Abstract

Mangroves are coastal ecosystems that have an important role in maintaining the balance of the coastal environment and are effective carbon absorbers which have an important role in climate regulation. The effects of global warming can be reduced through the absorption of organic carbon from photosynthesis and stored in woody biomass, such as standing mangrove trees. Biomass distribution analysis in mangrove vegetation is needed to understand the condition and distribution of mangrove vegetation in more depth and to reflect the productivity and health of the ecosystem. Nusa Lembongan Bali has the potential and utilization of mangrove ecosystems which have potential flora and fauna that need to be preserved. Method spatial interpolation is an effective approach in analyzing biomass distribution because it is able to overcome the limitations of sample data in large forest areas using deterministic techniques Inverse Distance Weighted (IDW). This research aims to analyze the distribution of mangrove vegetation biomass and assess the level of accuracy of the method spatial interpolation in producing a distribution map of mangrove biomass in Nusa Lembongan, Bali. There are 4 types of mangroves found in Nusa Lembongan that are affordable for research, including: Rhizophora apiculata, Xylocarpus granatum, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza And Sonneratia alba, with 90% having a sandy mud substrate. Nusa Lembongan has good biomass distribution as shown by the mangrove vegetation biomass distribution map which shows a dominant color of green to yellow with an average biomass value of 200 Mg/ha to 300 Mg/ha. The results of the correlation calculation have a significant correlation accuracy value with a value of rCount 0.997 > rTable 0.273 which is shown through the results of correlation calculations that support the results of biomass distribution in mangrove vegetation on Nusa Lembongan Island, Bali.

Abstract

Turtles are biota that are included in the protected animal category because they have a high level of threat of extinction due to natural and anthropogenic factors. Turtles spend their time in the open sea and go ashore to lay their eggs each season. The successful hatching of turtle eggs is important as an effort to increase their population. This research aims to see the success rate of hatching of green turtle (Chelonia Mydas) eggs on Bangkaru Island, Banyak Island, Aceh Singkil. This research was carried out from March to June 2024. The research was carried out by observing at the green turtle nesting beach the number of nests, number of eggs, nest meters, percentage of hatched eggs. The method used in this research is a survey (direct observation). In the results of research that has been carried out, the highest percentage of turtle eggs is found in the 6th nest with a percentage of 48%, while the lowest percentage is found in nests 1, 2 and 4 with a percentage of 0%. The high percentage in the 6th nest is estimated because of the location. nest that is suitable for the nest, because the nest is directly exposed to the sun and is far from the ebb and flow of sea water which results in the nest being damp and the temperature of the nest remaining stable, the low hatching rate in nests 1, 2, and 4 is because the nest is close to the nest. The ebb and flow of sea water causes the nest to be flooded with sea water and the nest is not exposed to enough sunlight, which causes the eggs to rot in the nest.

Abstract

Abstract The cooling system on a ship's main engine plays a crucial role in maintaining operational temperature stability but often encounters technical issues that can degrade engine performance and risk damage to critical components. This study identifies the factors causing failures in the cooling system of the main engine on KM. God Bless 08, particularly in the heat exchanger and pipeline components. Data were collected through field observations and direct measurements of freshwater and seawater temperatures at various operational points of the engine. The analysis revealed that the cooling system's performance significantly declined due to dirt deposits and corrosion in the capillary pipes, which hindered the efficiency of heat exchange between seawater and freshwater. The findings of this research provide insights for optimizing the cooling system through regular maintenance and component cleaning, essential for preventing overheating and improving the efficiency of the ship's main engine operations.

Abstract

The large deck openings of ultra-large container ships greatly reduce their torsional stiffness, and hydroelastic analysis is a must for reliable structural design. In the initial design stage, the beam model is a rational choice. This study aims to investigate torsion's effect on container ships' strength using a numerical approach based on fatigue boundary conditions and ultimate boundary conditions in the midship region. Regarding fatigue boundary conditions, the dimensional influence of the container ship is obtained at the connection between the longitudinal side shell stiffeners and the transverse web frame for nine structural details, which refer to different arrangements of reinforcing elements. The structural influence on the local stress distribution was assessed along the longitudinal plates between the regular stiffeners bounding the perimeter of the torsion box by calculating the hull girder stresses. Abstract

The waters of Bitung, located in North Sulawesi Province, have long been known for their rich underwater biodiversity, specifically unique and exotic creatures. They are a potential demersal fishing ground for coastal fishermen in Bitung City. However, information on demersal fishing grounds is limited, so it is necessary to conduct research and map demersal fishing grounds in Bitung waters. This study aims to obtain data on the geographical position of demersal fishing areas in Bitung waters to be mapped into a map of demersal fishing areas in Bitung waters and determine the types of catches from bottom fishing rods. Data was collected directly by following demersal fishing operations on the training ship FV. Coelacanth. The data were analyzed using survey methods and direct observation, which is an effort to collect information directly from a part of the population that is considered a specified population and has the nature of authentication or checking of existing theories. The study's results obtained geographical data on demersal fishing areas in Bitung waters at (1) 10°23.447' N, 125°06.934' E (Suar Batu Kapal area),, (2) 10°23.483' N, 125°09.567' E (Karang Tanjung Merah area) (3) 10°23.283' N, 125°10.852' E (Batu Angus Area), (4) 10°30.393' N, 125°15.392' E (Menara Lampu Hijau Area), and (5) 10°32.706' N, 125°18.105' E (Dua Pulau area). Abstract

Energy is a fundamental element in economic and social development, with oil and natural gas remaining the primary energy sources in Indonesia. To support the distribution of hydrocarbons from production facilities to onshore locations, subsea pipelines serve as vital infrastructure in the upstream oil and gas industry. However, subsea pipelines face various external risks, including dropped ship anchors, which can cause significant damage both technically and environmentally. This study aims to analyze the risk level of dropped anchors on subsea pipelines in Natuna. The methodology involves data collection related to pipeline characteristics, vessel traffic, and anchor types. Consequence analysis is conducted by calculating pipeline dent levels due to anchor kinetic energy based on the DNV-RP-F107 guideline. The results show that the anchor impact energy on the pipeline is approximately 3,94 kJ, placing the pipeline consequence level in the <5% dent/diameter category. Risk assessment using a risk matrix indicates that the risk level remains within the ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable) threshold, meaning the risk is acceptable with reasonable mitigation measures. The findings suggest that although dropped anchors can cause pipeline deformation, the resulting damage remains within safe limits. However, to further reduce potential risks, additional mitigation measures are required, such as vessel traffic monitoring, designated anchor-free zones, and enhancing pipeline resilience against external impacts.

Abstract

Welding is the process of joining 2 metals using a heat process. Ship repair is a ship care and maintenance activity that is planned periodically in accordance with the requirements of the classification body. It is not uncommon for a shipbuilding industry to carry out replating procedures that do not comply with the regulations of the classification body. It is often found in the replating process that plate joints have angles of less than 90°. This research explores the effect of the cutting angle of ship hull plates on the stress distribution in welded joints of ship hull plates using the finite element method with Solidworks simulation software using ASTM A36 material, taking angles of 30°, 40°, 50°, 60°, 70°, 90°. Based on the test results using Solidworks, we can see that the minimum stress results are at a 30o angle variation with a value of 92.6 N/mm2, and the maximum value is at a 90o angle with a value of 281 N/mm2. With several variations of these angles, those that meet BKI standards are the 80o angle and the 90o angle, each of which has a yield strength value that meets the standards set by the classification. To ensure the safety and durability of the ship's plate, it is recommended that the plate be cut at an 80° or 90° angle. These corners not only meet BKI standards but also demonstrate a more stable and even stress distribution, reducing the risk of material failure.

Abstract

Wood is one type of basic material that is often used as the main material for conventional shipbuilding in Indonesia. However, the use of wood as a material for making wooden ships is more often than trees that are proven to be sturdy but are not yet at harvest age. Bamboo is a material that is quite flexible and strong as a basic material for making wooden boats in Indonesia. Bamboo laminate combined with wood material can affect the normal bending strength of wood. This research aims to determine the effect of the ratio of bamboo laminate as a stress barrier in wood on the bending strength of the combined laminate. The method used in this research is an experimental method of the number of ratios of betung bamboo laminate constituents to acacia wood using a bending machine test, from a ratio of 40% betung bamboo to 60% acacia wood, 50% betung bamboo to 50% acacia wood, and 60% betung bamboo. % with 40% acacia wood using JIS Z-2113 standards. In this research, the results obtained were that laminates with a ratio of 40% betung bamboo to 60% acacia wood had an average bending strength value of 321.04 kg/cm2 and an average elastic modulus of 22.32 kg/cm2. The bending strength of betung bamboo laminate with acacia wood increased at a ratio of 40% betung bamboo 60% wood and decreased at a ratio of 60% betung bamboo 40% wood. The highest bending strength value is in the laminate with a ratio of 40% betung bamboo 60% acacia wood.

Abstract

This research aims is to analyze the challenges of using Maritime English by ship crews and its impact on safety at sea. Through a survey approach, data was obtained from a number of ship crews at ports, especially at Tanjung Perak Port, Surabaya. The results showed variations in the level of Maritime English competency among respondents, with a number of challenges faced, such as difficulties in daily communication, document translation, and interactions with port authorities. These challenges have serious implications for safety at sea, including increased risk of accidents, operational delays, and the inability to respond quickly and appropriately to emergency situations. These safety implications highlight the urgency to improve maritime English competency among ship crews through appropriate training and the development of effective communication strategies. By improving maritime English skills, it can be hoped that safety risks at sea can be significantly reduced. This research provides valuable insights for the shipping industry and authorities to improve communication practices and increase safety at sea.
