Abstract

While gadgets offer numerous benefits, such as ease of communication, information access, and enhanced creativity, their excessive use, especially among children and adolescents, leads to significant negative impacts. These include reduced book literacy, impaired concentration, eye problems, decreased physical activity, and social isolation. A lack of effective family communication exacerbates these issues, causing conflicts and potentially addictive behaviors related to gadgets. Observations at the Indonesian Western Protestant Church (GPIB) Menara Iman Jakarta indicate that children and adolescents within the congregation experience family communication problems due to high screen time. Statistical data further emphasize the urgency of intervention, with Indonesia ranking highest globally in screen time (averaging 5.7 hours/day) and Generation Z spending over 3 hours/day on social media. This Community Engagement (PkM) initiative utilized a psychoeducational approach implemented in two main stages: (1) an initial survey and engagement with church officials and congregants; and (2) the execution of the PkM program. The implementation mechanism involved interactive lectures by expert speakers and discussion and experience-sharing sessions to facilitate understanding and application of the material. The PkM activity engaged 12 adolescents from the GPIB Menara Iman Jakarta congregation, ranging from 10 to 17 years old. Pretests and posttests were conducted to measure participants' understanding. Based on a Wilcoxon signed-rank test analysis, significant results were obtained (W=0.000; p=0.002), indicating a substantial increase in participants' understanding regarding screen time management and assertive communication. This improvement demonstrates the effectiveness of the psychoeducational method in equipping adolescents with essential skills to build more functional and harmonious family communication.

Enhancing visual identity and information media is crucial for elevating the image and competitiveness of an educational institution. Lihai Islamic Preschool, which provides playgroup programs for children aged 2 to 6 years using the Ihsan, Active, and Happy approach, requires effective information media to present its vision, mission, and educational programs to the broader community. This community service initiative aims to conceptualize and develop a web that serves as a platform for information dissemination and communication. The web is crafted to meet professional standards, aesthetic appeal, and improved accessibility. The methods used in this activity include needs analysis, web structure and design, content creation (both visual and textual), and training for Lihai Islamic Preschool managers on web usage and maintenance. The result of this initiative is an interactive web that presents information comprehensively, strengthens the institution's visual identity, and enhances accessibility to information for prospective parents and the public. It is expected that this web will foster greater recognition and trust in Lihai Islamic Preschool as a model educational institution committed to nurturing early childhood character development. Additionally, this web serves as an effective communication medium between the educational institution and the community, facilitating the advancement of technology-based education that is more adaptive and contemporary.

Abstract

The rapid development of information technology demands continuous adaptation in the field of education, including at the Early Childhood Education (PAUD) level. One of the main challenges today is how to utilize engaging, effective learning media that align with the developmental characteristics of young children. At PAUD Dadali, challenges are still found in the use of infographics as learning media, primarily due to teachers’ limited understanding of visual communication design principles and their lack of skills in using graphic design software. This community service activity aims to provide training and assistance to PAUD Dadali teachers in creating infographics as learning media using the Canva application. Canva was chosen because it offers advantages over other graphic design tools, such as an easy-to-use interface and a wide selection of templates relevant to educational needs. These strengths make Canva a practical solution for teachers without a design background. The implementation methods included field interviews to identify partner needs, training planning and execution, and outcome evaluation. The training began with theoretical material on the basic principles of visual communication design, followed by a practical session using Canva. The results of the training show that participants acquired new skills in using Canva to create teaching materials. This is expected to enhance the quality of teaching at PAUD Dadali and support a more interactive and easily understandable learning process for young children.

Abstract

Each year, food waste from households, markets, restaurants, and schools continues to increase. Improper management of this waste can harm the environment and contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. A simple, low-cost, and environmentally friendly solution for managing food waste is to process it into an eco-enzyme. This community engagement program aimed to enhance students’ knowledge and skills in creating eco-enzymes as a practical approach to addressing food waste issues. The activity was conducted at MA Islamiyah Kedungjambe in Tuban and involved 39 students from the XI grade, focusing on both science and social studies tracks. The methods used included interactive socialization and hands-on training in eco-enzyme production, utilizing a mixture of fruit peels, brown sugar, and water in a 3:1:10 ratio, followed by a three-month fermentation process. The resulting eco-enzyme had a fresh, fermented aroma and was free from unpleasant odours. It can be used as a liquid organic fertilizer for plants. The results indicated high enthusiasm among participants, along with a significant increase in their understanding and interest in making eco-enzymes independently at home. This activity effectively fostered environmental awareness among students and is recommended for implementation in other schools as part of sustainable environmental education.

Abstract

This program aims to evaluate the implementation of the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) principle in the INPOWER-CARE program which is a form of CSR of PT PLN Indonesia Power UBP Kamojang, especially in the context of coffee cultivation by the Kelompok Tani Hutan (KTH) Gunung Kamojang. This is due to the fact that there has been no evaluative study on the real impact of the group's coffee cultivation program seen from the TBL principle. The approach used in this research is qualitative with the type of case study, through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and literature study. The results showed that the INPOWER-CARE program in coffee cultivation of KTH Gunung Kamojang succeeded in improving the social welfare of the community, creating new economic opportunities, and supporting environmental sustainability through forest conservation. However, challenges remain in terms of business sustainability management, market access, and the effectiveness of program implementation in the long term. Based on these findings, this study suggests strengthening the strategic planning aspect to ensure a more sustainable impact as well as increasing the capacity of the community to be more self-reliant after the CSR period has ended.

Abstract

The phenomenon of teachers’ limited ability to design assessment instruments based on higher-order thinking skills has become a major challenge at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Malang. Initial surveys and focus group discussions with 20 teachers showed that most still relied on lower-order thinking questions and had not yet utilized diagnostic assessments to support differentiated instruction. This condition contributes to students’ low abilities in critical thinking and contextual problem-solving, despite both being essential competencies in the twenty-first century. To address this issue, the implementation team developed a teacher capacity-building program through integrated training on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) and diagnostic assessment. The three-month program used a participatory approach, involving teachers in needs identification, assessment storyboard development, and visual design for differentiated learning, workshops, and classroom implementation mentoring. Activities included training on HOTS-based item construction, assessment simulations using Cognitive Diagnostic Assessment (CDA), and the application of Differentiated Instruction (DI) with tiered tasks aligned with students’ learning profiles. The program results showed significant improvement in teachers’ ability to design HOTS instruments and diagnostic assessments. Key outputs included a HOTS item bank, diagnostic assessment storyboard templates, and cross-subject differentiated learning designs. The program also fostered the development of a reflective practice–based teacher mentoring model, which was replicated through the school’s Professional Learning Community (PLC) as a platform for sustained collaboration and innovation at the regional level.
