Abstract

In the 21st century, national education required to reformulate its learning system to optimally meet the demands of students' thinking skills. However, assessments of Indonesian students' abilities in mathematics, science, literacy, and numeracy remained relatively low. To address this gap, students required teachers with strong pedagogical competence to help them improve their 21st-century thinking skills. This research aimed to examine the role of Christian teachers as facilitators in developing such skills. Their pedagogical responsibilities included guiding students toward learning that met student’s thinking needs, implementing problem-based learning, integrating technology in line with Christian values, and providing constructive feedback on students' thinking development. Christian teachers also needed to recognize sin as a human reality and understand the restoration of human's relationship with God through redemption, ensuring that educational practices remained untainted by secular postmodern philosophies. The author suggested that problem-based learning methods be explored to help students cultivate the thinking skills essential for the 21st century.

Abstract

This writing is driven by the increasing cases of human trafficking in Sumba, a serious crime against humanity and a violation of human rights. Many men and women working abroad, along with numerous women and children, have fallen victim to trafficking, where they are exploited without fair wages or forced into sexual labor. In recent years, many victims of trafficking have returned home with missing organs, or worse, have lost their lives. The author believes that the church must take action by raising awareness and resistance through transformative Christian education. Thus, this writing aims to analyze how transformative Christian education can play a role in combating human trafficking. The research is based on a qualitative methodology, using data collection methods such as literature review, observation, and interviews. The findings indicate that Christian education within the church has yet to address human trafficking, as it currently focuses solely on worship services. The author suggests that Christian education in congregations should be re-evaluated to include topics related to human trafficking. The Christian educational content should not only be drawn from the Bible but also from real-world experiences and social issues like human trafficking that affect the community. The goal of Christian education should be to inspire transformation and change within the congregation

Abstract

Attention given to children from the womb plays a vital role in supporting their physical and character development. The Karo tribe has a seven-month pregnancy tradition called ngembah manuk mbur, which aims to provide care and attention to pregnant mothers and their unborn children. However, this tradition remains limited in terms of fulfilling the rights of unborn children. Therefore, this study aims to reinterpret such tradition in the light of a biblical-theological context and within the framework of a Child-Friendly Church that it can serve as a foundation for child-friendly Christian education in the context of Karo community. The study employs a qualitative method with a literature review to explore the concept of the ngembah manuk mbur tradition and the concept of a Child-Friendly Church. These concepts serve as analytical tools to examine the implementation of such tradition. The findings indicate that reconstructing the tradition based on biblical-pedagogical principles and within the framework of a Child-Friendly Church can transform it into a foundation for child-friendly education within the Karo community. Traditionally, ngembah manuk mbur is conducted to strengthen pregnant mothers and is only performed for first-born children. This study proposes three key reconstructions of the tradition: it should be performed for all children, it should be carried out throughout the mother's pregnancy, and it should serve as a way for all family members to welcome the child into the family.

Abstract

Indonesia is a nation significantly rich in cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity. While this diversity is a source of strength, it also presents challenges in fostering social harmony. This study examines the implementation of the peacemaker concept in bridging differences in beliefs, based on Jesus' teachings in Matthew 5:9. Using a qualitative method with a literature review approach (library research), the research explores relevant websites, journals, and books to analyze the biblical meaning of "peacemakers" and how Christian educators can apply this principle in Indonesia’s religiously plural society. Findings indicate that being a peacemaker requires active engagement in fostering peace rather than merely living in passive harmony. Key implementation strategies include developing interfaith empathy, applying conflict mediation techniques rooted in Christian values, and adopting a collaborative approach to community service. This study concludes that Christian educators play a vital role as peacemakers, with a responsibility to bridge differences, facilitate interfaith dialogue, and promote tolerance and inclusivity within Indonesia’s diverse society.

Abstract

The Nigerian middle class has been the subject of extensive sociological inquiry, yet the intersection of religion, education, and social mobility within this group remains underexplored, particularly among Christian communities in Lagos State. This paper examines the historical and contemporary factors shaping the emergence and reproduction of the Nigerian Christian middle class. Drawing on existing studies, the analysis highlights the role of missionary education, familial strategies, and professional advancement in fostering upward mobility. The heterogeneity of Christian denominations, stratification within religious communities, and the role of gender and migration are explored to provide a nuanced understanding of how Nigerian Christians navigate social hierarchies. The study also identifies gaps in current research, emphasizing the need for focused empirical studies to unpack the complex interplay of religion, class, and education. Findings contribute to the broader discourse on the sociology of religion and middle-class identity formation in Nigeria.

Abstract

Education is very important for the progress of a region and a nation. In Indonesia, particularly in Tana Toraja, education is still a trending topic, so the government has made it one of its main programs, marked by the construction of schools, facilities that are starting to improve, and educators who are becoming more skilled with more advanced and contextual educational concepts. However, this situation seems to justify parents' decision to entrust the entire responsibility of education to schools. The purpose of this study is to restore the primary role of Christian educators, namely parents, by analyzing the concept of education in the Tongkonan culture. This study was conducted using qualitative research with descriptive analysis of findings through literature review and interviews. The results of the study indicate that the concept of education in Tongkonan, based on the independent curriculum, can restore the natural role of educators in Christian families in Toraja. Parents act as teachers, communicators of norms, teachers of life values, and teachers of symbolic meanings, which are then elaborated in principles, processes, and practices in teaching.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country rich in ethnic, cultural, and religious diversity. One of its key challenges is fostering harmony among people of different faiths. In this context, religious moderation education for early childhood becomes critically important to prevent radicalization and to nurture a spirit of tolerance. This research aims to explore how the example of Jesus in Mark 10:13–16 can serve as a model for religious moderation educators in early childhood. The study uses biblical exegesis to interpret the meaning of the scripture, as well as interviews and literature reviews to gather information from various relevant sources. The discussion reveals that the values of love, acceptance, and appreciation of differences as taught by Jesus can be effectively applied in early childhood education. This research successfully identifies the model of a Religious Moderation Educator for Early Childhood based on Mark 10:13–16, known as PERAMAH - Penerimaan (Acceptance), Empati (Empathy), Ramah (Friendliness), Apresiasi (Appreciation), Mendengarkan (Listening), Akomodasi (Accommodation), and Harmonisasi (Harmonization). It is recommended that early childhood educators implement religious moderation education using the PERAMAH model to build a more harmonious Indonesia today and in the future.
