Abstract

Information technology (IT) has transformed the banking industry and the outbreak of the Covid-19 accelerated the trend making the issue of IT adoption more relevant than ever. This study examines the influence of technology adoption on operational performance of medium commercial banks in Moshi Municipality in Tanzania to include Mkombozi Bank, Uchumi Commercial Bank and Akiba Commercial Bank. A concurrent research design with a mixed methods approach was used where utilization of the qualitative and quantitative data was employed. The population of the study was 63 employees of the three banks and the sample size was determined through census technique as the population size was small. Primary data was collected from the respondents while secondary data was collected from the annual report of the year 2019/20 to 2022/2023. For validity of the instrument, face to face and content validity was used while reliability was done through a test-retest process of the instrument. As for data analysis, descriptive statistics, correlation and regression analysis was done to test the influence of technology adoption during COVID 19 pandemic on the operational efficiency of commercial banks in the study area. Findings of the study has shown that debit cards, credit cards, mobile banking and Point of Sale (POS) has positive influence on net profit margin at p-values less than 0.05 while credit cards and debit cards has negative influence on operational efficiency of the studied banks. It is concluded from the study that debit cards, credit cards, internet banking, mobile banking and POS have a positive influence on the net profit margin. Similarly debit cards and credit cards have a negative influence on operating expenses ratio. It is recommended that; banks should take advantage of the technologies to expand their net profit margins while they should be careful with the debit cards and credit cards regarding the operational efficiency of the banks

Abstract

RADEC learning model (read-answer-discuss-explain-create) strives to actively involve students in learning activities because, in the 21st-century era every student is required to have critical thinking skills which must be trained through learning activities that support students to be able to build their knowledge independently. This research aims to analyze various previous research results and development trends in using the RADEC learning model to improve students' critical thinking skills when applied in Microeconomic Theory courses. The research method used is a systematic literature review. Researchers collected 70 articles published in 2020-2024 in accredited scientific journals sourced from the database of Google Scholar related to the topic being studied. The article metadata identification process is carried out using the Mendeley application and analyzed using the application Vosviewer. Based on the systematic literature review that has been carried out, the results show that the RADEC learning model can improve critical thinking skills, communication, and collaboration skills because students are directed to be able to find solutions to the problems being studied. Apart from that, the syntax of this learning model adapts to Vygotski's social constructivism theory, that the process of building knowledge can be carried out through a process of social interaction through various discussion and collaboration activities. This learning model can be applied in multiple fields of study, including microeconomic theory courses which have contextual learning content and are very close to students' lives, so it can be said that the RADEC learning model has great potential in improving students' critical thinking skills in microeconomic theory courses.

The population in this study consisted of 196 students from Economic Education Study Program at Jenderal Soedirman University, from the 2021, 2022, and 2023 cohorts with a sample of 132 students. The data used in this research were obtained using a closed-ended questionnaire with proportionate stratified random sampling as the sampling technique and multiple linear regression analysis as the data analysis technique. The results of the research and data analysis using the SPSS program showed that: (1) There is no positive influence of adversity quotient on learning independence. (2) There is a positive influence of achievement motivation on learning independence. (3) There is a positive influence of self-concept on learning independence. The implications of this research are that students are advised to enhance their learning independence by increasing motivation to achieve better academic performance and to enhance their self-concept by nurturing a positive view of themselves, thereby developing self-confidence.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of unemployment rate on health outcomes in Nigeria from 1985 to 2022. The study adopts the annual time series data obtained from Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN, 2022) Statistical Bulletin and World Development Indicators (WDI, 2022). This study uses life expectancy and child mortality as the two metrics for health outcomes. The ARDL Bounds Test for co-integration shows there exists long run relationship between the variables. The study employed the ARDL model and results show that unemployment rate has negative and positive impacts on the two metrics respectively in both the short run and long run. While other variables like population growth, total labor force, and government expenditure on health show statistically significant impact on life expectancy in Nigeria. The granger causality test shows that there is a bi-directional causality between unemployment rate and child mortality rate in Nigeria; whereas there is no causality running from unemployment rate to life expectancy rate in Nigeria. The study recommends that to improve life expectancy and reduce child mortality, there should be an investment in primary healthcare, health awareness campaigns, education, sustainable economic growth, social safety nets, population control strategies, and a skilled labor force.

Abstract

This research aims to find out students' experiences in developing problem-solving skills through making cashier digitalization in MSMEs with a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach. This research uses a qualitative method with an exploratory study approach, where data is collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results showed that students were able to identify problems faced by MSMEs, design technology-based solutions, and collaborate in developing a system that suits user needs. The learning process through PBL also encourages students to think critically, improve analytical skills, and hone cooperation skills in solving technical challenges. This research shows that the application of PBL in the Accounting Information Systems course not only helps students understand concepts theoretically but also be able to implement them in the real world. Thus, the digitalization of cashiers not only provides benefits for MSMEs in increasing the efficiency of recording transactions but also becomes an effective learning tool for students in honing problem-solving skills.
