Abstract

Wasting clean water in society worsens the shortage of water and makes it harder to access. To address this, it’s important to promote water-saving habits and boost community involvement in protecting the environment. The clean water crisis has also been felt by the community of the Majelis Taklim Nurul Qolbi. The Majelis Taklim Nurul Qolbi, an association of blind people in Tangerang City, has also faced water shortages, especially during dry seasons and large gatherings. Community Service Activities have been carried out to overcome this problem by using technological and social approaches. The technological approach is to install 4 ablution water flow limiters at the Nurul Qolbi Musala. The social approach is to provide socialization to the community, especially the congregation at the Majelis Taklim Nurul Qolbi to save water, especially for ablution. The result of this community service activity is the application of appropriate technology from water flow limiters resulting from research innovations and social activities that have been carried out previously. This activity has succeeded in saving ablution water by reducing the water flow rate by 74.6%. The water discharge before the installation of the device was around 5 L/minute and after the installation of the device the water flow decreased to 1.27 L/minute. The results of this community service activity have given the congregation awareness to preserve the environment by carrying out energy efficiency and water conservation, and spreading the culture of saving water in the surrounding environment.

Abstract

In the middle of the widespread use of social media by Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) for promoting their business, some assisted SMEs have yet to maximize the use of this medium fully. Among them are assisted SMEs under Baitul Maal Hidayatullah's (BMH) supervision. Recognizing this condition, Lecturers from the Communication and Management programs of Bakrie University, through the CSR Komunikasih program, initiated the PkM “Improving Assisted UMKM of Baitul Maal Hidayatullah (BMH) Depok through Social Media Management Workshop”. This program aims to prepare assisted SMEs’ knowledge and skills to manage social media in developing brands. The program utilizes both online and offline workshops, as well as mentoring for assisted SMEs. It includes two online workshops, one offline workshop, and a month of post-workshop mentoring for SMEs. The event was attended by eight assisted SMEs of BMH, as well as six students under BMH’s supervision. The program results indicate that over 90% of participants gained an understanding of social media content production for branding and promoting their products. However, some challenges were identified, including limited time for assisted SMEs, technological gaps among assisted SMEs, and time and tool constraints for BMH-supervised students in creating content and following the supervisor's guidance.

Abstract

Current technological advancements have facilitated various aspects of life for those who utilize them. However, the use of technology, particularly in communication and various other sectors, often lacks corresponding responsibility for its impacts. One significant negative impact is the rise in cyberbullying cases, which not only causes distress but also affects the process of an individual's self-concept formation. In fact, victims of cyberbullying require considerable time to recover from its psychological effects. Considering this phenomenon, our Community Service Program (PkM) will focus on providing explanations about media literacy, specifically the dangers of cyberbullying and its effect on individual self-concept formation. The goal of this initiative is to offer guidance and education on responsible social media usage to 11th and 12th-grade students at Al’Ma’ruf High School in Cibubur, East Jakarta. Responsibility here means that every user should be aware that messages conveyed, both verbally and non-verbally, carry meanings and impacts. These messages can influence the cognitive, affective, and conative aspects of the individuals receiving them. Furthermore, to ensure the effectiveness of this activity, psychological support and effective coping strategies are essential. This support is necessary to help mitigate negative impacts and foster the recovery of a positive self-concept by implementing the Do's and Don’ts provided by facilitators, who can also serve as agents of change among their peers.

Abstract

The Mitra Netra Foundation wishes to continue the development of the existing Math Mitra Netra Braille Converter (Math-MBC) application based on several new requirements. This application can convert mathematical formulas from regular format to Braille format or vice versa. It can help visually impaired students and educators who are not familiar with Braille to conduct mathematics learning activities. The Mitra Netra Foundation needs assistance from other parties to realize its goal, including conducting a feasibility study as the initial stage of further development. This community service activity aims to assist the Mitra Netra Foundation in conducting a feasibility study for the further development of the Math-MBC application. Therefore, this activity is carried out over two months with two participants experienced in the field of assistive technology development for the visually impaired at the Mitra Netra Foundation. This activity consists of two stages: introducing the Technical, Economic, Legal, Operational, and Scheduling (TELOS) method and assisting in the feasibility study. Using the TELOS method, the feasibility study of the application development is conducted from technical, economic, legal, operational, and scheduling aspects. Based on the analysis, further development is feasible if done by another party, funded by a grant, within a minimum period of four months. The Mitra Netra Foundation is satisfied with the benefits, materials, organization, and time efficiency of this activity. This activity has provided the participants with new understanding in conducting feasibility studies for application development in the future. It also resulted in a feasibility study document for the further development of the Math-MBC application. This document can serve as a reference for the Mitra Netra Foundation to take the next steps in further developing the Math-MBC application.

Abstract

Improving the quality of human resources (HR) depends on the parenting styles applied. Implementing incorrect parenting styles can impact the cognitive, affective, and conative aspects of an individual. When parents' educational approaches are influenced by traditional views on gender roles, gender stereotypes can unintentionally be integrated into child-rearing, in this case with adolescents. This can lead to inequality and create unhealthy parenting styles. Recognizing this, there is a need for literacy on parenting styles reviewed from the perspective of gender communication and media for parents and adolescents. Through Community Service (PkM) activities, the focus is to provide knowledge about parenting styles in the digital communication era and how to implement soft skills such as effective communication with teenagers. Subsequently, participants can apply three pillars in building a good relationship between parents and their teenagers, namely empathy, tolerance, and loyalty. This activity is aimed at parents with teenagers at the Family Welfare Development (PKK) in Pondok Kopi, East Jakarta. Therefore, this activity is needed to increase awareness and knowledge of the participants about Generation Z's attitudes and behaviors. Furthermore, the results from the post-test showed that participants were very enthusiastic about participating in this activity and expressed a desire for more such events to further explore Generation Z from the perspective of communication psychology.

Abstract

Scientific publications are one of the requirements for student graduation. The importance of scientific publications for students is that they can be used as a portfolio to apply for a job or get a scholarship. However, in publishing an article that is "good science", students still have difficulty analyzing data using several data processing software programs. The purpose of this community service is to provide data processing application training to students to accelerate Scopus and Web of Science (WoS)-indexed publications. The method used was in the form of tiered training attended by 46 students. Data analysis was carried out with a qualitative and quantitative approach using Kirkpatrick's Level 1 and Level 2 evaluation models. The results of this training, in addition to getting a positive satisfaction response from the participants on the training material provided, also gained a fairly good understanding of the training material provided, with a high average task value for each training above 75.
