Abstract

Environmental education for children is inseparable from the role of teachers in schools. However, challenges remain in providing children’s reading materials with environmental themes. In addition, the use of digital technology to support the illustration process is still limited. To address these challenges, artificial intelligence (AI) tools such as Midjourney can serve as an effective solution. Midjourney is an AI-based platform that facilitates the creation of high-quality illustrations for children’s storybooks. This community service program aimed to equip teachers with the skills to write children’s stories, particularly focusing on the environmental pillar of the SDGs, while also utilizing AI technology to produce engaging illustrations. The method employed was a participatory approach, which actively involved teachers in the training process of story writing and illustration development. The participants were engaged in determining story topics, preparing prompts for illustrations, and designing the layout of the draft book. As a result, out of 20 participants, 10 were selected for producing the best writings that met the criteria for children’s books. These selected teachers were also able to generate illustrations through Midjourney. Furthermore, questionnaire results indicated that 60% of participants “Agreed” and 40% “Strongly Agreed” that the program aligned with their teaching material needs and could be effectively utilized as a learning medium in schools. In conclusion, this program has tangible implications in enhancing the competencies of elementary school teachers in Pasuruan City to develop educational children’s reading materials. The teachers not only acquired technical skills but also learned to integrate SDG values into learning media in a creative way, thereby fostering contextual and enjoyable learning experiences for students.

Abstract

The cesarean section (CS) rate in Mataram City has reached 67.2%, far above the national average. This increase raises medical, social, and economic concerns, especially since many procedures are performed without clear medical indications. A key contributing factor is low health literacy among women of reproductive age, including limited understanding of childbirth options, fear of pain, misconceptions about safety, and lack of family support. This community service activity applied a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach in four stages: (1) problem identification with health centers, cadres, and women of reproductive age; (2) development of educational media in the form of leaflets and animated videos; (3) implementation through interactive lectures and discussions with 30 participants at Yarsi Mataram; and (4) participatory reflection and evaluation using pre–post tests. the findings showed an increase in average knowledge scores from 72.33 to 91.33. Beyond knowledge, participants also reported reduced fear of normal delivery, greater confidence in making childbirth decisions, and stronger commitment to seek support from health workers and families. This activity demonstrates that targeted health education can effectively improve both knowledge and attitudes toward childbirth. Replication is recommended in other areas with high CS rates, with cadres and community leaders trained as facilitators to ensure sustainability and wider impact.

Abstract

The community service program in the Sedari Village Mangrove Forest was implemented to address the limited utilization of digital technology in tourism promotion. Prior to the program, tourist visits averaged fewer than 60 per month, while the village’s promotional account received fewer than 10 interactions per post, indicating weak digital recognition and the need for stronger branding. This program aimed to strengthen community capacity through an integrated approach encompassing information technology, branding, and digital promotion. Information technology facilitated content management, branding established a distinctive identity for the mangrove tourism village, and digital promotion effectively disseminated this identity across online platforms. Key activities included developing an official tourism website, providing mentoring on branding that emphasized local characteristics, and collaborating with influencers to expand market reach. The results demonstrated that the website attracted 5,600 visits within two months of launch, while branding support enhanced partners’ ability to design logos, brochures, and social media content. Furthermore, influencer collaboration significantly increased engagement and improved the village’s public image. Overall, the program contributed to community-based sustainable tourism by improving digital literacy, fostering active community participation, creating additional income opportunities, and enhancing awareness of mangrove conservation.

Abstract

The development of skipjack chili sauce products has proven to be an innovative solution for improving the economy of coastal communities, particularly in Gebangan Village. This study employs the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, engaging the community in the entire process of production, marketing, and evaluation. The findings indicate that the implementation of digital marketing strategies via WhatsApp, Instagram, and TikTok increased sales by 40% within the first two months. Additionally, the average monthly income of participants increased by IDR 750,000 - IDR 1,200,000, and 15 housewives, who previously had no steady income, are now actively involved in the production and marketing of skipjack chili sauce. In terms of product quality, using glass bottles for packaging extended the product's shelf life to 45 days under cold storage conditions. However, challenges remain in digital literacy, limited access to capital, and fluctuations in raw material prices. Thus, further training in business management and digital marketing strategies is necessary to ensure the sustainability of this local product-based business. This research contributes to an economic empowerment model based on fishery resources, which can be adapted to other coastal communities.

Abstract

This community engagement program was initiated to address the managerial limitations, low competitiveness, and dependence on conventional practices experienced by the Izzalia sewing group in Maibit Village, Tuban. The group was selected as the object of service because it represents one of the largest local sewing businesses with high potential but was hindered by limited knowledge in marketing, financial management, and supply chain organization. These conditions created an urgent need for systematic interventions to enhance their sustainability and competitiveness. The program introduced a technology-based business management system to facilitate concrete transitions: from manual bookkeeping to digital accounting applications, and from offline promotion to online marketing platforms. The main objective was to strengthen the group’s capacity and economic independence through structured training and mentoring in modern marketing, financial management, and supply chain operations.Using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, the program was implemented through stages of assessment, program design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. Evaluation with the CIPP model (Context, Input, Process, Product) demonstrated effectiveness in the first three aspects, while refinement is still required in the product dimension, particularly the development of a raw material database. Overall, the training not only increased participants’ knowledge but also accelerated their adoption of digital accounting systems and e-commerce platforms. This transition significantly improved efficiency, expanded market reach, and reflected the group’s readiness to sustain technology-based practices.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play an important role in supporting rural economies, yet many traditional products remain underdeveloped due to weak branding and limited digital marketing. This community engagement program aimed to transform Brondong Ketan in Ngumpak Hamlet through branding and packaging innovation based on the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach. The primary problems faced by partners were low monthly turnover (Rp 300,000–500,000), unattractive packaging, and reliance on local distribution channels. The program was implemented collaboratively in five stages—discovery, dream, design, define, and destiny—through activities such as branding workshops, co-creation of new batik-accented packaging, and digital promotion using WhatsApp Business. The results demonstrated a significant improvement: average monthly revenue increased up to ±Rp 1,250,000 (around 300% growth), with about 25% of customers from outside the village and 20% of sales made through WhatsApp. Furthermore, an informal working group was established, and a local champion actively facilitated collective marketing, coordinated production, and promoted digital advocacy among producers. These outcomes indicate that asset-based empowerment fosters sustainable innovation, strengthens cultural identity, and enhances MSME competitiveness in broader markets.

Abstract

The Microtechnique Competency Development Program at SMA Negeri 1 Remboken was designed to strengthen teacher and student skills in preparing microscopic slides as instructional media for biology learning. A preliminary assessment in 2024 showed that laboratory facilities were underutilized, with only 28% of scheduled biology practical sessions fully implemented, while most activities remained lecture-based. Furthermore, a competency evaluation involving 30 students and 6 teachers revealed that fewer than 35% demonstrated adequate microtechnique skills, particularly in preparing and observing biological specimens. These findings highlighted the urgency of providing systematic training to optimize laboratory use. The program adopted the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, mobilizing local assets such as teacher-student enthusiasm, available laboratory equipment, and institutional knowledge. The implementation process consisted of asset mapping, technical training, collaborative mentoring, and the development of a Problem-Based Learning (PjBL)-based teaching module. Training activities focused on three core microtechnique practices: squash preparations of onion (Allium cepa) and garlic (Allium sativum) root tips for mitosis observation, wholemount preparation of head lice (Pediculus humanus capitis), and chicken blood smear (Gallus sp.) slides.Program evaluation demonstrated measurable improvement, with mean scores increasing from 45 (pre-test) to 72.5 (post-test). A paired-sample t-test confirmed the improvement was statistically significant (p < 0.05). In total, 55 slides were produced, of which 37 met the criteria of “educationally viable,” defined by specimen clarity, staining quality, and suitability for classroom use. Beyond technical skill enhancement, the program fostered collaborative culture and strengthened the laboratory’s role as a hub for educational innovation and creative economy development..
