Abstract

University students frequently encounter significant psychological distress stemming from academic demands, yet the specific predictors of their need for professional counseling services remain underexplored, particularly in under-resourced higher education contexts such as Papua, Indonesia. This study aimed to examine whether academic workload and academic burnout jointly and partially predict students' counseling needs at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Cenderawasih. A quantitative survey design was employed with a sample of 147 third-semester students selected through purposive sampling from 14 study programs. Data were collected using validated self-report instruments (Aiken's V = 0.952; α = 0.961) and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The regression model was significant, with both predictors jointly accounting for 24.9% of the variance in counseling needs (F = 24.038, p < .001, R² = 0.249). However, partial analysis revealed that only academic burnout emerged as a significant predictor (β = 0.467, p < .001), while academic workload was not statistically significant (β = 0.129, p = .078). Academic burnout, rather than workload per se, is the primary driver of students' counseling needs, suggesting that counseling interventions should prioritize burnout-specific strategies such as cognitive restructuring, stress management, and psychoeducation over workload reduction alone. These findings provide an empirical basis for designing targeted, evidence-based counseling services in higher education. Limitations include the cross-sectional design, reliance on self-report data, single-institution sampling, and a low response rate (14.7%), which may affect generalizability. Abstract

University life constitutes a critical developmental transition in which students, particularly those residing in dormitories, are exposed to multidimensional problems spanning personal, social, academic, and career-related domains. This descriptive quantitative study aimed to map the problems experienced by dormitory students at Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) and to draw implications for guidance and counseling services. A total of 315 students residing in the USK dormitory under the KIP-K scholarship scheme were selected through cluster sampling and assessed using the Alat Ungkap Masalah (AUM) UMUM Format 1 instrument, which has established validity (84%) and reliability (71%). Results indicated that 71% of respondents reported experiencing problems, whereas 29% reported no significant difficulties. Among the ten problem components, Career and Work (KDP) was the most dominant (22%), followed by Personal Self (17%), Physical and Health, and Family Relations (16% each), while Courtship and Marriage (2%) was the least reported. These findings underscore career anxiety and uncertainty about future employment as the most pressing concern among dormitory residents, consistent with Super's (1990) life-span career development theory. The study recommends integrating classical guidance, group guidance, seminars and workshops, and individual and group counseling into dormitory support programs. This research contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and Goal 4 (Quality Education) by informing evidence-based student support policies in higher education dormitory settings. Abstract

This study aims to improve prospective counselors' professional competence by implementing content mastery services based on action research. This research is important due to the complexity of social problems and clients' diverse cultural and religious backgrounds. The research was conducted in two cycles, with planning, action, observation, and reflection stages, encompassing theoretical training, counseling simulations, case discussions, and structured practice. The study subjects were students of the Islamic Guidance Counseling Study Program. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and reflection. The improvement focus was directed at six competency indicators: assessment of client needs, mastery of theory and practice, program design and implementation, service evaluation, and integration of Islamic values. The study results showed a significant increase in all indicators after implementing Cycle II. Students showed development in assessment skills, more systematic service implementation, and the ability to contextualize Islamic values in counseling practice. Content mastery services designed in a reflective, applicative, and value-based manner have proven effective in improving the professional competence of prospective Islamic counselors. These findings can be applied in counselor training in various Islamic educational institutions. Keywords: action research, content mastery services, professional competence

Abstract

Managing the dual responsibilities of teaching and household duties poses significant challenges for female elementary school teachers, influencing their psychological well-being and work-related behavior. This study examines how dual roles affect stress levels, professional commitment, and work experiences among married female teachers in Buol Regency. Using the AVEM (Work-related Behavior and Experience Patterns) Test, which consists of 66 items across eleven dimensions, data from 202 respondents show that “Striving for Perfection” emerged as the most dominant behavioral pattern. Interestingly, despite increased workload and stress potential, most teachers demonstrated high work commitment, life satisfaction, and strong social support. To the best of our knowledge, this study is among the first in Indonesia to apply the AVEM Test to map work-related behavior among dual-role female teachers, offering new insights into teacher well-being. The findings highlight the need for institutional and policy-level support to maintain balance between professional and domestic responsibilities. Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of Counseling Fitness (COUNSFIT) in improving self-imagery body ideal among children with autism by combining quantitative and qualitative approaches. The quantitative approach measured the percentage increase in scores before and after the intervention, while the qualitative approach described the process and behavioral changes during the program. The quantitative design used a pre-test, post-test, control-group design involving participants from an autism care community. The instrument was a validated self-imagery body ideal scale, while qualitative data were collected through structured observations and in-depth interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using paired sample t-tests and percentage gain calculations, whereas qualitative data were analyzed thematically. The findings revealed a significant 32% increase in the experimental group compared to the control (p < 0.05). Children also demonstrated higher self-confidence, active participation, and a more positive body perception. This study recommends COUNSFIT as a feasible service model in inclusive schools and special needs intervention centers. Abstract

The rapid growth of short-video platforms has transformed contemporary da’wah, especially on TikTok. This study examines digital da’wah as dialogic communication from a media psychology perspective, focusing on audience engagement. Using a qualitative design, it applies Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis to selected Muslimah influencer content and audience interactions, supported by digital observation, content documentation, comment analysis, and in-depth interviews (NVivo-assisted). This research fills a gap by integrating media psychology, CDA, and Islamic communication to explain how discursive strategies generate psychological engagement in digital da’wah. Findings identify three dialogic patterns affirmative dialogue (supportive alignment), reflective dialogue (self-evaluative negotiation of values), and contested dialogue (critical questioning and boundary-setting). Emotional engagement is dominated by empathy, moral reassurance, and motivational uplift, which drives cognitive involvement through self-reflection and gradual internalization of Islamic values. Cyclical creator–audience interactions also shape ongoing religious meaning-making and Muslimah identity construction. Practically, effective TikTok da’wah should prioritize empathetic framing, prompts for reflection, and responsive comment management to strengthen sustained engagement. Abstract

This study examines how adaptive leadership and organizational learning capability influence organizational performance through psychological empowerment within the context of regional development banking. Addressing a gap in the existing literature, this research integrates organizational culture as a moderating mechanism in the relationship between psychological empowerment and organizational performance, an aspect that has received limited empirical attention, particularly in regional development banks. Data were collected through a survey of 290 employees of PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Kalimantan Tengah (Bank Kalteng) using purposive sampling and analyzed with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results demonstrate that adaptive leadership and organizational learning capability positively affect psychological empowerment and organizational performance, while psychological empowerment mediates these relationships. Furthermore, organizational culture significantly moderates the effect of psychological empowerment on organizational performance, highlighting the importance of cultural alignment in translating employee empowerment into performance outcomes. Theoretically, this study contributes by extending leadership and organizational learning research through an integrative framework that incorporates psychological and cultural mechanisms in explaining organizational performance. Practically, the findings offer insights for managers and policymakers in regional development banks to enhance sustainable performance through adaptive leadership, learning-oriented practices, employee empowerment, and supportive organizational cultures. Abstract

The increasing incidence of child violence in the Special Capital Region of Jakarta highlights the need to understand the psychological mechanisms underlying parents’ abusive behavior. This study examined the psychosocial dynamics of parents who perpetrate child abuse using Abidin’s Parenting Stress Model as the theoretical framework. A mixed-methods phenomenological design was employed involving five parents of children aged 5-13 years who had engaged in abusive behavior. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, documentation, and psychological assessment using the Parenting Stress Scale (PSS) and Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-21). All participants (100%) demonstrated high to very high parenting stress (PSS = 42–50). Emotional stress was the dominant dimension (M = 24.0; severe to extremely severe). Parenting stress showed a very strong correlation with emotional stress (r = 0.86). Factor analysis revealed a single latent construct, Integrated Parenting Distress, explaining 78% of the variance. Qualitative findings indicated that violence emerged as a reactive caregiving response driven by emotional exhaustion, negative child perception, and intergenerational normalization of harsh discipline. Child abuse is therefore better understood as a manifestation of integrated psychological pressure within the parenting system rather than a reaction to child behavior alone. The findings support family-based preventive interventions emphasizing parental emotion regulation and inform urban child-protection policy development. Abstract

Research on the relation between happiness and work productivity has predominantly been conducted in urban private-sector settings, whereas studies focusing on civil servants in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost regions (3T areas) such as West Halmahera remain limited. This study aims to examine the relationship between happiness and work productivity among administrative civil servants at Office X in West Halmahera. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional correlational design was employed, involving 97 administrative employees selected through probability sampling based on the Krejcie and Morgan sample size table from a total population of 130 employees. Data were collected using the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (OHQ) and the Individual Work Performance Questionnaire (IWPQ), and analyzed using Pearson’s product–moment correlation. The findings revealed a very strong and statistically significant positive relation between happiness and work productivity (r = 0.803; p < 0.001). In addition, 100% of respondents were categorized as having high levels of happiness, and 99% demonstrated high levels of work productivity. These findings contribute to the development of industrial and organizational psychology literature within the public sector, particularly in 3T regions, and provide practical implications for local governments in designing strategies to enhance employee happiness and productivity in public service delivery. Keywords: civil servants, happiness, public service, work productivity, 3T regions
