Abstract

Introduction: Common adolescent behaviors such as consuming fast food, high-sugar beverages, lack of physical activity, and excessive screen time are major contributing factors to the emergence of CVD among youth. Early detection of risk factors during adolescence is essential to prevent the progression of CVD later in life. Objective: This study aims to describe CVD risk factors among high school students. Method: A descriptive design, data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 162 twelfth-grade students at a public senior high school in Tasikmalaya, using accidental sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency and percentage). Result: The average age was 17 years, with the majority being female (63%). A total of 89.5% of respondents lived in urban areas, 63% showed a tendency toward light physical activity, 58.6% consumed junk food 1–2 times per week, 18.5% had a smoking habit, and 63% experienced significant stress. Conclusion: These findings indicate that adolescents' current lifestyle is prone to CVD risk factors. Integrated interventions through health education in school and family environments are necessary to raise awareness of the importance of a balanced diet, adequate physical activity, and effective stress management to prevent the future development of CVD.

Abstract

Neurodegenerative diseases, characterized by progressive neuron loss, present a significant global health challenge. Recent research highlights the role of genetic expression in these diseases, with lifestyle interventions, such as dietary changes, shown to influence gene expression linked to neurodegeneration. One promising approach is intermittent fasting (IF), a dietary method alternating fasting and eating periods, which affects biological processes like cellular repair, inflammation, and metabolism. Emerging evidence suggests IF may also alter gene expression related to neurodegenerative diseases, potentially reducing risk and slowing progression. This review examines current studies on the impact of IF on gene expression in neurodegeneration, exploring its mechanisms and implications for new therapeutic and preventive strategies.

Abstract

Hypertension in pregnancy is a leading cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality, contributing to 10% of global pregnancies and 412 maternal deaths in Indonesia in 2023. Proper management through medication and lifestyle changes is essential, but adherence remains low due to misinformation, fear of medication effects, and limited healthcare access. This study aimed to identify medication adherence and lifestyle modification in pregnant women with hypertension. A cross-sectional design was used with stratified random sampling. Data were collected through a validated questionnaire and analyzed descriptively. Results showed that 80.7% of respondents had high medication adherence and 77.2% had high lifestyle modifications. Significant associations were found between parity (p=0.042), history of hypertension (p=0.01), and ANC frequency (p=0.008) with medication adherence. Similarly, lifestyle modification was significantly associated with parity (p = 0.003), a history of hypertension (p = 0.000), and ANC frequency (p = 0.001). Multivariate analysis showed that ANC frequency predicted medication adherence (p=0.028), while history of hypertension predicted lifestyle modification (p=0.035). In conclusion, most pregnant women demonstrated high adherence levels. However, continuous health education, counseling, and family support are essential to maintain optimal maternal outcomes and reduce the risks associated with hypertensive disorders during pregnancy. Keywords : Hypertension, pregnancy, medication adherence, lifestyle modification.

Abstract

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 12% of children worldwide, or over 450 million, had mental retardation in 2019, and that number is expected to rise to 15% by 2020 (Schalock & Luckasson, 2021), As per the Special Education Statistics of Indonesia for the year 2019–2020, 144,102 individuals, or 56% of the population, were enrolled in both public and private special schools. With 12,007 children, Central Java Province comes in second (Pusdatin Kemendikbud Indonesia, 2020). In 2020, the Grobogan Regency had a population density of 736 persons per km³, and 1,596 of those children had intellectual disabilities (Central Java Village Information System, 2022). Objective: to use shaping techniques to assess how much mentally retarded children's self-development education has become more independent. Research methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design involving 45 children with intellectual disabilities. Results show a significant improvement in independence after intervention, with independence scores increasing from 55.6% to 75.6% (p < 0.05).” Conclusion: The effectiveness of modeling methods and engineering in guiding the self-development of mentally retarded children toward independence

Abstract

Wound is a state of damage to body tissue caused by animal bites, scratchessharp objects. A rapid wound healing process is expected. Papaya leaf is effective as a wound healer, the use of extracts directly on the skin is not practical and optimal. In order to be practical and effective, it is formulated in the form of ointment preparations. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of papaya leaf (Carica papaya L.) ethanol extract ointment preparation in healing cut wounds in New Zealand white rabbits made in the form of ointment preparations. The extract was given with different concentrations of 5%, 10% and 15%. The ointment preparation was tested on test animals with a wound length of 2 cm. The positive control used was povidone iodine, while the negative control used ointment bases namely adeps lanae and vaseline album. The data were analyzed statistically using ANOVA (Analysis of Variant). Based on the results of the research that has been done, the concentration of papaya leaf ethanol extract ointment that is most effective in healing cuts is at a concentration of 15%.

Abstract

Cough and cold in infants are common health issues caused by viral infections in the upper respiratory tract, which negatively affect the baby's quality of life. Massage therapy has been applied to relieve these symptoms, but many mothers still lack understanding about common cold massage and how to care for their babies when experiencing cough and cold. Most mothers tend to rely on applying telon oil or taking their babies to healthcare facilities for treatment. Massage has been practiced for centuries across the world. It can have a positive effect on the body and bring about beneficial physiological changes that can be measured scientifically. This study aims to determine the effect of an intervention on the participants' knowledge, as well as to examine the distribution of respondents based on education and age. The research used a quantitative method with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The paired t-test showed a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores (p < 0.05). Most respondents had a senior high school education level (73.08%) and were aged 21–30 years (61.54%). These findings indicate that common cold massage is effective in improving mothers' understanding of how to manage cough and cold in infants, making it a valuable educational alternative in child care. Thus, the right approach can lead to meaningful change.
