Abstract

The lack of awareness and knowledge among the Banjar community regarding government participation and transparency led to the implementation of the community service activity at the Local Democratic School. The purpose of this community service is to provide education to the community about democracy and governance. The community service method, using the participatory action research approach, began with an initial survey, focus group discussions, and training targeting KPU partners, attended by 25 participants serving as the Election Committee in each village or neighborhood across Banjar City. Through a series of concrete and collaborative steps, it is expected to establish a stronger foundation for inclusive and sustainable democracy at the local level, enhancing community involvement and contribution to positive changes in social structures and public policies. The duration of this PkM activity is seven months, from March to September 2023. The outcomes of the activity received positive feedback from the community, with a 91% response rate from participants indicating an understanding of various topics covered, including local content, governance, civil society, gender and democracy, welfare state, Pancasila democracy, sociopreneurship, law and human rights, and citizen participation in government. The implication is that this program can enhance community understanding and involvement in creating positive changes in social structures and public policies at the local level.

Abstract

Natural selection is one of the topics of evolution material that is considered difficult for students, so it is necessary to have a practicum to help in understanding this material. Limited laboratory equipment in schools is an obstacle to learning evolution, so learning media are needed to support evolution learning. One of the learning media that can be applied is PhET simulation. PhET simulation supports evolution learning because it provides simulations in the form of processes of how living things experience natural selection mechanisms. This service program aims to describe students' cognitive understanding of the topic of natural selection with the help of the PhET simulation application. This activity is expected to be used as reference material for teachers who conduct practicums with the help of the PhET simulation application. The subjects who participated in this service activity were 30 students in class XII MIPA. The service activities were carried out on June 16–23, 2023, at SMAN 4 Tuban. The service activities carried out include training, discussion, and guidance. Based on the results of the program, it can be seen that the trainees were very enthusiastic about participating in the PhET simulation activities, the use of PhET simulation was easy to apply, and the trainees were easier to understand the material with the help of this application (87% of the time).

Abstract

The Mendeley application is a supporting tool for writers creating manuscripts for publication. Teachers need publications to improve their career path, especially achieving credit scores for promotion to functional positions. This program aims to train teachers in using the Mendeley application to make it easier to create publication manuscripts. Training activities were carried out by presenting ten teachers from PGRI Palu City, Central Sulawesi and two trainers. At the first meeting on July 23 2022, the teachers' ability to use this application was identified, and it was found that almost all teachers needed to be proficient in using it. Training is then carried out using presentation, demonstration, practice and question-and-answer methods. Next, three trainers guided the participants to recognize and apply their obtained information. At the second meeting on July 26 2022, participants completed citations on the manuscript created using the Mendeley application. Assistance is provided by the service team in language that is easily understood by the participants and immediately produces output in the form of a script. This training activity was carried out over two meetings, and the results of the final evaluation showed that the participants who were initially unable to use the Mendeley application (pretest) were then able to use the Mendeley Program well (posttest). It is hoped that the implications of this activity will help participants prepare research results manuscripts to help collect credit.
