Abstract

Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are essential for economic growth, especially in rural areas. However, many MSMEs need help marketing their products, including Geplak Salak MSMEs in Jengglik Village. Mentoring aims to assist in marketing by utilizing social media and product labels to increase market reach and product selling value. The assistance was carried out in March-April 2022. The target of the assistance was MSMEs that produce food using snake-fruit as the primary ingredient, which was processed into ready-to-eat food, namely Geplak Salak. This assistance used an asset-based community development (ABCD) approach to improve marketing strategies through training in social media. The result of this training was the creation of a product logo that suits the preferences of MSME owners and increased product exposure on the Instagram and Facebook platforms, which can help expand the product's market reach. In conclusion, promoting social media can be an effective solution to overcome the marketing challenges MSMEs face.

Abstract

One of the nutritional problems faced today is stunting, a condition in which a child's growth is restricted due to a lack of adequate dietary intake. Providing nutrition education to mothers of toddlers with stunted children is crucial in overcoming this problem. This activity aims to increase mothers' nutritional knowledge of toddlers with stunted children in Nanggalo District, Padang City. The method used education through counselling and local food recipe books. The target group of this activity was 22 mothers of stunted toddlers. The results of this activity were effective in enhancing mothers' understanding and awareness of the importance of balanced nutrition for children. These results can be seen from the answers given by stunted toddler mothers, who initially did not know but became aware, with correct answers reaching 90% after the counselling sessions. The counselling methods allow mothers to understand more deeply the concept of nutrition and the nutritional needs of children. Food recipe books are a source of information that mothers can access again at home, providing practical guidance in choosing and preparing healthy foods quickly and affordably. With a holistic approach through counselling and food recipe books, it is hoped that mothers with toddlers can have better nutrition knowledge, implement changes in family eating patterns, and ultimately help overcome the problem of stunting in their children.

Abstract

Adolescents are exposed to a variety of stressors during the challenging adolescent transition phase. Nowadays, adolescents are more susceptible to mental health issues, which are reportedly becoming more prevalent globally. Involve schools in initiatives to address adolescent mental health to raise teenage understanding and awareness. Adolescents' mental health status can be assessed by mental health screening and education, and mental health education can help them know more about their mental health. This activity aims to expand students' awareness of mental health issues at public junior high schools in Padang. The IDASS-Y adolescent health self-reporting instrument was used to implement the intervention. The dissemination of information about adolescents' mental health issues and strategies for preventing them served as the basis for educational initiatives. According to the activity's findings, 25 students in Junior High School had mild depression (92.6%), one who had moderate depression (3.7%), and one who had severe depression (3.7%). The prevalence of anxiety among SMPN 23 students was 25 mildly anxious individuals (92.6%) and two moderately anxious individuals (7.4%). Twenty participants (74.1%) reported light stress, six (22.2%) reported moderate stress, and one (3.7%) reported severe stress. The knowledge score has improved before and during mental health education—the importance of involving schools in mental health management, including education and screening.

Abstract

The stunting rate in toddlers is still high in West Sumatra Province, including Padang City. These nutritional problems are inseparable from the mother's role in maintaining her health and nutrition before, during, and after pregnancy or childbirth. Nutritious food is recommended to meet the mother's needs and the fetus's growth and development. The activity aims to increase mothers' understanding of the consumption of nutritious food during pregnancy and their ability to apply it in their daily lives. The activity was carried out through nutrition education accompanied by individual counselling from house to house in the work area of the Public Medical Center in Belimbing, Padang City. Leaflets were distributed to pregnant women to help them understand the material presented. A total of 20 pregnant women were involved in this activity and were enthusiastic about it, as can be seen from the questions asked of the educators. The activity resulting in this education effectively increases the mother's knowledge. With personal communication, this problem can be overcome. Thus, mothers with malnutrition will better understand the nutritious food that must be consumed.

Abstract

Marketing in rural areas predominantly relies on marketing strategies from the surrounding area, as with traditional snack MSMEs in Ngablak Village. The diversity of products with authentic flavours does not increase sales of traditional snacks in Ngablak Village because a good marketing strategy has yet to support them. This activity aims to improve the marketing strategy of traditional snacks MSMEs using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach. The PAR stages include Inquiry by conducting field observations and identifying problems MSMEs face. Action, namely assisting in creating marketing media such as Facebook, Google Maps and branding (logo), reflects on using marketing media to expand MSME marketing. An evaluation was carried out on the impact of this assistance. Marketing strategy assistance involved seven MSMEs of traditional snacks in Ngablak Village and was carried out for 45 days during March-April 2022. The assistance results showed that the PAR approach effectively found the right strategy and solution to increase the marketing of traditional snacks among MSMEs in Ngablak Village. Abstract

Mathematics is a field of study needed in various aspects of life. Accordingly, mathematics should always be considered a compulsory subject at every level of education, including in Islamic Boarding Schools. The fact shows that implementing mathematics learning in several schools needs to run optimally, especially in schools lacking teachers and limited educational facilities and infrastructure, such as The Al Ashry Islamic Boarding School, at the secondary level in Padang. This condition indicates that it is necessary to assist other parties to help students in their mathematics learning process. For this reason, the community service team of The Mathematics and Science Data Department of Andalas University conducted an intensive mathematics tutoring activity for The Al-Asyri Boarding School students. The activity carried out during September-December 2022 combined the lecture and the small group discussion approach. From the evaluation delivered by the students at the end of the activity, it can be concluded that this activity increased students’ interest, motivation, efficacy, and understanding of mathematics subject.

Abstract

The community engagement team of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lampung, conducted community services in the Jaya Lestari Pekon Selapan farmer group, Pardasuka District, Pringsewu Regency. The partner's problem is that elephant ginger (Zingiber officinale var. officinarum) still needs to be optimal in its use, limited to being harvested and then sold directly to collectors, and the selling price on the market is low. Farming groups have never used elephant ginger as a product. The activity aims to educate the public that elephant ginger can be utilized and developed to be processed into a product dosage form, which can add economic value by being made into an antioxidant health supplement product in the form of a pulvis preparation (powder). As well as increasing the capacity and welfare of the community through empowering the potential of the village resources. The method for implementing did through focus group discussions (FGD) included conveying theory through lectures, interactive discussion, and accompanying practical demonstrations in making elephant ginger powder products. The results of this activity show the high enthusiasm of farmer groups and women farmer groups (KWT) in producing elephant ginger powder products.

Abstract

Food is one of the basic human needs, and food is usually given food additives. However, public knowledge about food additives still needs to be improved in terms of type, appropriate dosage for use and impact on human health. Apart from being good, food must also be halal, but public understanding of halal food ingredients and the contamination of non-halal ingredients into food is still lacking. This community service activity aims to increase public knowledge, especially in Talaka village, about food additives that are halal, healthy and nutritious and to be able to recognize products that contain food additives that are dangerous to health. This activity was carried out through introductions, giving pre-test questionnaires, providing education on halal, healthy and nutritious food, and giving a post-test afterwards. Nineteen participants answered questions correctly before education was 50%, while after education it was improved to 75%. Based on the results of observations and discussions with counselling participants, information was obtained that the public already understands the importance of choosing food products that are hygienic, halal, healthy and nutritious and that the public knows about additional ingredients—permitted and prohibited foods for food products.

Abstract

Technology and the internet can help students learn effectively. Improper use of online resources accessed for educational purposes can also hinder effective learning, as students need more participation and control. This training encourages students to participate in teaching and learning, even using internet-supported education facilities. The first part of the training was psychoeducation regarding the effectiveness of internet use among teenagers, and the second part was related to a short course regarding student engagement in learning activities. Psychoeducation uses the lecture method, and question-and-answer discussions with participants, and a short-course used the lecture method discussions in small groups of four to five students. The activity's outcomes included increases in participants' pre- and post-test knowledge of internet effectiveness (up from 51% of participants) and student involvement (up from 96.2% of participants). According to the paired sample t-test results, there was a noteworthy distinction between the short-course activities yielded pre-test and post-test scores with a p<.001. On the other hand, the outcomes of the psychoeducational activities pre- and post-test did not differ significantly, a p-value of 0.828. After completing this activity, students are expected to be focused on their academic work and possess the skills necessary to use the internet efficiently.
