Abstract

This study aims to analyze mathematical problem-solving abilities on the topic of Systems of Linear Equations in Two Variables (SPLDV) from the perspective of learning styles among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Aikmel in the 2024/2025 academic year. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach. The subjects of the study consist of 6 students, selected using purposive sampling, comprising 2 students each with auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learning styles. Data collection instruments used in this study include learning style questionnaires, mathematical problem-solving tests, and interviews. Data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis. The results of the study indicate that: 1) students with a visual learning style tend to solve problems presented in graphical form more quickly because they find it easier to understand concepts and ideas clearly when the problems are presented visually rather than in text; 2) students with an auditory learning style tend to experience difficulties and require more time to solve problems in graphical form because they are more accustomed to understanding information through listening rather than through visual representation; 3) students with kinesthetic and visual learning styles tend to have difficulty writing conclusions, as kinesthetic learners are more focused on the process of solving problems rather than formulating conclusions from the solutions obtained; 4) students with visual and auditory learning style are able to complete all four stages of Polya’s priblem-solving process, whereas students with kinestheticc learning style can only complete three out of four stages: understanding the problem, devising a plan, and carrying out the plan. Abstract

This study is a systematic literature review (SLR) study that explores the application and effectiveness of differentiated learning models in mathematics learning. Differentiated learning involves tailoring content, processes, products, and learning environments to meet students' individual needs, with the goal of improving students' concept understanding, problem-solving skills, creativity, motivation, and engagement. This study identifies various differentiation approaches used in mathematics learning, such as subject-based learning, the use of educational technology, and flexibility in evaluation. The results show that differentiated learning is effective in improving learning outcomes, but its implementation is faced with challenges such as time constraints, teacher workload, variations in student abilities, and lack of training. The proposed solutions include increasing teacher training, more flexible time allocation, and developing varied and inclusive resources. The review also provides practical steps for the application of differentiated learning in mathematics classrooms, and recommends further research that integrates differentiated learning with open-ended problem-solving to improve mathematical creative thinking.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the types of errors students make when solving problems using Newman's procedure. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, involving 14 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observations, written tests, and documentation, then analyzed using Newman's error analysis framework. The data analysis techniques include data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that reading errors were the least common (14.28%), while process skills errors occurred most frequently (42.85%). Other types of errors included comprehension errors (21.42%), transformation errors (28.57%), and encoding errors (35.71%). These results suggest that many students struggle with processing information and systematically applying problem-solving skills. Therefore, instructional strategies should focus on strengthening conceptual understanding and providing more practice in translating problems into mathematical representations.
