Abstract

People who lack political literacy and are not wise when using communication media are often trapped by the flow of wrong information. So, literacy or education about journalism must be carried out from the early generations. Those who are still students need to prepare themselves from the start to be able to understand the quality of the various information they receive, including political information. This community service aims to provide understanding and increase journalistic literacy for Muhammadiyah students who are members of the Leuwiliang Muhammadiyah Student Association organization in Bogor Regency, West Java. Community Service Method using approach Participatory Action Research (PAR) carried out in the form of socialization and assistance to Muhammadiyah Leuwiliang students carried out in several stages, including mapping the conditions of problems faced by partners, preparing training program steps, preparing the division of tasks for each service team, and then carrying out training in the form of providing journalistic material and various types of hoax information, which is usually spread through various social media platforms. The results of community service conclude that students need a variety of information or a collection of data or facts that can be managed into something useful for the recipient. Muhammadiyah students need information that supports various processes such as education, political participation, and Muhammadiyah's missionary needs.

Abstract

Website training is becoming increasingly important for students in today's digital era. This is due to the growing use of the internet as a source of information and communication. Website training can help students develop the information technology skills needed in various aspects of life, including education and careers. Additionally, website training can help students broaden their horizons and enhance their creativity in creating digital content. Thus, students will be better prepared to face future challenges that increasingly rely on information technology. The training method provided to students in this community service project uses service learning. The website training is structured in schools or through community service programs involving 32 vocational high school students in Malang City. The HSS Learning Coding Platform Training was conducted as a gamification-based learning medium through this community service activity. Both platforms, namely W3Schools and the Gamification Application, have proven effective based on tests given to improve students' understanding of HTML. This is evidenced by the increase in median scores from the pre-test to the post-test. Website training helps students develop essential digital skills and positively contributes to their future careers and lives.

Abstract

The 2024 general elections in Indonesia encounter the issue of a significant number of novice voters as the main consumers of social media, making them susceptible to hoaxes. On that basis, approaches are needed to reduce the possibility of exposure to hoaxes through prebunking. Training in Prebunking Classes and Prebunking Campaigns was held to form antibodies among novice voters to increase resistance to exposure to misinformation, disinformation, and misinformation circulating ahead of the 2024 Election. This training, in collaboration with the anti-hoax organization Mafindo Banjarmasin, took place concurrently on Thursday, October 05, 2023, with 320 participants. The training sessions utilitized the PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal) approach and were segmented into three stages, which were: (1) the initial stage involved coordinating activities between the campus and Mafindo Banjarmasin regarding the implementation of activities; (2) the implementation stage, Prebunking Class activities were divided into four sessions with topics such as mapping disinformation and misinformation narratives, analyzing the anatomy of information manipulation, pre bunking theory and strategies, and producing pre bunking content. Meanwhile, the Prebunking Campaign activities were carried out by playing the Ular Tangga boardgame, which contained quizzes and tips on anticipating hoaxes; and (3) the last stage evaluated the effectiveness of the training through pretest and post-test examinations, along with feedback from participants. The outcome of the activity involved increased empowerment among novice voters in recognizing different election hoaxes and acquiring a better understanding of manipulative information tactics. Armed with this knowledge, the training instils stronger resistance strategies against exposure to election hoaxes in novice voters.

Abstract

History learning requires teachers to contextualize the material by utilizing the environment where students live as interrelated learning material. For example, with its historical journey, integrating the potential of natural wealth in Pontianak, such as the Kapuas River, can be used for educational purposes. Community service activities aim to introduce past cultural heritage, most of which is located around the banks of the Kapuas River. There were 32 participants in this activity, consisting of teachers and students. Through this activity, it is hoped that teachers will have an overview of cultural heritage, which can be used as a historical learning resource to contextualize or link to learning material. The method used is Participatory Action Research (PAR), which involves providing materials and visits to cultural heritage sites to provide participants with an overview of the history of Pontianak and its cultural heritage. Among others are the Pontianak Sultanate area, namely the Kadriyah Palace and the Jami Mosque. Visitors can build communication and get material directly from resource persons on duty at the location. The activity results showed that after visiting one of the locations, participants felt emotional closeness and actively explored independently, building discussions with resource persons to enrich their knowledge. Participants also felt satisfied with the information provided by the resource person, thereby increasing their knowledge and insight about the cultural heritage on the banks of the Kapuas River, Pontianak. As evaluation material, this activity can be held again with a different theme and include more literature related to the sites visited.

Abstract

STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) is a learning approach that encourages students to think broadly about real-world problems. However, the limited knowledge of chemistry teachers about the STEAM-based learning and assessment process causes this approach to be rarely implemented. This service aims to train teachers' skills to develop STEAM-based assessment instruments. The workshop method is used with implementation stages including preparation, implementation, evaluation, and reporting. This activity was carried out in a hybrid manner, with presentations by lecturers from Universiti Sains Malaysia and Sebelas Maret University. Participants in this activity were 68 chemistry teachers from various regions of Indonesia. Test instruments totaling 15 questions in the pretest and posttest, as well as questionnaire instruments totaling 18 questions, were used to evaluate the results of this training. As a result, participants' knowledge and skills about STEAM learning increased after the training. In addition, as many as 44% of participants are very interested in implementing STEAM in the chemistry learning process in schools. As evaluation materials, participants gave suggestions to increase the explanation time and provide more examples of STEAM-based instruments.

Abstract

Mojoroto, as the most populated sub-district in Kediri, has a waste generation rate of 0.66 kg/person/day. This sub-district owns 26 waste bank units across 14 urban villages and actively buys and sells waste. The purpose of community service is to innovate in managing waste recycling in Kediri City by utilizing a digital waste recycling application called Apps4SWAM. Changing to a digital system is expected to simplify the waste recycling process and increase system transparency. The actors involved in this activity are customers and waste bank managers. Six active waste banks in the Mojoroto Sub-district participated in this community service activity. The Apps4SWAM application was developed based on input from all stakeholders who use the application. This application was socialized to the community, especially waste bank customers. A survey was also conducted to determine the community's willingness to manage waste and use this application. Two hundred respondents, consisting of waste bank customers and non-waste bank customers, were surveyed about their waste management behaviour and responses to the waste bank application. The results of this activity show that 80% of waste bank managers use this application to facilitate transactions in the waste bank. Customers also stated that the application system makes recording waste easier and faster, making the financial system more transparent. The increase in waste sales after using the app averaged 153%, and the total number of waste bank customers using the app reached 250. However, obstacles are still faced, ensuring all stakeholders involved in recycling in Kediri can fully switch to using the app for waste recycling activities. The government's readiness to continue this program also needs to be considered, while support from other stakeholders such as collectors and industries is also key. This app can potentially form a waste management network, especially in terms of recycling, in Kediri City.

Abstract

Puberty is a normal developmental process in which a child develops into a biologically and/or sexually mature adult. Even though puberty is a natural event, it is not uncommon for children to be confused or worried about puberty. Therefore, using the Participatory Action Research Method, this community service aims to increase knowledge about puberty in boys in the Sambikerep sub-district, Surabaya. The activities include health promotion, education, and free circumcision for the children by surgeons and medical students from the School of Medicine, Universitas Ciputra Surabaya. Statistical analysis of knowledge before and after health promotion used the Wilcoxon test in SPSS version 26 with a significance limit of p < 0.05. The overall community service activities ran quite smoothly; there were 24 children who took part, with the number of children getting a pre-test score < 75 points as high as 29.2%. However, no children got a post-test score of < 75 points after the health promotion. The median score of knowledge about puberty before and after health promotion was 75 (12.5–100) and 100 (87.5–100) points, respectively (p-value <0.001). Through this community service, health promotion and education about puberty must be continuously provided to pre-pubertal boys so that they have a good understanding of puberty and make healthy decisions related to their sexual and emotional health.

Abstract

Seventy percent of Indonesia's territory consists of water. Several regions make fish farming a livelihood to optimize this potential. One of them is Ponggok Village, Klaten. Ponggok Village already has superior products made from Nile tilapia fish, but product diversification is needed to expand market segmentation and increase income. By diversifying, products will be more interesting and varied and have a higher selling value. Nile tilapia fish can be converted into frozen food products with yellow spices through village community empowerment program training using the fourth step of the ABCD method, named the Asset Based Community Development method. The first step is to "discover" by finding community groups and identifying the needs, especially the people of Ponggok Village. The second step is to "dream" to create dreams for community groups and overcome the problems in marketing Nile tilapia fish. The third step is "design" that overcome the problem of marketing Nile tilapia fish in Ponggok Village; the P2MD team collaborated with Nile tilapia MSMEs by diversifying Nile tilapia fish products into Bumbu Kuning Frozen Food. The fourth step is "destiny", with the implementation of the collaboration between the P2MD team and the Nile tilapia fish MSMEs of Ponggok Village. At this stage, the P2MD team provides training assistance. Through the ABCD method and the collaboration of the P2MD team with Nile Tilapia fish MSMEs, the result is the diversification of Bumbu Kuning Nile tilapia Frozen Food products, which can last approximately three months, so they can be marketed more widely and increase the income of Ponggok Village Nile tilapia MSMEs. Hopefully, the Bumbu Kuning Nile tilapia Fish Frozen Food Training can increase the activity and economy of the Ponggok Village community.
