Abstract

Low interest in reading among students is a common phenomenon. This occurs due to a lack of reading skills in students, especially in lower grades. One method to improve early reading skills is the phonics method. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the phonics method and the activities of teachers and students when implementing the phonics method. This type of research is Classroom Action Research with a qualitative statistical approach using the Kemmis and McTaggart model (1998). The subjects of this study were second-grade students who have low early reading skills and the second-grade homeroom teacher of Gue Gajah Elementary School, Aceh Besar Regency as an observer. The data collection technique used observation sheets and performance tests. The data analysis technique in this study used a percentage formula for teacher and student activities, a classical percentage formula for performance tests and there was a classical success indicator of ≥75%. The results of the data analysis showed that there was an increase in teacher activity of 86.11% from the previous 47.22%, student activity of 90% from the previous 65% and classical early reading skills of 90% from the previous 63%. Thus, it can be concluded that the phonics method can improve the reading skills of class II students of SD Negeri Gue Gajah, Aceh Besar Regency.

Abstract

SOPEP is a box that is usually red or yellow and has the words SOPEP written on it and contains tools used to prevent oil spills, such as rags, sand, sawdust, oil spill dispersant (OSD), brooms, and buckets. SOPEP (Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plan) is a plan for handling oil spills into the sea that every ship must have. MARPOL 73/78 Annex I, requires that all ships with GT 400 and above must (for tankers starting from GT 150 and above) be equipped with SOPEP equipment following the instructions given by IMO and MEPC (Marine Environmental Protection Committee). Sailing practice is carried out at MV.DK02. The method used in this research is the descriptive qualitative method. That is a research method that utilizes qualitative data and is described descriptively. The results of this study indicate that the constraints experienced by the kru when implementing SOPEP on ships were the kru's lack of knowledge about SOPEP and the tools in it, who should already be familiar with SOPEP tools and their uses.

Abstract

Inclusive education at SDN 94 Singkawang faces various challenges, particularly in the learning process for Grade IV children with special needs. These children have diverse learning requirements, yet teachers often lack adequate skills, experience, and resources. In addition, school facilities are limited, and collaboration with parents and the community has not been optimal. This study aims to describe the implementation of learning and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors of inclusive education for children with special needs in Grade IV at SDN 94 Singkawang. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. The subjects included the principal, teachers, and parents. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that learning for children with special needs still follows general teaching methods without significant curriculum modifications. Teachers provide additional attention and repetition of materials; however, instructional strategies are not yet fully flexible and individualized according to the children’s needs. Supporting factors include active parental involvement and communication, varied peer support, and school policies promoting collaboration with UPTD LDPT and parental participation. The main inhibiting factors are limited facilities and insufficient ongoing teacher training. In conclusion, inclusive education in Grade IV at SDN 94 Singkawang has been implemented, but improvements are needed in developing more individualized learning strategies, enhancing facilities, and providing continuous teacher training to ensure more effective inclusive practices.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the phenomenon of low mathematics learning outcomes on fraction material in class IV of SDN 058119 Pematang Sentang, where only 26.67% of students were able to achieve the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM) of 65. The main problem stems from the use of conventional lecture methods which cause students to become passive and have difficulty understanding abstract fraction concepts. The purpose of this study is to improve mathematics learning outcomes through the application of the Numbered Heads Together (NHT) type cooperative learning model. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (PTK) with the spiral design of the Kemmis and McTaggart model carried out in two cycles for 15 class IV students. Data collection techniques included learning outcome tests and student activity observations. The results showed a consistent improvement, where classical learning completeness in the pre-cycle was 26.67% (4 students) with an average of 54.67, increased to 60.00% (9 students) with an average of 68.40 in cycle I, and reached a maximum completeness of 100.00% (15 students) with an average of 79.67 in cycle II. Student participation activity also increased significantly from "fair" to "excellent" criteria. The conclusion of this study is that the application of the NHT model effectively transforms the quality of learning by encouraging individual responsibility through a numbering system and group collaboration in the "heads together" phase so that student learning outcomes can improve optimally.

Abstract

Student character building is one of the primary goals of education in Indonesia, particularly in Islamic educational institutions such as State Islamic Senior High Schools (MAN). Effective character education focuses not only on cognitive aspects but also on students' affective and social aspects. One new approach introduced to support this goal is the Love-Based Curriculum (KBC), which places the values of love, empathy, and respect as the main foundation of the learning process. This study uses literature review and theoretical studies to analyze the effectiveness of the KBC in shaping the character of MAN students, as well as the challenges and opportunities for its implementation in the context of Islamic education. The study results indicate that the KBC has the potential to improve character values such as empathy, responsibility, discipline, and social goodness in students, although its implementation requires adequate policy support, teacher training, and affective evaluation.

Abstract

Mental health and learning concentration are two main pillars of student academic success that currently face serious challenges due to academic pressure, sedentary lifestyle, and residual effects of the pandemic. This study aims to analyze the benefits of physical activity on the mental health and learning concentration of college students. The approach used was an analytical survey with a cross-sectional design involving 120 students from PJKR FIKK at Universitas Negeri Makassar selected using stratified random sampling. Physical activity was measured using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), mental health was measured using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21), and learning concentration was measured using the Concentration Grid Test (CGT) and a validated learning concentration scale. Data analysis used Pearson correlation test and multiple linear regression with significance level alpha = 0.05. Results showed a significant relationship between physical activity level and mental health (r = -0.587, p = 0.000) and between physical activity and learning concentration (r = 0.612, p = 0.000). Regression analysis showed that physical activity significantly predicted mental health (Beta = -0.547, p < 0.001) and learning concentration (Beta = 0.573, p < 0.001), with effective contributions of 32.4% and 35.7% respectively. It is concluded that regular physical activity provides highly significant benefits for improving mental health and learning concentration of college students, thus needing to be integrated as part of a holistic health intervention strategy in higher education.
