Abstract

Abstract This study analyzes the phonetic differences in the pronunciation of the letters Qaaf (ق) and Jiim (ج) in the Egyptian and Saudi Arabic dialects. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the research draws data from audiovisual sources such as popular songs and YouTube videos featuring native speakers. The findings reveal that in Egyptian Arabic, Qaaf is frequently realized as a glottal stop (/ʔ/), and Jiim as a voiced velar stop (/g/). In contrast, in Saudi Arabic, both letters tend to retain their Classical Arabic pronunciation: /q/ for Qaaf and /d͡ʒ/ for Jiim. These phonetic differences are not merely articulatory; they also carry sociolinguistic significance, reflecting social identity, formality level, and cultural values. This research contributes to modern Arabic language learning by emphasizing the importance of understanding dialectal variation in pronunciation, especially in real-life communication across Arabic-speaking regions. Abstract

In Arabic language learning at UINSI Samarinda, there are various obstacles. The researcher found that external factors influence students’ success in understanding lecture material. These factors include students’ Arabic education background, non-pesantren students, lack of daily use of Arabic vocabulary, and low learning motivation. The external factors studied are divided into two categories: social environmental factors (characteristics, family, and friends) and non-social environmental factors (geography and weather). The sample consisted of 21 eighth-semester students from the Arabic Education Program for the 2024/2025. The research method used simple quantitative linear regression with data collected through questionnaires and analyzed using IBM SPSS version 27.0. The t-test results showed a calculated t-value of 7.575, which is greater than the table value of 1.721, indicating a significant effect. The correlation coefficient (R) is 0.352, and the coefficient of determination (R²) is 0.124, meaning external factors contribute 12.4% to students’ learning motivation. In conclusion, there is a positive and significant influence of external factors on the motivation to learn Arabic among students at UINSI Samarinda. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected.

Abstract

Arabic language teaching in Indonesia faces complex challenges, mainly due to the diversity of learner characteristics that include age, educational background, intelligence level, learning style, and motivation. The selection of teaching methods that do not consider these characteristics often becomes an obstacle in the learning process. This research aims to examine the strategy of selecting effective and adaptive Arabic teaching methods based on learners' characteristics. The research method used is library research with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through a review of various relevant scientific literature, then critically analyzed to find the relationship between the characteristics of learners and the teaching methods used. The results show that a deep understanding of learners' characteristics is very important in determining the right method, such as direct, communicative, audiolingual, or task-based methods. Method selection strategies that are based on the real needs of students can increase the effectiveness, engagement, and success of Arabic language learning. This research is expected to be a practical reference for teachers in designing a more inclusive and sustainable learning process.

Abstract

This study discusses the contribution of the Al-Hasyimi Calligraphy Art Studio in Palu in improving student learning outcomes in the Al-Khat course within the Arabic Language Education Program (PBA) at UIN Datokarama Palu. The main focus of this research is how the studio supports students’ mastery of calligraphy skills, particularly in the aspects of Arabic script aesthetics, writing techniques, and training discipline. Calligraphy is an essential skill in Arabic language learning; therefore, the presence of non-formal institutions such as calligraphy studios plays a strategic role in strengthening practical learning. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects include the studio manager, lecturers of the Al-Khat course, and PBA students who are both active and inactive in participating in the studio’s training activities. The results show that students who actively participate in the studio's activities experience significant improvements in writing quality, understanding of various khat styles, and training discipline. The studio applies diverse teaching methods such as lectures, demonstrations, drills, evaluations, and the use of technology through infocus media, which effectively complement formal academic instruction on campus. Thus, the Al-Hasyimi Studio plays an important role as an educational partner in calligraphy learning, encompassing technical, aesthetic, spiritual, and professional dimensions. The studio not only complements formal classroom learning but also serves as a space for character formation and holistic student development. Therefore, collaboration between educational institutions and calligraphy studios is highly recommended to ensure effective and contextual learning.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to describe the perceptions of students of the Arabic Language Education Department at UIN Datokarama Palu, Class of 2022, regarding the use of the Duolingo application in improving their Arabic vocabulary mastery. The research is based on the need for engaging and flexible learning media that can support continuous vocabulary acquisition, considering that conventional learning methods are often perceived as lacking variety and authentic contextual exposure to the Arabic language. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach involving seven purposively selected students based on their active use of Duolingo. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that most students hold positive perceptions of Duolingo, particularly due to its interactive features such as reading, listening, writing, and speaking exercises, which help enrich vocabulary gradually. Gamification elements, including points, levels, and daily streaks, also contribute to increased motivation and consistency in independent learning. However, several challenges are also identified, including limited vocabulary relevant to academic needs, dependence on a stable internet connection, and a tendency among some learners to pursue streaks without fully understanding the material. Overall, Duolingo is viewed as a sufficiently effective supplementary tool for enhancing Arabic vocabulary mastery, although its use becomes more optimal when combined with contextual materials and supported by lecturer guidance in formal learning environments.
