Abstract

Public Service Announcement (PSAs) are often rigid and seem serious because they aim to shape behavioral changes, both for individuals, groups and their social order. The ILM production process is the same as advertising production in general, but the output produced in PSA is not in the form of profit. PSA in social marketing requires a creative strategy in compiling messages and placing PSA media so that it is more able to encourage consumers to change behavior. Through this Community Service activity, creativity can also be expressed in PSA production which is built through various methods such as the courage to take risks, the courage to challenge assumptions, the courage to take opportunities for change and the ability to see in new ways. Community Service participants are students in grades X and XI at SMK Fransiskus 1 Jakarta, and collaborate with active students of the Bakrie University Communication Science Study Program, using the lecture method and Project Based Learning (PjBL) through audio-visual production training and public speaking provided by the Community Service Team and TVOne Senior Presenter, Indy Rahmawati. Furthermore, participants make PSA videos with topics related to the SDGs. The purpose of this activity is to provide an understanding of how creative strategies in making PSAs to convey persuasive messages and media placement as a social marketing medium. The results of this activity, participants know the characteristics of commercial advertising with PSAs and how to design creativity in PSAs production and delivery with good public speaking.

Abstract

Community service (PkM) aims to increase the knowledge and understanding of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and the importance of accounting and financial statements in a business. Currently, the Government of Indonesia is focusing on developing MSMEs as a main foundation of the economic sector to encourage the ability to be independent in developing their businesses. However, the problem faced by MSMEs is that many have not prepared financial statements, especially based on the Financial Accounting Standards for Micro, Small, and Medium Entities (SAK EMKM). This is due to the lack of knowledge and understanding of financial management and financial statements.  Based on these problems, it is necessary to give training in digital-based financial reports for MSMEs based on SAK EMKM. The community service method is training in accounting and financial reporting using SAK EMKM.  In addition, digital-based financial reports use the CrediBook application, making it easier for MSMEs to record business transactions. The partner of this PkM is a group of women (PKK) RW 02, Pancoran, South Jakarta, who produce cheese sticks under the brand "My Cheese". The results of this community service show that the participants gained increased knowledge and understanding of financial management and financial statements based on SAK EMKM. The increase can be seen from the pre-test and post-test results conducted on the training participants. The training resulted in a 75% increase in understanding of management and financial statements (from 25% to 100%) and an 87.5% increase in knowledge about SAK EMKM (from 12.5% to 100%).

Abstract

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) stated that domestic cooking oil consumption increased by 2.32% per year in the household sector from 2015 to 2020. According to a survey, 95% (n=20) of residents of RW 02, Pancoran Village, South Jakarta are one of the producers of used cooking oil from kitchen activities and 70% do not know how to process used cooking oil into useful products. Used cooking oil that is not managed properly can pollute the environment and is harmful to health if consumed repeatedly. On the other hand, used cooking oil has great potential benefits in various sectors. The purpose of this community service activity is to provide education and training to residents about the management of used cooking oil and how to process used cooking oil waste into useful derivative products containing ecoenzyme. The method used is by distributing questionnaires, education and training in making aromatherapy candles and liquid soap containing ecoenzyme. The indicator of activity achievement is that participants have independently produced aromatherapy candles for a bazaar with better quality. The results of the questionnaire after the training stated that all training participants (100%, n = 14) had understood how to manage used cooking oil properly, had understood how to make used cooking oil derivative products and were interested in making it a business.

Abstract

The Healthy Nutrition House Programme (PROGES) was implemented by Sahid University (USAHID) to improve the nutritional quality of young children at risk of stunting and malnutrition in RW 06, Pancoran Mas, Depok City. This programme focuses on creating a sustainable supplementary feeding system model (PMT) by engaging community members as donors. The first phase of PROGES successfully involved 30 participants from all RW06 residents and community leaders from the Integrated Service Post (Posyandu) and Family Empowerment and Welfare (PKK) cadres. Prior to the socialisation of the programme, the participants were asked several questions through a questionnaire regarding their initial views on the programme, which consisted of: experiences with the programme, types of food usually donated for PMT for young children, main reasons for participating in the programme, and perceptions of benefits if implemented for the RW 06 community. This was followed by a Forum Group Discussion (FGD) to agree on a PMT implementation system model that would meet the needs of the residents. The results of the FGD for the PMT implementation system model started with data collection on the recipients of donations, identification of donors, and collection of food ingredients from the residents, which were then stored in the Healthy Nutrition House RW 06 according to cooked or raw conditions. In addition, food distribution is carried out once a month before Posyandu, with priority given to underprivileged households with malnourished young children at risk of stunting. This first phase of the PROGES programme went smoothly and a sustainable PMT system model was successfully agreed with community leaders and residents of RW 06.

Abstract

Lihai Islamic Preschool is an early childhood education institution that focuses on the seven center curriculum but has limitations in the quality of interactive educational play tools that support the seven center curriculum. Because of this, interactive graphic elements like busy-boards and busy-books need to be designed. They play important roles in background design and storyboard plot. Both of these aspects are inseparable in interactive books, yet their roles are often overlooked. The design of the background and storyboard significantly influences preschool children's attention, interest, and emotional response to the story; bright colors, textures, and simple interactions are very effective in enhancing their engagement and potentially affecting their understanding and cognitive aspects. Through active collaboration with 13 teachers from Lihai Islamic Preschool, the community service team from Telkom University presents solutions in designing interactive graphic elements that consider production and social aspects. This activity uses interview methods, product experiments, and questionnaires to obtain partner feedback. The final results transferred to the partners are busy boards and books that have storylines and background designs in accordance with the center's approach to supporting interactive play activities for early childhood.

Abstract

The development of outstanding human resources can be achieved through the application of Science and Technology (S&T) in education. The focus of applying S&T is on the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) learning approach. The STEM learning approach equips students with the ability to think creatively, critically, and problem-solving oriented, as well as to work collaboratively in teams, adapt to technological advancements, and continue to innovate. A lack of examples regarding the methods and applications of the latest technology in STEM fields poses a problem for students in schools. Students often struggle with understanding theories due to the absence of engaging demonstrative examples. The use of the Internet of Things (IoT) in various fields and daily life serves as an example of STEM application. Introducing IoT in several science subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics can provide engaging and relevant learning experiences. The goal of this Community Service activity is to provide an introduction and examples of IoT application as a supporting model for STEM learning at SMAN 1 Banjarbaru. The method used involves socializing IoT technology and including practical applications of IoT in STEM fields, such as assembling IoT kit components with WeMos D1, ESP32 NodeMCU, and various sensors for measuring temperature and pH. It is expected that students will understand the application of the latest IoT technology in STEM fields. Additionally, the school will be able to provide engaging, up-to-date learning experiences in technology that are relevant to the latest curriculum. As the result, three groups of students, each consisting of five members, successfully developed an IoT system for measuring liquid temperature and pH.

Abstract

Culinary micro businesses and home industries have a strategic role in local economic development, especially in the Tangerang area. However, obstacles such as low brand awareness, less than optimal business management, and minimal understanding of business regulations hinder the competitiveness of this sector. This study aims to examine how product re-branding and improving business governance can increase the competitiveness of culinary micro businesses. Using the Community-Based Research (CBR) methodology, this community engagement initiative involved 10 business owners selected through purposive sampling, utilizing in-depth interviews and field observations. The results showed that the rebranding strategy, including improving packaging, improving product quality, and strengthening marketing messages, succeeded in increasing sales by up to 30%. In addition, training in financial management, marketing, and operational management improved the skills of business actors. Administrative support in managing permits such as NIB, PIRT, and halal certification also provided more trust to consumers. In conclusion, the combination of an effective rebranding strategy and good business governance can increase the competitiveness of this industry.

Abstract

Boyolali Regency emerged as the leading producer of papayas in Central Java Province in 2023, with a production volume reaching 324,978.72 quintals per year. However, during peak harvest seasons, a significant portion of the harvested papayas fails to be sold optimally due to non-compliance with syarat mutu standards set by middlemen and buyers. The development of fruit leather is proposed as a strategy to mitigate food loss and enhance the economic value of papayas during peak harvest periods, leveraging the region's potential. The stages of implementation are pre-training and post-training. Prior to the implementation of fruit leather production training, 89.47% of members of the Ngudi Santosa Farmers Group in Boyolali Regency were aware of the nutritional content of papayas, yet 63.16% had never processed papayas into food or beverages to increase their utility and economic value. Following the training, over 89% of participants gained an understanding of the fruit leather production process, recognizing that it can be made not only from papayas but also from various other fruits. Additionally, they acknowledged that fruit leather is a functional food product designed to enhance the utility and economic value of fruits. The papaya fruit leather production training received a "very satisfied" rating from 50% of participants, while the remainder rated it as "satisfied." This indicates that community training on agricultural processing to create value-added products with enhanced utility and economic benefits like papaya fruit leather is highly anticipated by the public. Such initiatives are particularly relevant during peak harvest seasons to address and prevent food loss.

Abstract

Natural Science Subject Teachers' Conference (MGMP IPA) in Malang City is a community of science teachers who actively discuss and collaborate to enhance their professionalism. However, science teachers still face major challenges when implementing the independent curriculum; one of them is using ICT-based science learning media. This problem shows the need for training to carry out empowerment activities for science teachers in the MGMP Malang to develop Google Sites as ICT-based learning media. This community service applied the five-stage method: socialization, training, application of technology, mentoring and evaluation, and program sustainability. Teachers can upload the results of several works that have been compiled on Google Sites, consisting of learning objectives, materials, photos of activities, assessments, and other learning resources that are connected to Google Apps, so that teachers can access them at any time. Teachers use online media such as Quizizz, Kahoot, and Spinner for the assessment component. Overall, based on the results of the teachers’ questionnaire and the products made, it is indicated that this community service has succeeded in providing direct experience, which triggered teachers’ enthusiasm to use Google Sites as an interesting and meaningful learning medium in the class. These findings showed the program helped the teachers to enhance their professionalism.

Abstract

Community-based homestay management is one of the strategies in supporting the development of sustainable tourism and based on the local economy. However, there are still many homestay managers who face various obstacles, such as a lack of understanding of service standards, limitations in digital marketing, and a lack of implementation of sustainability concepts. This community capacity building program in homestay management aims to improve servicequality, digital marketing strategies, and environmentally friendly practices in homestay management in Sidomulyo Village, Jember Regency. The method used in this program is the Participatory Action Research approach. The results of this program show that after the training, 80% of tourists feel more satisfied with the homestay service, while 90% of managers start actively marketing their homestays through social media and online platforms. In addition, the concept of sustainability is on the rise, with 70% of homestay managers starting to implement waste sorting systems and reduce the use of single-use plastics. Despite this, the program still faces a number of challenges, such as limited funds for facility renovations, lack of ongoing assistance in digital marketing, and lack of cooperation with travel agents and tour operators.
