Abstract

Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects face complex challenges such as multidisciplinary coordination, tight schedules, material procurement risks, and design change dynamics, which require the crucial role of Construction Management Consultants (CMCs) in ensuring the achievement of time, cost, and quality targets. This study analyzes the influence of expert competence, quality management, and communication on CMC performance in the coal processing facility construction project in Tanjung Enim, South Sumatra. The study employs a quantitative approach using research instruments developed based on indicators of expert competence, quality management, and communication. Instrument validation was conducted using item analysis with Pearson's product-moment correlation coefficient, while reliability was measured using Cronbach's Alpha coefficient. Data were analyzed using partial correlation and multiple regression techniques. The results of the study indicate: (1) Expert competence has a significant positive effect on KMK performance (ry1 = 0.377 > 0) with the regression equation Ŷ = 19.843 + 0.144 X1; (2) Quality management has a significant effect (ry2 = 0.543 > 0) with the equation Ŷ = 19.040 + 0.174 X2; (3) Communication makes an important contribution (ry3 = 0.471 > 0) with the equation Ŷ = 19.590 + 0.152 X3. Multiple regression analysis shows that the three variables together explain 82% of the variance in performance (ry123 = 0.9272 > 0) with the equation Ŷ = 3.9547 + 0.200 × X1 + 0.1995 × X2 + 0.2237 × X3. These findings confirm that the performance of construction management consultants on EPC projects is significantly influenced by expert competence, quality management, and communication. The study recommends the need for standardization of competencies, implementation of an integrated quality management system, and development of an effective communication model to improve the performance of CMC on similar projects.

Abstract

This study aims to optimize the Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) system at Bandung State Polytechnic as a strategy for water resource conservation and strengthening the Green Campus concept. The research was conducted by identifying the existing condition of the RWH system at 25 campus building points, analyzing hydrological potential using BMKG rainfall data from 2014–2024, as well as evaluating efficiency and developing technical optimization recommendations. The existing RWH system is dominated by tanks with a capacity of 1,050–2,000 liters, which do not yet function optimally due to limited capacity, channel blockages, and variations in pipe diameter. The analysis shows an average annual rainfall of 2,831 mm with a potential rainwater catchment of up to 70 m³ per month, sufficient to meet 25–30% of the campus's non-potable water demand. System optimization is proposed by increasing tank capacity to 5,000–10,000 liters, using 3–4 inch pipes, and implementing multi-layer filtration and automated control, thus increasing system efficiency to 40–60%. The integrated system prototype in classrooms and laboratories has been proven to reduce PDAM water consumption by 40% and surface runoff by up to 35%. The research outcomes support the achievement of UI GreenMetric water conservation indicators and contribute to the realization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) points 6 and 13. This study provides recommendations for an adaptive RWH system replication model for other educational institutions in Indonesia to manage water resources sustainably and efficiently.

Abstract

Inundation on Jalan Raya Kemang (the Parung-Bogor road section in the Kemang area) is a common problem, especially during the high-intensity rainy season, disrupting public mobility and causing traffic congestion. This study aims to identify the factors causing the inundation and to evaluate the existing conditions of the drainage network system in the area. The methods used include hydrological and hydraulic analysis. Hydrological analysis is utilized to calculate the design flood discharge, while hydraulic analysis is used to analyze the capacity of the existing drainage channels. The results of the hydrological analysis show that the total design flood discharge from upstream to downstream is 1.08 m³/s. The hydraulic analysis on the existing channel dimensions of (1.2 x 1) meters indicates a channel capacity of 1.51 m³/s. Theoretically, the channel dimensions are capable of accommodating the design discharge. However, field observations show that the main factor causing the inundation is the presence of mud and sand sedimentation, approximately 30 cm high, inside the channels. This sedimentation causes a significant reduction in flow capacity. After accounting for the sedimentation, the channel capacity decreases to 0.962 m³/s, which is smaller than the design discharge at the inundation point (0.977 m³/s), causing water to overflow onto the road. Furthermore, the lack of drainage inlets is also a contributing factor to the inundation. It is concluded that the inundation on Jalan Raya Kemang is not caused by inadequate channel dimensions but rather by high sedimentation and a lack of drainage inlets

Abstract

Project delays in construction are complex issues that have a significant impact on increasing costs and completion time. This study aims to analyze the optimal project acceleration strategy for the construction of the Engineering Laboratory Building (GLT) 4 at ITERA, which is experiencing delays, by applying the Time Cost Trade Off (TCTO) method. This quantitative research compares three alternative acceleration strategies: adding working hours (overtime), adding work shifts, and adding labor and heavy equipment. Primary data was obtained through interviews with the contractor, while secondary data included the time schedule, the Budget Plan (RAB), and other project documents. The analysis was conducted by compiling a critical work network, calculating normal duration and costs, and analyzing the crash duration and crash cost for each alternative. The results show that the project's normal condition has a duration of 224 days with a total cost of Rp 16,927,594,301. All three acceleration strategies proved effective in reducing both duration and cost. The strategy of adding labor and heavy equipment proved to be the most optimal, resulting in a duration of 163 days (time efficiency of 27.23%) with the highest cost efficiency of 5.75%. The alternative of adding work shifts resulted in the fastest duration of 161 days (time efficiency of 28.13%), but with lower cost efficiency (4.92%). Meanwhile, adding overtime hours was the weakest alternative with a duration of 178 days (time efficiency of 20.54%) and a cost efficiency of 3.51%. The research confirms that adding resources (labor and equipment) provides the most beneficial time-cost trade-off for this project, where the indirect cost savings from shortening the heavy equipment rental period are greater than the additional direct costs.

Abstract

In the Cijurey Dam Package I conduit construction project, formwork technology is an important aspect because it is entirely the responsibility of the contractor, so the implementation risks need to be minimized. Initially, the concrete casting method used conventional formwork that was made directly at the project site. However, developments in the construction world demand more efficient methods, leading to the emergence of alternatives such as the use of prefabricated formwork. One type used is sliding formwork. This study aims to evaluate the cost and time effectiveness between conventional formwork and sliding formwork, as well as analyze the reasons for their selection in the Cijurey Dam Package I conduit work. The research method was carried out by calculating the estimated cost and duration of conventional formwork, then comparing the results with the data on the use of sliding formwork in the project. The results show that the Cijurey Dam Package I Construction Project used sliding formwork at a cost of Rp 185.185,00 per square meter, with a cost difference of Rp 342.819.286,34 or about 12,37% cheaper than the calculation using conventional formwork, which averaged - average of Rp 211.332,06. In addition to cost and time considerations, sliding formwork has a faster construction time of 2 hours per tunnel block conduit compared to conventional formwork.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of road user satisfaction on three access roads leading to educational areas in North Toraja Regency, namely the Rantepao–Palopo, Rantepao–Sa’dan–Batusitanduk, and Rantepao–Bolu corridors. Data were collected through questionnaires administered to 312 respondents who actively use these routes. The research instrument was tested using validity and reliability tests, and all variables were found to be valid and reliable. Descriptive analysis revealed variations in user perceptions across road classes. The Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) was employed to measure overall satisfaction and indicated that the national road section achieved the highest satisfaction score, followed by the provincial and district roads. Multiple linear regression analysis was conducted to determine which service attributes significantly influenced user satisfaction. The results show that, for the provincial road, traffic flow, environmental comfort, and traffic management significantly influenced satisfaction, while for the district road, pavement condition and traffic flow were the primary determinants. Importance–Performance Analysis (IPA) was used to identify priority improvements for each road section, demonstrating that different strategies are needed depending on the characteristics of each road class and user perception. The findings of this study are expected to support decision-making and planning efforts aimed at improving road service quality in educational access areas in North Toraja.

Abstract

This study evaluates the compaction level of mountain-excavated rock fill used as subgrade material on the Probolinggo–Banyuwangi Toll Road, package 3B (STA 23+925–STA 25+550), using the water replacement method. The analysis was conducted by comparing in-situ density with the maximum laboratory dry density to determine the Compaction Ratio (CR) as an indicator of compaction performance. The results from testing on 22 locations indicate CR values ranging from 101.1% to 103.9%, with an average of 102.52%, confirming that field compaction was effective, homogeneous, and exceeded the minimum Standard Proctor requirement (≥100%). The material moisture content was close to the Optimum Moisture Content (OMC), while the predominance of 50–60 cm rock sizes promoted effective particle interlocking. This condition resulted in a stable and dense subgrade with high bearing capacity under traffic loading. These findings confirm the technical feasibility of utilizing locally sourced excavated rock as subgrade fill material, providing a scientific basis for material efficiency, resource optimization, and enhanced quality of toll road construction

Abstract

Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) is a crucial aspect in construction projects, which are characterized by a high risk of workplace accidents. Improving OSH performance requires effective implementation of the Occupational Safety and Health Management System (OSHMS) as well as continuous control mechanisms. This study aims to analyze the effect of OSHMS implementation and control on OSH performance in construction projects. A quantitative approach was employed using a survey method by distributing questionnaires to respondents directly involved in construction project activities. The collected data were analyzed using the Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method. The results indicate that OSHMS implementation has a positive and significant effect on OSH performance. In addition, OSHMS control also has a positive and significant effect on OSH performance, although its influence is lower than that of OSHMS implementation. These findings suggest that the implementation and control of OSHMS are complementary aspects in improving OSH performance in construction projects.
