Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of work discipline and work motivation on the performance of educational staff, with organizational commitment as a mediating variable, in educational staff at the Faculty of Law, Brawijaya University, Malang. The approach used is quantitative with a survey and explanatory design. The entire population consisting of 46 people were used as respondents through a census technique. Primary data were collected using a Likert-scale-based questionnaire and analyzed using path analysis using SPSS version 26. The results show that work discipline and work motivation have a positive and significant effect on performance, both directly and indirectly through organizational commitment as a mediating variable. This means that increasing work discipline and motivation not only has a direct impact on improving performance but can also strengthen performance through increasing organizational commitment. These findings emphasize the importance of building a work culture that supports discipline and motivation, as well as strengthening organizational commitment as a foundation for improving educational staff performance. Therefore, policies and leadership are needed that are able to encourage the development of these three aspects in an integrated manner to achieve sustainable work effectiveness in the higher education environment.

Abstract

The study focuses attention on orientation of buildings as a significant design consideration due to its influence to improve the indoor thermal comfort. The aim of the study is to comparatively analysis the effect of building orientation on indoor thermal condition of buildings in the study area. To achieve the aim of the study, a field survey was carried out in five neighbourhoods using 550 administered questionnaires. Secondly, buildings relatively oriented longitudinally in the East-West and buildings oriented longitudinally in the North-south direction were identified for comparison in their indoor thermal condition. Thirdly, the indoor thermal condition of buildings in relation to building orientation in the study area are measured. Data obtained was analysed with the aid of analyses of variant to determine the influence of building orientation on indoor thermal condition of buildings. The result shows no significant relationship between building orientation and indoor thermal condition among the buildings assessed as the p-value equals 0.792. This result contrast most related research works, being that, most buildings were built with foreign building materials with one window in their functional spaces. No adequate building’s setbacks, high wall fence, and most buildings occupied more than 50% of the total plot size, which may have resulted in the distortion of air circulation around such buildings and increase in air temperature. The study therefore recommends a strict monitory of physical developments by relevant agency and proposed development must incorporate passive design strategies that works with the local climate to maintain a comfortable temperature indoors.

Abstract

The upstream oil and gas industry is inherently associated with a high level of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) risks, in which two critical determinants of effective risk management are safety culture and its maturity level. Safety culture encompasses the values, attitudes, and behaviors demonstrated by an organization toward safety, whereas safety culture maturity reflects the extent to which such values are systematically institutionalized and sustained. The novelty of this study lies in highlighting the importance of developing safety culture beyond formal implementation, with particular emphasis on advancing maturity toward proactive and generative levels. Accordingly, this research aims to examine the influence of safety culture implementation and safety culture maturity on safety performance at Citic Seram Energy Limited. Employing a quantitative design, data were collected through a purposive sample of 80 respondents using a Likert-scale questionnaire and subsequently analyzed with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) via SmartPLS. The empirical results demonstrate that safety culture exerts a positive and statistically significant effect on safety performance (β = 0.45; p < 0.001), while safety culture maturity also exhibits a positive and significant effect (β= 0.38; p < 0.01). Collectively, these variables account for 62% of the variance in safety performance. In conclusion, the findings underscore that strengthening safety culture and enhancing its maturity are essential strategies for significantly improving safety performance within the upstream oil and gas sector.

Abstract

Nickel mining activities in the North Morowali area cause changes in the surface structure of the land and increase the risk of erosion, especially around the settling pond area. The erosion that occurs affects the shallowing of the pond, reduces its sediment storage capacity, and creates a potential for turbid water runoff to overflow into the surrounding environment. This study aims to predict the erosion rate and classify the level of erosion hazard (TBE) using the Modified Universal Soil Loss Equation (MUSLE) method which is more representative of mining conditions with extreme rainfall and dynamic morphology. Data collection was conducted through literature studies, field observations, and the processing of primary and secondary data, including rainfall, soil type, topography, and land use. Data analysis was carried out using ArcGIS 10.8 software for mapping rain catchment areas, slope gradients, and soil classification. The calculation results show that the annual sedimentation rate reaches 7256.073 m³/year, with a sedimentation rate of 62.806 tons/ha/year, and is included in the class III category (moderate erosion). Conservation recommendations are directed at a combination of vegetative methods, such as planting cover crops and local vegetation, and mechanical methods such as terracing and drainage channels according to slope contours.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology and social media has transformed the way audiences consume news, particularly among younger generations. TikTok, as a short-form video platform, has shifted from being merely a source of entertainment to becoming an important channel for information and news. This phenomenon raises a research problem regarding how audiences receive, interpret, and respond to news content presented in a new format, as exemplified by Metro TV’s official TikTok account, @meetnitelive. The purpose of this study is to analyze audience reception of the account’s news content and to explore how it influences public interest in consuming news. This research employs Stuart Hall’s Reception Analysis Theory, which emphasizes that audiences are not passive recipients of media messages but actively interpret them based on their social, cultural, and ideological contexts. Using a qualitative approach with a constructivist paradigm, the study finds that audiences occupy three interpretive positions: dominant, negotiated, and oppositional. The findings reveal that Metro TV, through @meetnitelive, successfully captures audience attention by delivering short, interactive, and visually engaging content aligned with digital trends. Nevertheless, some audiences remain critical of the accuracy, objectivity, and journalistic ethics of the news presented. These results underline that the success of media in the digital era depends not only on innovative formats but also on the ability to maintain credibility while fostering participatory audience engagement.

Abstract

The high intensity of formal communication, Laong Pantar communication between village political elites, the community results in a decrease in trust. A high level of uncertainty in a relationship causes a decrease in the level of intimacy of the communication content, resulting in a high level of reciprocity (feedback). (West & Turner: 2013: 150). Someone feels uncomfortable in a relationship because they feel they are not part of the group members Gudykunts and Kim (2003). Trying to find a way out to develop a new concept or communication model. How to apply the Laong Pantar model in the implementation of village government in Sumbawa district. What are the motives for understanding and disagreement within the village political elite and the community regarding the discourse of implementing Laong Pantar. Which is more dominant between santripetal motives and santrifugal motives within the political elite and the community regarding the discourse of implementing Laong Pantar in the implementation of village government. This type of research is descriptive qualitative, natural observation, Data collection uses observation, in-depth interviews, structured interviews and documentation. The results of the study show that the Laong Pantar implementation model desired by the political elite and the community is the elaborative final communication model. The motives for disagreement among political elites are habitual or accustomed to formal communication. This is due to a decline in trust in one's own culture, along with increased workload and political motives.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Generation Z as digital marketers and active consumers in increasing the turnover of economic transactions at the Erau Festival of the Kutai Ing Martadipura Sultanate in Tenggarong, East Kalimantan. This phenomenon is interesting because the Erau Festival is not only a means of cultural preservation, but also a driver of the local economy through community participation, especially the younger generation. This study uses a mixed methods approach with a sequential explanatory design, which combines quantitative and qualitative analysis. Primary data was collected through a survey of 272 Generation Z respondents using purposive and quota sampling techniques. Data analysis was carried out using the multiple linear regression (OLS) method with the help of SPSS. The results showed that the variables Digital Marketer (B = 0.294; p < 0.001) and Active Consumer (B = 0.234; p < 0.001) had a positive and significant effect on the turnover of economic transactions, with an R² value of 0.561. This means that 56.1% of transaction turnover variations can be explained by the role of Generation Z, while the rest are influenced by other factors such as government support and cultural appeal. These findings confirm that Generation Z plays a strategic role in strengthening the culture-based creative economy through digital activities and direct consumption. Therefore, policies are needed that encourage collaboration between the local government, the Sultanate of Kutai, and the Generation Z community in the development of digital promotion, creative marketing training, and sustainable cultural economic facilitation.
