Abstract

Stroke causes disability and weakness, resulting in decreased functional ability. Palliative care is actively provided for stroke sufferers in the terminal phase. The majority of stroke clients experience residual symptoms such as paralysis, slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, difficulty speaking, and inability to understand other people's speech. The prolonged illness or the difficulty of recovering as usual creates stressors for both the patient and the family caring for them. The aim of this activity is to provide accurate information regarding post-stroke patient care by empowering palliative care health cadres (KAK LIA). This activity employs a participant active learning approach, where participants actively engage in training and mentoring activities. The methods used include lectures, question and answer sessions, and practical exercises. The activity consists of six stages: preparation, initial intervention, internal intervention, final intervention, mentoring, and evaluation. The result of this community service activity was an increase in participants' knowledge, with the majority shifting from poor knowledge (75%) to very good (90%).

Abstract

The workload of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) has a significant impact on both physical and psychological health. One consequential issue is the prevalence of chronic kidney failure (CKD) among PMI in Ponorogo who undergo hemodialysis (HD). PMI often remain unaware of whether their behaviors in migrant countries contribute to CKD. This community service initiative aims to educate PMI about behaviors that pose a risk of causing CKD. The service activities unfold in three stages. The first stage involves a presentation on psychology, followed by an explanation regarding health, and concluding with a discussion. The outcome of this initiative is an increase in knowledge among prospective PMIs regarding both health and psychology. Knowledge about CKD increased by 30%, motivation saw a 14% increase, social support rose by 34%, and there was a 39% increase in support for a healthy living environment. These findings suggest that prospective PMIs can better prepare themselves for work in migrant countries by prioritizing attention to both physical and psychological health, even amidst lifestyle differences.

The implementation method of this service includes training, mentoring, and in-depth monitoring to raise awareness about the importance of quality meat as a significant protein source for families. Additionally, it fosters independence and creativity in animal food processing, paving the way for the formation of entrepreneurial partnerships and preparing individuals to initiate businesses. This community service program is executed in collaboration with the Housing and Settlement Service and the West Java Province Housing Management and Services UPTD.
