Abstract

This study aims to improve students' learning outcomes on the underhand serve technique in volleyball through a modified game approach in physical education (PE) classes at SMP Negeri 47 Surabaya. The main issue addressed is the low motivation and skill level of students in performing the underhand serve, caused by the lack of variation in teaching methods and the use of inappropriate equipment. This classroom action research (CAR) was conducted in two cycles involving 30 eighth-grade students from class VIII A. The modification applied involved using plastic balls instead of standard volleyballs to make it easier for students to master the underhand serve technique. Data were collected through tests, observation, and documentation, and analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ learning outcomes, with mastery learning increasing from 73.31% in cycle I to 93.34% in cycle II. The use of modified games proved effective in increasing students' motivation, participation, and skills in learning the underhand serve in volleyball. Therefore, the modified game approach can serve as an innovative solution to improve learning outcomes in PE, particularly in volleyball material

Abstract

This article presents a literature review that aims to explore the role of physical education philosophy in shaping character and improving students' health degrees. Physical education is not solely aimed at developing physical aspects, but also contains self-development values that include moral, social, and emotional dimensions. Through a philosophical approach, physical education is seen as a vehicle for the formation of a whole and balanced human being. This study was conducted by examining various scientific sources, such as reference books, journal articles, and relevant research reports. The results of the search show that values such as sportsmanship, discipline, responsibility, and cooperation, are clearly contained in the practice of physical education. These values contribute directly to the formation of students' attitudes and characters. On the other hand, targeted and sustained physical activity also has a positive impact on students' physical fitness and mental health. Thus, it can be concluded that the philosophy of physical education has a strategic role in supporting character formation and improving the quality of life of students. Understanding this philosophical basis is important for educators to have, in order to ensure that the learning process takes place thoroughly and is valuable

Abstract

Age 0 - 8 years is the golden age. In this age the child's brain is like a sponge, which is all things that are seen, heard, and felt by children absorbed well by the child. Therefore at this time the child must get the right stimulation in every aspect of his development. One aspect that must be stimulated is gross motoric. This aspect relates to the child's ability to move the large parts of his body, such as the hands and feet. Some activities that can be given to children related to gross motoric skills are jumping, walking, running, and throwing a ball. The disruption of the development of gross motoric aspects in children can affect the development to other aspects. Therefore, the gross motoric aspect must be the one of teachers and parents' concerns as a result the child's development tasks can be achieved according to his age.
