Purpose: This study explores small-scale tourism entrepreneurship in emerging markets to uncover what drives entrepreneurs in this sector. By analyzing factors such as entrepreneurial intentions, perceived opportunities, skills, and market knowledge, this study offers insights into entrepreneurship dynamics in tourism. Research Methodology: Studying small-scale tourism entrepreneurship in emerging markets using a qualitative approach means using methods that focus on understanding the experiences, perceptions, and behaviors of individuals and organizations in the tourism industry. This method is valuable for capturing the complexity of entrepreneurial activities in these markets, where economic, social, and cultural factors significantly influence the success and sustainability of small-scale tourism businesses. Results: Entrepreneurial skills are crucial for success, and this study identifies the essential skills for entrepreneurs in these markets. Market knowledge is key for decision making, and this study highlights its importance in fostering sustainable entrepreneurship. Limitations: The focus on small-scale tourism entrepreneurship may overlook large-scale tourism ventures, which could also be significant drivers of economic development in emerging markets. Contributions: By combining these elements, this study offers a thorough understanding of the potential for small-scale tourism entrepreneurship in emerging markets with the goal of providing guidance for policymakers, practitioners, and aspiring entrepreneurs to stimulate industry expansion and progress. Novelty: This study explores how entrepreneurs in these markets tackle challenges and seize opportunities, highlighting their innovative strategies and their impact on local economies. Focusing on this less-explored area, this study aims to offer insights that can guide policymakers, empower entrepreneurs, and enrich academic discussions on entrepreneurship in emerging markets.

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines sustainable practices in travel and tourism, particularly Balinese tourism. It reviews the literature to understand the current sustainability efforts and suggests ways to enhance environmental, social, and economic sustainability. The aim is to offer ideas for a greener future in travel and tourism that is applicable beyond Bali. Research Methodology:  This study employs a quantitative approach, focusing on structural equation modelling, to investigate sustainable tourism practices in Bali. A quantitative approach was selected for its ability to offer a comprehensive understanding of sustainable practices, challenges, and opportunities in Balinese tourism. Results: The findings suggest that while progress has been made in implementing sustainable practices, challenges remain to be overcome, such as balancing economic growth with environmental protection and ensuring that benefits are equally distributed among local communities. Limitations: The main limitation of this study is its reliance on quantitative analysis, which might limit the depth of analysis and the ability to collect firsthand insights from Balinese tourism stakeholders. Focusing solely on Balinese tourism could restrict the relevance of these findings to other locations. Contribution: This research can improve environmental, social, and economic sustainability. It aims to benefit policymakers, industry practitioners, and academics interested in promoting sustainability of travel and tourism in Bali and beyond. Novelty: This study is unique in its exploration of sustainable travel and tourism practices. Although sustainability in tourism is gaining attention, this study stands out for its detailed examination of environmental conservation, social responsibility, and economic viability.

Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates the relationship between social media marketing efforts and brand perception among customers of clothing stores in Davao del Norte, the Philippines. Research Methodology:  A descriptive-correlational research design was employed, involving 200 respondents selected through stratified sampling. Adapted questionnaires were used to measure social media marketing efforts and brand perception, and statistical analysis was conducted to determine the correlation. Results: The findings indicate a high level of social media marketing efforts, particularly in the areas of entertainment, interaction, trendiness, customization, and word-of-mouth. Functional perception has emerged as the most significant factor influencing brand perception. A significant correlation (p < 0.000, R = 0.784) was found between social media marketing efforts and brand perceptions. Limitations: The study's generalizability is limited because of its focus on a specific region and sample demographics. Contribution: This study underscores the critical role of social media marketing in fostering consumer trust and engagement in clothing stores. By leveraging user-generated content and entertainment elements, businesses can amplify brand visibility, deepen their emotional connections with customers, and foster loyalty and repeat purchases. Future research should delve deeper into the interplay between word-of-mouth marketing, affective perceptions, and brand identity to enrich our understanding of consumer behavior in the digital age.

Abstract

Purpose: This research paper aims to explore how positive psychological resources influence youth participating in the Industrial Training Fund’s (ITF) National Industrial Skill Development Programme (NISDP), specifically examining the programs’ impact on self-employment creation in Plateau State, Nigeria. Method: The paper employs Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and a Structural Equation Model (SEM) to examine the relationship between positive psychological resources and self-employment creation in Plateau State. Results: The study concludes that dimensions of positive psychological resources serve as effective predictors of self-employment creation among youths. However, it notes that two dimensions; resilience and hope, did not exhibit a significant positive relationship. Nonetheless, the lack of significance does not negate the existence of a relationship explaining self-employment creation among youths in the context of this study. Limitations: Several factors constrained the study. It was conducted within a specific constituency in Plateau State, limiting its scope and generalizability. Therefore, the results may not be applicable to the entire state. Contributions: This study offers insights beneficial to both self-employed and unemployed youths, emphasizing the importance of a positive mindset in self-employment creation. The findings are particularly relevant to the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) and its National Industrial Skills Development Programme (NISDP), shedding light on the effectiveness of their training programs fostering self-employment. Moreover, this research contributes to the existing body of literature on self-employment creation among youths and extends understanding of positive psychological capital resources (PSYCAP) by examining various dimensions. Additionally, it provides guidance for future directions in research and practice in this field.

Abstract

Purpose: This research explores the challenges and opportunities of integrating a gender perspective into tourism development in the border regions of East Nusa Tenggara (ENT) and Timor Leste. Research Methodology: Using a qualitative approach, this study collected data through literature reviews and stakeholder interviews. Results: The analysis revealed that women face various obstacles to tourism sector development, such as limited access to capital, unequal job opportunities, and societal gender stereotypes. Despite these challenges, there are significant opportunities for women to enhance their participation in the tourism industry, potentially leading to increased wellbeing. Limitations: This study acknowledges limitations, including the scope of qualitative research and the challenges in generalizing findings to broader contexts beyond ENT and Timor Leste. Contributions: Based on these findings, this research proposes tourism development strategies focusing on inclusive gender vocational training programs; enhanced collaboration among government, private sector, and educational institutions; and promoting women's leadership and decision-making roles in tourism management. Novelty: This study highlights the potential for more inclusive tourism development in the ENT-Timor Leste border region, with the aim of providing economic benefits to local communities.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the influence of Destination Image and Amenities on Revisit Intention with Visitor Satisfaction as an intervening variable at Balaputra Dewa Museum. The research seeks to understand how these factors contribute to improving the visitor experience and encouraging return visits. Research Methodology: The research employs a quantitative approach using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with Partial Least Squares (PLS). Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 150 visitors of the Balaputra Dewa Museum, measured using a Likert scale. The model tested direct and indirect relationships between Destination Image, Amenities, Visitor Satisfaction, and Revisit Intention. Results: The findings indicate that Destination Image and Amenities significantly impact Revisit Intention. Visitor Satisfaction mediates the relationship between Destination Image and Revisit Intention, as well as between Amenities and Revisit Intention. Destination Image was shown to have a stronger influence on revisit intention compared to amenities. Indirect effects underscore the importance of visitor satisfaction in maximizing the impact of destination attributes. Conclusion: This study shows that Visitor Satisfaction helps explain how Destination Image and Amenities influence Revisit Intention at the Balaputra Dewa Museum, adding to knowledge in tourism and destination management. Limitations: The study is limited to one museum, which may reduce its applicability to other cultural or tourism sites. The cross-sectional data does not reflect long-term changes in visitor perceptions. Contributions: This research contributes to tourism management literature by emphasizing the role of destination image and amenities in fostering visitor satisfaction and revisit intention, providing insights for museum managers and policymakers. Novelty: The study introduces Visitor Satisfaction as an intervening variable, offering a deeper understanding of how satisfaction bridges the relationship between Destination Image and Amenities with Revisit Intention.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effects of electronic word-of-mouth (e-WOM) on tourists’ travel intentions. Research Methodology:  The researchers collected 302 data points using a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire. For this study, a descriptive research technique or methodology was used based on quantitative data. The sampling method was a non-probabilistic convenience sampling method. The SPSS 26.0 version was used for descriptive statistics analysis, reliability testing, and regression analysis. Results: Four independent variables out of five (positive online reviews, negative online reviews, source credibility, and e-WOM quality) had a favorable impact on travelers' plans to travel. Only one variable (e-WOM quality) had no favorable results. Limitations: The study's use of a non-probability convenience sampling strategy was constrained to a certain limited geographic area. There were also issues related to time and money in this investigation. Contribution: This research will help travel organizations understand and acknowledge e-WOM and its significance, as well as develop strategies to manage its effects. In addition, it will help tourists select their tour destinations. Novelty: This study addresses the impact of e-WOM on tourist decision making and explains the complex factors that affect tourists’ decisions to visit a tourist place.

Abstract

Purpose: This investigation stemmed from the need to support women living with HIV/AIDS using community approaches of business partnerships and women empowerment as opposed to government-and private sector-led support. Research Methodology:  This study adopted systematic sampling techniques for data collection from 123 women living with HIV/AIDS from a designated health center in Kabale Municipality. Women taking ARVs were identified from the points where they were collecting their ARVs, and were given questionnaires after consenting to participate in the study. Results: Women empowerment increased decision-making power, while business partnerships decreased dependence on male partners. Women empowerment increases support for women living with HIV/AIDS compared with business partnerships. Business partnerships, as observed in this study, draw weak relationships from many women living with HIV/AIDS. Women empowerment programs that cut across all age groups are effective in supporting vulnerable women living with HIV/AIDS. Limitations: This study encountered the challenge of interfacing with the respondents, since the information was collected by those in charge of the drug distribution center but not the researchers, and these affected in-depth investigations. Women accessing HIV/AIDS do not want to be identified because of stigma within the community. Contributions: From a public health perspective, designers of intervention programs to support women living with HIV/AIDS should consider inclusiveness in design, driven by age categorizations. Designers of intervention programs to support women living with HIV/AIDS should target business partnerships among low-income earners to reduce vulnerability.
