Abstract

Adolescent future orientation plays a crucial role in educational engagement, goal setting, and preparation for adulthood. Although future orientation has been extensively researched among adolescents in formal schools, research on this construct among students in Salafiyah Islamic boarding schools, as a representation of religion-based non-formal education, remains very limited. Addressing this gap is important for understanding how adolescents in alternative educational settings construct future aspirations and plans. This preliminary study employed a mixed-method descriptive exploratory design. Data were collected from 44 santri using questionnaires comprising closed- and open-ended questions. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while qualitative responses were examined through thematic analysis. Findings show that (1) 97.8% of students often think about the future and consider education and family/community environment to affect their future; (2) career aspirations are dominated by entrepreneurs (36.4%), teachers (20.4%), and religious professions (13.6%); (3) thematic analysis yields five main themes: conceptualization of the future, future goals, outlook on the future, preparation strategies, and influencing factors. Even though they study outside the formal system, students actively build future aspirations and demonstrate directed educational planning, so it is important to integrate future-oriented pedagogical practices, career guidance, and goal-setting activities in non-formal educational institutions. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Calm Corner approach as a developmental counseling and psychotherapy service in inclusive early childhood education at TK Islam Insan Mandiri Nabire. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design involving two inclusive children, one classroom teacher, and one teaching assistant. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, while children's developmental progress was assessed using a 1–4 rating scale. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman interactive model and was supported by quantitative analysis of the children's developmental scores. The findings indicate that the Calm Corner functions as a safe and supportive environment that helps children regulate their emotions, enhance self-awareness, and develop independent self-soothing abilities. Quantitative analysis revealed significant improvements in socio-emotional development. The average emotional score increased from 1.5 to 3.0, with a gain of 1.5 (high category), while the average social score increased from 1.5 to 3.0, with a gain of 1.5 (high category). In terms of behavioral development, the average score increased from 2.0 to 3.0, a gain of 1.0 (moderate category), as reflected in reduced aggressive behaviors and improved adaptive learning behaviors. The consistency of observations between the two observers demonstrated strong data validity. Therefore, the Calm Corner approach is effective as a developmental counseling and psychotherapy service in supporting the social, emotional, and behavioral development of inclusive early childhood learners. Abstract

Digital wellbeing is an individual's subjective condition in managing the impact of digital technology in a balanced manner. This study developed a Digital Wellbeing Scale instrument for high school students and tested its validity and reliability using Rasch model analysis, filling a literature gap that has only been available at the university level. The instrument was tested on 236 high school students with validity results based on the criteria of Outfit MNSQ (0.5–1.5), ZSTD (-2.0–+2.0), and Pt Measure Corr (0.4–0.85), where all 48 items met the standard. The instrument's reliability was classified as good (Cronbach's alpha = 0.86), with a person reliability of 0.84 (good) and an item reliability of 0.99 (excellent). This instrument can be used by guidance and counseling teachers to map students' digital wellbeing profiles and design programs to prevent the negative impact of technology. This research contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing) by promoting mental health and preventing digital addiction among adolescents, SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing schools with evidence-based tools to support student development, and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by ensuring equitable access to digital wellbeing assessment across diverse student populations. Abstract

This study aims to develop KANVAS ALAM, an eco-art therapy-based group guidance program designed to enhance flourishing among undergraduate education students. Flourishing, rooted in Seligman's PERMA framework, refers to optimal well-being encompassing positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning, and accomplishment. Employing the ADDIE research and development model, this study proceeded through analysis, design, and development stages. A preliminary needs assessment involving 497 undergraduate education students revealed that 38% exhibited moderate to low flourishing levels, underscoring the need for targeted interventions. The KANVAS ALAM program was structured across three sessions aligned with flourishing dimensions: meaning in life, social connectedness, and optimism about the future. Each session integrates nature-based creative activities, including drawing, mandala creation, and collage techniques. Expert validation was conducted by four specialists in guidance and counseling and art, who evaluated program components including rationale, needs analysis, objectives, facilitator competencies, operational plans, and evaluation indicators. Results confirmed the program's feasibility with revisions recommended in facilitator training, activity processes, media utilization, and reflection components. KANVAS ALAM represents a novel contribution as the first structured intervention integrating eco-art therapy into group guidance services specifically targeting flourishing in educational settings. This innovation extends counseling services beyond problem-solving toward positive psychological development. Future research should examine program effectiveness through quasi-experimental designs and explore long-term impacts on student well-being and academic outcomes. Abstract

Personal meaning in life is a crucial psychological resource that supports adaptive functioning, sustained motivation, and wellbeing during emerging adulthood. While extensively studied among employees and educators, research on university students, particularly within non-Western, collectivist, and religious contexts, remains limited. Moreover, prior studies have largely focused on predictive or mediational models, leaving the descriptive configuration of multidimensional meaning underexplored. Addressing this gap, the present study examines personal meaning profiles and gender differences among Indonesian undergraduates. Using a quantitative cross-sectional design, data were collected from 272 students through the Personal Meaning Brief Scale. Inferential analyses revealed that students reported a moderate level of overall personal meaning, with no significant gender differences. Religion emerged as the most salient source of meaning, whereas intimacy was consistently the least developed dimension. This pattern suggests an imbalanced meaning structure, in which belief-based sources develop more strongly than relational and self-transcendence-oriented meaning during emerging adulthood. The findings extend the cross-cultural aspects of personal meaning theory and highlight implications for higher education and mental health interventions. Abstract

The prevalence of Career Decision-Making Difficulties (CDM) among vocational high school students remains a significant concern, particularly in developing regions where access to structured career guidance is limited. This study examines the effectiveness of John L. Holland's RIASEC-based career counseling in reducing CDM among vocational students in Bali Province, Indonesia. A quantitative pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach was employed. The sample comprised 273 eleventh-grade students selected from 26 schools across Bali using purposive random sampling. Data were collected using a validated Career Decision-Making Difficulties Questionnaire and analyzed using a paired-sample t-test. The intervention consisted of at least three structured RIASEC counseling sessions delivered individually or in groups. Results demonstrated a substantial and statistically significant increase in career decision-making scores from pretest (M = 28.47) to posttest (M = 77.80), with t_calculated (4.76) exceeding t_table (1.65), thereby rejecting the null hypothesis. These findings establish that Holland's RIASEC model, operationalized through a systematic three-stage syntax, effectively reduces CDM by enhancing students' self-understanding and aligning their interests with suitable career pathways. This study contributes original evidence from a collectivist cultural context, addressing a critical gap in the literature. The findings offer practical implications for guidance and counseling teachers, school policy development, and counselor education programs, while underscoring the need for longitudinal research to assess sustained career outcomes. Abstract

Career exploration is a critical developmental task for high school students, yet many adolescents in rural and underserved areas lack access to engaging, structured, and contextually relevant career information. This study aimed to develop and validate interactive video-based career information media to enhance career exploration among eleventh-grade students in Pandeglang, Indonesia. A Research and Development approach employing the ADDIE model was used, involving needs analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. A total of 613 students participated in the needs assessment, followed by expert validation and field trials. The instrument demonstrated high validity and reliability. Expert validation yielded a feasibility score in the very good category, confirming the media's quality across content accuracy, instructional design, and technical aspects. Small-scale and large-scale trials showed consistent improvements in students' career exploration scores, with positive responses from both students and guidance counselors regarding the media's engagement and usability. The findings indicate that interactive video media effectively enhance students' self-awareness, understanding of career options, and active engagement in career exploration activities. This study contributes a validated, innovative, and scalable tool for school guidance and counseling services, particularly in regional contexts. Future research should employ experimental designs, examine long-term career outcomes, and adapt the media for broader educational settings. Abstract

Violence perpetrated by fathers from childhood to early adulthood plays a major role in shaping an individual’s emotion regulation abilities. Emotion regulation is a crucial aspect of adaptive emotional functioning. This study aimed to explore in depth the processes and strategies of emotion regulation in an early adult woman who has experienced paternal violence.  A qualitative approach with a narrative research design was employed. Data were collected from one subject and two informants and analyzed using qualitative analysis, including data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that experiences of family violence contribute to the development of maladaptive emotion regulation patterns, predominantly characterized by antecedent-focused strategies such as avoidance, distraction, and rumination, while also involving response-focused strategies, including expressive suppression and emotion expression. Trauma can disrupt emotion regulation flexibility, prompting individuals to adopt defensive patterns and reducing their capacity to cope with emotional stress adaptively. These findings highlight the complexity of emotion regulation shaped by traumatic experiences and provide a contextual understanding among early adult women who have experienced paternal violence. Keywords: childhood trauma, emotion regulation, early adult women, paternal abuse

Abstract

Indonesia’s multicultural context poses complex challenges for adolescents in constructing their identities, particularly due to unequal social and service conditions between urban and rural areas. Although multicultural counseling has been widely discussed, comparative studies examining contextual differences between urban and rural adolescents in Indonesia remain limited. This study aims to explore the role and strategies of multicultural counseling in addressing adolescent identity challenges across urban and rural settings in Sumatra Province. Using a qualitative descriptive design with a comparative case study approach, data were collected from 45 adolescents in Padang, Bukittinggi, Koto Tangah, and Datar through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis conducted between February and October 2024. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis following Braun and Clarke’s framework. The findings reveal distinct identity-related challenges across contexts, including a dual identity crisis and social pressure among urban adolescents, as well as access inequality and stigma as major barriers to counseling services in rural areas. These results indicate that adolescent identity challenges differ qualitatively across socio-cultural settings. This study concludes that multicultural counseling should be implemented through contextual and differential strategies tailored to urban and rural needs. Such approaches have important implications for developing community-based mental health counseling policies and services that are culturally responsive in Indonesia. Abstract

University students face increasing academic stress that demands strong self-regulation skills. Although time management and self-compassion have been widely studied separately, empirical studies examining their direct relationship within the Indonesian higher education context remain limited. This study aimed to examine the relationship between time management and self-compassion among psychology students. A quantitative correlational design was employed involving 133 active undergraduate psychology students from the 2022 cohort at Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Time Management Questionnaire (Britton & Tesser, 1991; α = 0.950) and the Self-Compassion Scale (Neff, 2003; α = 0.968). Due to non-normal data distribution, Spearman's Rho correlation analysis was conducted. The results revealed a very strong positive correlation between time management and self-compassion (r = 0.860, p < 0.01), with a coefficient of determination (r² = 0.739) indicating that 73.9% of the variance in self-compassion is associated with time management. These findings demonstrate that time management functions not merely as a technical academic skill but as a psychological foundation that supports students' self-compassion and academic resilience. Theoretically, this study bridges self-regulation theory and self-compassion theory within the Indonesian educational context. Practically, the findings underscore the importance of integrating time management and self-compassion training into university orientation programs and counseling services to enhance students' adaptive coping capacities and psychological well-being. Future research employing longitudinal or experimental designs is recommended to examine causal mechanisms and cross-cultural generalizability.
