Abstract

The area of tobacco land in West Sumatra Province, especially in Limapuluh Kota Regency, experienced a quite drastic decline, reaching 66.6% in the period 2022 and 2023. One of the causes declining land is related to prices and income. Low prices and income can be caused by different marketing methods between farmers. Therefore, the research aims to measure income and costs of tobacco processing based on marketing methods. The data analysis method in this research uses descriptive analysis and the Independent T Test. Descriptive analysis aims to describe the costs of processing chopped tobacco, obstacles and factors that influence farmers to sell chopped and spread tobacco. Meanwhile, the t test was carried out to see whether there was a difference in income between farmers who sold chopped and spread. The research results show that farmers' obstacles in processing chopped tobacco are dependence on sunlight, long processing time, and high processing costs. Meanwhile, the factors that influence farmers to sell expanse tobacco are that it is easy and practical, easy to sell, and requires money immediately. In terms of income, there is a significant difference between farmers who sell chopped and farmers who sell overlay. There is a difference in income of IDR 10,132,630/ha/planting season or 37%.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the distribution of bananas in the Nagari Mandiri Pangan Program in Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra. Nagari Mandiri Pangan is a program implemented by the West Sumatra government. This program is an adaptation of the Desa Mandiri Pangan launched by the Food Security Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture (BKP) at the national level. The West Sumatra Government is trying to explore the needs of the farmers themselves. In this case, farmers who are in the group ask to be given banana seed assistance, which is a commodity that has the potential to be developed. This research was carried out on five farmer groups in Padang Pariaman Regency. The method used is an interview using a questionnaire, which is then analyzed using descriptive statistics. The existing results are compared with the technical guidelines and implementation guidelines that have been prepared. From the results, it was found that the distribution of banana seeds was carried out during the current year, and the requests from farmer groups could be accommodated through this program. Banana plants were chosen because this commodity has suitable growing conditions at the research site. Farmers are obliged to provide land that is used from existing vacant land and land that was previously unused. In addition, farmers are obliged to maintain bananas that have been given properly and provide periodic reporting. To ensure that farmers carry out their obligations, the agency evaluates by visiting and providing assistance with good banana cultivation methods in collaboration with local extension workers.

Abstract

Farmer involvement refers to the active participation of individual farmers or farmer collectives in decision-making processes with awareness and intention. This study examines the extent of farmer engagement in sustainable agricultural practices. Descriptive statistics were used to profile respondents, while the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) approach was applied to assess the effect of participation in farmer groups on sustainable agriculture. Sixty rice farmers were selected as respondents using the Slovin formula. The research was conducted in the Secanggang District, Langkat Regency, a key rice-producing area deliberately chosen as the study site. Primary data were collected through a structured questionnaire. The analysis revealed that among the three dimensions of sustainability, social, economic, and environmental, only the financial and ecological aspects showed statistically significant effects, with coefficients of 0.398 and 0.502, respectively. Farmer participation in evaluation and implementation processes contributed positively to advancing sustainable agricultural practices. Strengthening farmer groups should be prioritized by government agencies and academic institutions, with efforts directed toward enhancing human resource capacity in areas such as institutional management, market network expansion, partnership development, capital strengthening, and information technology training.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze consumer perceptions and preferences regarding a novel all-purpose seasoning based on Modified Cassava Flour (MOCAF) and to formulate an effective market entry strategy. A descriptive quantitative research design was employed, combining sensory evaluations and structured consumer surveys. Sensory evaluation involved 35 panelists who compared the MOCAF-based seasoning with two commercial brands, assessing attributes including taste, aroma, texture, and overall appearance. Results from the consumer survey indicated positive perceptions of the MOCAF-based seasoning, with respondents rating it favorably in terms of taste (74%), aroma (75%), and overall appeal (70%). However, price sensitivity emerged as a significant concern, with approximately 23% of respondents highlighting affordability as an issue. Demographic factors, especially education level and occupation, significantly influenced consumer perceptions. Housewives, in particular, showed greater awareness and familiarity with the product. Based on these findings, an integrated market entry strategy was developed, emphasizing market segmentation, targeting health-conscious households, particularly mothers and homemakers, and positioning the product as a healthier, gluten-free alternative to conventional seasonings. The study further recommends the implementation of educational campaigns, partnerships with influencers, and product sampling programs to enhance product awareness and build consumer trust. This research contributes to the existing body of literature on functional foods, particularly regarding sustainable local food innovations in emerging markets. The results provide practical insights for producers aiming to introduce MOCAF-based products to broader markets.

Abstract

Turmeric is a high-value bio-pharmaceutical commodity with strong production potential, diverse uses, and strategic importance as a spice export. The United States and the United Kingdom are among the largest global importers of turmeric and key target markets for Indonesia. However, Indonesia’s export share to these countries has fluctuated due to various economic factors. Meanwhile, India—despite being the world’s largest producer and exporter of turmeric—faces challenges in sustaining its export growth in these major markets. This study analyzes the factors affecting turmeric exports from Indonesia and India to the U.S. and U.K. using a panel data regression model. The findings reveal that Indonesia’s exports are significantly and elastically influenced by the average real GDP of destination countries and interest rates, with elasticity values greater than one. In contrast, the elasticity for domestic production is near one, indicating a proportional response. India shows lower elasticities for all variables, each below one. Furthermore, production is not a significant factor for either country, suggesting that increasing output alone is insufficient without downstream processing and improved market access. These results indicate that Indonesia’s turmeric exports are more responsive to external economic changes, reflecting stronger adaptability in global trade.

Abstract

Flooding is a major natural disaster that substantially risks agricultural productivity, particularly rice cultivation. In Padang city, the severity of flood impacts has increased due to climate change. This study identifies and analyzes flood risk management strategies in paddy farming areas. The research used a descriptive approach supported by quantitative secondary data from government reports, insurance claim records, and climate-related publications. Data analysis involves risk mapping and descriptive statistics to assess patterns of flood impact and response strategies. The results indicate that effective flood risk management involves using flood-resistant rice varieties, constructing and maintaining irrigation and drainage systems, and participating in the Paddy Farming Insurance (AUTP). Risk Mapping shows that floods have the lowest impact compared to other floods or disasters. In Padang City, floods have not impacted 75% of AUTP insurance claims. Strategies that farmers and stakeholders can implement are preventive and mitigations. Preventive strategies include improving drainage systems and using flood-resistant crops, while mitigation involves early warning systems, weather forecasting, crop insurance, and post-flood management. However, barriers like insufficient funding, limited farmer awareness of technology, and poor infrastructure hinder adoption. Government support primarily benefit smallholder farmers-those most vulnerable to climate-related risk by offering technical assistance, financial subsidies, and encouraging AUTP participation. By implementing these strategies, agricultural resilience can be strengthened, contributing to national food security.

Abstract

This study examines the sales forecast for PT XYZ’s sterilized milk products, recognizing the critical importance of accurate forecasting in the dynamic and competitive fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector. Reliable forecasts are essential for distributors to optimize demand planning and inventory control. The Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) model was applied to historical monthly sales data from 16 distributors in the Jakarta market covering the 2022–2024 period. The ARIMA procedure included data collection and visualization, stationarity testing (ADF, ACF, PACF), differencing, model identification, parameter estimation, and optimal model selection. The results reveal monthly sales fluctuations with a clear downward trend toward the end of the observation period, with the ARIMA (1,0,1) model emerging as the best fit. Forecasts for 2025 indicate a continued decline in sales value, underscoring the need for stronger collaboration between PT XYZ and its distributors in promotional planning and inventory management to adapt to market shifts and capitalize on emerging opportunities.
