Abstract

The low level of understanding and skills among MSME actors in building product branding is one of the factors weakening business competitiveness, especially in terms of visual identity and packaging. This has the potential to hamper business continuity. This condition is experienced by the UPPKS Lestari Jaya group in Bantul, Yogyakarta, most of whose businesses do not yet have logos, packaging designs, or focused branding strategies, making it difficult for them to compete in a wider market. This community service program aims to improve the capacity of MSME players in designing products and services with selling value. The implementation methods include needs analysis, practice-based training, mentoring, and evaluation. The activity was attended by 20 business actors with business categories including processed foods, fashion products, and household services. The program results showed that all participants successfully produced branding outputs in the form of 20 business logos, product packaging designs, and visual identities that matched the characteristics of their respective businesses. The evaluation of the results showed an increase in the visual quality of the businesses in terms of brand identity clarity, design suitability, and visual appeal. This community service program has had an impact on improving the readiness of partner MSMEs to market their products and services more competitively and has become the basis for sustainable business development.

Abstract

This community engagement program was implemented by a team of lecturers and students from Darma Cendika Catholic University in collaboration with PERWAKOS (the Surabaya Association of Transgender Women). The program aimed to promote economic empowerment among transgender women by identifying entrepreneurial potential, examining structural barriers, and formulating realistic recommendations for sustainable livelihood development. The findings indicate that all participants expressed strong interest in engaging in small-scale entrepreneurial activities, particularly in the beauty, retail, and culinary sectors. However, this interest was constrained by several challenges, including limited financial literacy, lack of prior business experience, low levels of intra-community trust, and persistent social stigma. The program produced several tangible outputs, including a documented needs assessment involving 20 community members, the identification of priority business sectors, and consensus-based recommendations for future capacity-building initiatives. Based on these findings, the program recommends that subsequent community engagement efforts prioritize basic financial management training, structured business plan development, and psychosocial support to enhance self-confidence and collective commitment. In addition, facilitating access to inclusive microfinance schemes and strengthening partnerships with supportive institutions are essential to addressing structural barriers. Overall, this program demonstrates that context-sensitive community engagement can serve as an effective foundation for fostering economic self-reliance and organizational strengthening within marginalized transgender communities.

Abstract

This community service program was implemented at the Sabilus Salam Sharia Cooperative, Notorejo Hamlet, Wonosalam District, Jombang Regency, East Java. It involved 25 farmers and 10 cooperative members, and was facilitated by a service team consisting of four lecturers and one master’s (S2) student. The uniqueness of this program lies in the utilization of kascing (earthworm castings) based on the local wisdom of Wonosalam, integrated with the use of local organic waste and the strengthening of cooperative institutions through a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach. This distinguishes the program from conventional organic fertilizer training, which is typically one-directional. The objective of the activity was to enhance farmers’ capacity to produce and apply both liquid and solid organic fertilizers based on kascing, in order to reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers and improve soil quality. The methods employed included socialization, participatory training, field assistance, and experimental demonstration plots. Standardized laboratory test results indicated an increase in soil pH from 3.25 to 5.42, organic carbon (C-organic) from 0.23% to 0.53%, as well as improvements in the levels of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Post-training evaluation showed that 84% of participants understood the stages of kascing fertilizer production, and 72% had applied it on their respective farms. Overall, the program proved effective in measurably improving soil quality and strengthening the independence of farmers and the cooperative in developing sustainable agriculture based on local resources..

Abstract

Bulungcangkring Village in Jekulo District, Kudus Regency, has strong agricultural potential, with most residents working as farmers. Some have begun cultivating non-rice commodities such as pumpkin and purple sweet potato, which offer opportunities for value-added processing and increased income. KUB Elbina, a 20-member local enterprise group, focuses on processing these agricultural products, especially pumpkin flour. However, the group faces technological limitations, particularly in post-harvest drying, which is still done through open sun drying. This method requires ±24 hours, yields only ~70%, depends heavily on weather, and poses contamination risks from dust, insects, and microorganisms, resulting in inconsistent product quality, including non-uniform flour color. This community service program implements an IoT-based Ecobox Smart Dryer as an appropriate technology to improve processing efficiency and product quality using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach. Activities include problem identification, equipment installation, training, production assistance, and evaluation. The results show significant improvements: drying time reduced to ±8 hours, yield increased to ~90%, moisture content stabilized at ≤10%, and flour color became more uniform. The program outputs include a fully functioning Smart Dryer, enhanced production capacity, improved product quality, and strengthened operator skills.

Abstract

This Community Service Program was implemented at SMKS Bumi Moro, Pulau Morotai Regency, a school located in a frontier, outermost, and underdeveloped (3T) region. The school was selected due to its limited telecommunication infrastructure, which has significantly constrained the implementation of digital learning. An initial survey revealed that the school relied on a single unstable internet access point, had only 12 active computers for approximately 180 students, and most teachers lacked experience in independently operating a Learning Management System (LMS). These conditions highlighted the urgent need for technological intervention. The program adopted a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach consisting of four stages: (1) needs analysis through online surveys and interviews with the school principal and 20 teachers; (2) design and implementation of a local Content Delivery Network (CDN) integrated with Starlink-based internet connectivity; (3) training and mentoring on Moodle LMS utilization and the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in learning; and (4) evaluation of program effectiveness. The training involved 30 participants, including 20 teachers and 10 educational staff members. Evaluation using a Likert-scale questionnaire (1–5) showed that 70% of participants were very satisfied and 30% were satisfied, with average scores ranging from 4.6 to 4.9. Post-program observations indicated improved teacher capacity in managing digital classes, conducting online assessments, and utilizing stable internet access. Overall, the program successfully strengthened digital learning infrastructure and teacher competence, offering a replicable model for other schools in 3T regions in Indonesia.

Abstract

This community service program addresses a critical gap: low tax compliance among culinary micro and small enterprises (MSMEs) in Malang City, which restricts access to finance and weakens local revenue. We aimed to improve bookkeeping literacy and tax compliance through an integrated intervention—classroom instruction (tax fundamentals), hands-on simple bookkeeping, guided use of a tax application (Coretax), and mentoring—for 15 MSME owners. Effectiveness was assessed using pre–post knowledge tests, observation checklists of bookkeeping practices, and application usage logs as compliance indicators. Results show a marked increase in knowledge and self-efficacy (mean Likert score 2.7→4.2). Adoption of basic/digital bookkeeping improved: 85% of participants began daily transaction recording and separated business–personal finances. Most participants were able to compute and file taxes using the application, and post-training compliance reached 66.7% (10 of 15) based on verified filings within the evaluation period. The bookkeeping model promoted includes a daily cash book, separation of business and personal accounts, and simple records of inventory and production costs as the basis for tax calculation. These findings indicate that coupling financial literacy with accessible technology can shift administrative behavior and improve compliance. Replication should include follow-up mentoring and partnerships with local authorities to sustain results

Abstract

This community engagement program empowered rural public elementary school teachers in Grati Subdistrict, Pasuruan Regency, East Java, to develop local wisdom-based literacy media using the folktale The Origin of Lake Ranu Grati. This location was selected because the partner schools are close to Lake Ranu Grati and the folktale remains a living oral tradition, yet it has not been used systematically as classroom material. The program responded to needs identified in an initial assessment: limited integration of local cultural content in learning (86%) and limited creative writing and digital media competence (78%). Using a participatory empowerment method, the program was implemented through five connected stages: outreach to identify needs and agree on outputs, training with mentoring to build skills, monitoring to ensure implementation progress, evaluation to measure impact, and continuation to support sustainability through a teacher forum and school literacy agendas. Teachers wrote three-paragraph short stories (pentigraf) based on the folktale and then transformed the texts into multimodal literacy media, including comics, an interactive e-book, and short animations for classroom use. Evaluation using rubrics and questionnaires showed an average 90% improvement in pentigraf writing skills and an 85% increase in teachers’ use of local potential as teaching media, alongside observable practice changes such as consistent drafting and revision through feedback cycles and greater initiative to create and use culture-based media in lessons. The main outputs were published as an ISBN and E-ISBN anthology and e-book titled Kisah Yang Tumbuh Dari Danau.

Abstract

Stunting remains a chronic nutritional problem among under-five children, closely associated with inadequate intake of animal-based protein and limited access to nutritious food at the household level. In Bareng Village, Sawahan District, Nganjuk Regency, data from Posyandu Mambang in 2025 revealed 12 stunted children, 37 undernourished children, and 22 children with no weight gain, accompanied by low egg consumption. This community service program aimed to improve the availability and intake of animal protein among under-five children by utilizing local potential through small-scale household laying-hen farming integrated with an egg-sharing (arisan telur) mechanism at Posyandu Mambang. The program was implemented from March to November 2025 using an Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, including training on laying-hen management, distribution of laying hens to target families, and optimization of the egg-sharing system. Evaluation results showed that the average weekly egg consumption among children increased from 1.1 eggs at baseline to 2.4 eggs in October 2025 and reached 3.2 eggs by November 2025. The proportion of children consuming at least three eggs per week increased from 16% to 68%. In addition, the program enhanced the knowledge and skills of families and community health volunteers in poultry management and nutrition education. In conclusion, integrating an egg-sharing system with household laying-hen farming based on local resources is effective in gradually and sustainably increasing animal protein intake among under-five children and has the potential to support stunting prevention efforts in rural areas.

Abstract

Sustainable tourism development requires community-based management of tourism villages that is grounded in local potential. Sewu Kembang Tourism Village faces challenges related to weak institutional capacity, limited human resources, and suboptimal utilisation of tourism assets. This community service programme aims to strengthen tourism village governance through a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, which positions the community as the main actor throughout the intervention process. The PAR method was implemented through four iterative stages: participatory problem identification and potential mapping, collaborative action planning, action implementation through training and technical assistance, and participatory reflection and evaluation. The programme involved local communities, Pokdarwis, village government, and universities as collaborative partners. The findings indicate significant improvements in human resource capacity, institutional strengthening of Pokdarwis, and increased community participation in tourism management. These improvements were measured through pre- and post-tests, performance observations, and the application of newly acquired skills in destination management practices. The results demonstrate that PAR is an effective approach for fostering community empowerment and supporting the sustainability of tourism village development.

Abstract

Psychosocial support among students is urgent because low mental health literacy can have an impact on mental and emotional health disorders. The lack of sharia-based financial planning literacy in students can create double vulnerabilities both managerial and psychological that have a direct impact on mental health. The integration of psychosocial support, mental health literacy, sharia-based financial planning literacy, and adolescent identity search forms a protective mechanism that simultaneously strengthens family resilience. This community service using psychosocial guidance and structured sharia-based financial planning literacy session methods that invite participants to explore the challenges of today's families and students, understand the order of personal values, recognize their strengths and weaknesses, and how students can plan their finances from an early age, held at the An-Nahdloh Islamic boarding school, Selangor Malaysia. Data collection was carried out through pre and post-test assessments, including observations, interviews and questionnaires to measure the level of understanding of personal conditions and financial literacy. The result of this service is that 85% of students increase their understanding; have a clear self-concept, have values that are a guideline for life and increase their capacity in terms of financial planning based on sharia principles. Psychosocial support as an external stimulus serves to optimize adolescent mental health literacy, which provides a cognitive scheme to manage emotional turmoil during the identity search crisis phase to remain oriented towards adaptive values. The presence of sharia-based financial planning literacy complements the process by providing an ethical-practical framework in resource management that is in line with the principles of monotheism, thereby reducing financial and existential conflicts which ultimately create functional synergy between family members as the main indicator of comprehensive family resilience.
