussions significantly impact consumer perceptions. This study examines the role of e-WOM as a mediator in the relationship between digital marketing elements and consumer buying interest. A quantitative approach with descriptive verification was employed, using primary data collected from 397 female students at Depok Higher Education through a convenience sampling technique. Data analysis was conducted using the Structural Equation Model (SEM) with Lisrel software. The findings show that price perception, brand image, celebrity endorsers, and online promotions directly and positively influence both e-WOM and buying interest. Moreover, e-WOM significantly mediates the effect of these marketing factors on purchasing interest. The research introduces an integrative model for enhancing consumer buying interest in Skintific products, with a strong influence level of 90%.

Abstract

Management Control Systems (MCS) are an important part of the operations of public sector organizations. However, the implementation of MSS can have consequences on the well-being of public managers such as job satisfaction and stress. One important dimension of MSS is the clarity of the public manager's role. The role of public managers is a very important part of the organization, because public managers have the task of planning, organizing, directing and controlling organizational activities. These tasks require role clarity, where public managers must provide accurate, complete, clear and relevant information to their users. Therefore, the clarity of the role of public managers is thought to have an effect on the job satisfaction and stress of public managers. This research is important to do considering that SPM is a tool used in achieving organizational goals, and therefore it is also necessary to gain knowledge of its consequences on the welfare of public managers. Empirical evidence on this subject is still very limited, especially in public sector organizations in Indonesia. This study aims to empirically examine the effect of role clarity on job satisfaction and stress of public managers and the mediation of organizational commitment in public sector organizations. The results of this study are useful theoretically and practically. Theoretically, it enriches the SPM literature on the effect of management control in the form of the impact of role clarity on job satisfaction and stress levels of public public managers. Practically, the results of this study can be used as guidelines in the design of SPM that can increase public managers' job satisfaction and stress and organizational commitment.  The research was conducted using a survey method to public managers at the Regional Apparatus Organization (ODP) of Medan City Government.

Abstract

This research investigates the influence of work stress, workload, and work-life balance on employee performance at PT. Trimitra Jaya Investama. Utilizing a quantitative descriptive approach, data were collected via questionnaires from 99 employees, and the analysis was conducted using Partial Least Square (PLS) methodology. The findings reveal that workload has a significant positive effect on employee performance, supporting existing theories that correlate manageable tasks with improved output. In contrast, work stress was found to have no significant impact on performance, either directly or indirectly through work-life balance. This suggests that employees may perceive certain levels of stress as normal, particularly among Generation Z workers, which may enhance their performance by motivating them to tackle challenges. Furthermore, work-life balance emerged as a crucial factor positively influencing performance. The study highlights the need for organizations to foster a supportive work environment that prioritizes workload management and work-life balance to optimize employee effectiveness.

Using a quantitative approach and data collected through structured surveys, the research examines the relationships among these variables. The findings reveal that both competence and training significantly influence employee performance, with job satisfaction playing a critical role in mediating these effects. The results indicate that as employees' competencies and training opportunities increase, so does their job satisfaction, which in turn enhances their overall performance. This research underscores the importance of implementing effective training programs and fostering employee competence to improve performance outcomes in higher education settings. The implications of these findings suggest that universities should prioritize employee development initiatives to achieve organizational goals and enhance the quality of education.
