Abstract

Excess free radicals can trigger oxidative stress and contribute to degenerative diseases. Flavonoids, as natural antioxidants, neutralize free radicals and are therefore important in the development of functional beverages. This study aimed to evaluate sensory characteristics, panelist preference, and flavonoid content, and to determine the optimal formulation of tea bags containing green tea leaves (Camellia sinensis), lemongrass (Cymbopogon nardus), and ginger (Zingiber officinale). Four formulations were prepared: F1 (100% green tea), F2 (70:15:15), F3 (50:25:25), and F4 (30:35:35). Flavonoid content was determined by UV-Vis spectrophotometry, while sensory properties were assessed through organoleptic and hedonic tests. Panelists were aged 18–59 years, regular tea drinkers, with normal sensory ability, while exclusion criteria included pregnancy, breastfeeding, allergies, medication use. Results showed that F4 had the highest flavonoid content (49.397 ± 3.258 mg QE/L), followed by F3 (32.677 ± 3.703 mg QE/L), F2 (13.877 ± 1.960 mg QE/L), and F1 (11.117 ± 1.502 mg QE/L). Statistical analysis confirmed significant effects of formulation on flavonoid content and sensory attributes of color, aroma, and taste (p < 0.05). F4 was identified as the optimal formulation with superior flavonoid content and panelist acceptance.

Abstract

Stroke is a leading cause of disability and death worldwide, including in Indonesia, impacting motor function decline and low patient self-efficacy. Conventional physical exercise is physically beneficial but is often considered monotonous, while game-based Virtual Reality (VR) offers interactive, fun, and motivating exercises. This study aims to determine the effect of a combination of physical exercise and VR on the self-efficacy of stroke patients. Self-efficacy, according to Bandura, is the belief in one's ability to complete a task. The combination of physical exercise and game-based VR is expected to provide a synergistic effect, increasing patient motivation and engagement. The research method used a quantitative quasi-experimental design with two groups: intervention (physical exercise + VR) and control (physical exercise only). The sample consisted of 35 stroke patients at Blora Regional Hospital, drawn by total sampling. The intervention was carried out for 7 days, 6 times a day, for 10 minutes per session. Self-efficacy was measured before and after the intervention using a questionnaire. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests because the data were not normally distributed. The results showed that the intervention group experienced a significant increase in self-efficacy from moderate to high (p=0.001), while the control group showed no significant increase (p=0.076). Comparison between groups showed a significant difference (p=0.001), with higher scores in the intervention group. Game-based VR effectively increased self-efficacy through gradual success experiences, intrinsic motivation, and immediate feedback. Conventional physical exercise helped maintain motor function but had less impact on psychological aspects without the support of motivational stimulation. These results support the integration of VR in stroke rehabilitation programs. The combination of physical exercise and game-based VR effectively increased self-efficacy in stroke patients significantly compared to physical exercise alone. Recommendations provided include the implementation of game-based VR in nursing practice, further research with a larger sample size and intervention duration, and family support in implementing exercises to accelerate patient recovery.

Abstract

Pneumonia is a lower respiratory tract infection that remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality, especially in developing countries like Indonesia. The success of pneumonia therapy depends heavily on patient compliance in using antibiotics appropriately. However, patient compliance with antibiotic treatment remains low, which risks relapse and antibiotic resistance. One important factor that can improve understanding is presenting drug information accurately and clearly. This study aims to determine the effect of providing drug information on the level of antibiotic compliance in pneumonia patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Gubug Hospital. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design, involving two groups of pneumonia patients: those before and after receiving drug information intervention using leaflets. Compliance levels were measured using the MARS (Medication Adherence Rating Scale) questionnaire before and after the intervention. The results of the study will compare the significance of antibiotic compliance levels in the pre- and post-intervention groups (p < 0.05) using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Patients who were provided with information showed a better understanding of the importance of completing antibiotic therapy as recommended. In conclusion, providing effective drug information can improve patient adherence to antibiotic use, contributing to successful therapy and preventing resistance. These results can serve as a basis for developing drug information intervention programs in hospitals

Abstract

Persistent Stapedial Artery (PSA) is a rare vascular anomaly of the middle ear that results from the failure of the stapedial artery to regress during embryonic development. Despite often being asymptomatic, PSA has significant clinical implications, particularly in middle ear surgery, where it increases the risk of intraoperative bleeding and nerve injury. This review was conducted through a systematic search of PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar using the keywords “persistent stapedial artery,” “middle ear,” and “vascular anomaly.” Included articles comprised case reports, case series, and literature reviews from the past 10 years addressing embryology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and management of PSA. The findings indicate that PSA can be identified across different age groups, most often incidentally through temporal bone imaging or otologic procedures. In symptomatic cases, clinical features may include pulsatile tinnitus and conductive hearing loss. Temporal bone CT typically demonstrates the absence of the foramen spinosum and the presence of abnormal vascular channels in the tympanic cavity. Management varies, ranging from observation in asymptomatic cases to surgical intervention in patients with symptoms or complications. Although rare, recognition of PSA is critical to prevent intraoperative complications. Further studies are required to clarify the prevalence and define optimal therapeutic strategies. Meanwhile, heightened awareness among otolaryngologists and radiologists can improve diagnostic accuracy and patient safety.

Abstract

Photoaging is a complex skin aging process that results from prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light, leading to notable histological changes. This type of damage can affect both the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin. The purpose of this review article is to highlight and summarize the recent findings from the past five years concerning the histology associated with photoaging and the molecular mechanisms that contribute to this skin damage. The methodology employed involved a thorough literature review of articles published between 2020 and 2025. Journals were identified using targeted keywords, including "photoaging," "skin aging," "histology," and "actinic elastosis." The findings from this search are presented in a narrative format. The study found that UV exposure causes photoaging of the skin with damage to the epidermis and dermis. Photoaging causes structural and functional changes in the skin and causes gene mutations leading to skin carcinogenesis.

Abstract

Cognitive impairment has frequently been found as a geriatric syndrome in the elderly. It is vary from mild cognitive impairment to severe dementia. In cases of dementia, cognitive impairment has been found concomitanly with decreasing of daily activities characterized by dependence on the environment. Caring for dementia patients will increase many sector health burdens, indeed preventive actions are needed by managing risk factors such as frailty levels and finding new cases of cognitive impairment earlier with sensitive screening instruments. The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) is a superior instrument for detecting mild cognitive impairment. The study aims to examine the correlation of MoCA-Ina scores with the frailty status of elderly patients. This study is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional study design. The research subjects were taken using consecutive techniques. Based on the analytical formula for correlative numerical data, a sample of 95 subjects was obtained. The results of this study using Spearmen's rho correlation analysis has been obtained a significant relationship between MoCA-Ina scores and frailty levels with p = 0.000 and moderate correlation with correlation coefficient of r = -0.455. The study concluded that there was a moderate correlation between MoCA-Ina scores and the frailty levels of elderly subjects.

Abstract

Shiatsu therapy is a complementary treatment approach rooted in Japanese tradition, based on the principle of applying pressure to specific points on the body to stimulate energy flow, improve health, and support well-being. This study aims to explore the effect of shiatsu therapy on reducing the risk of injury. This study utilized a qualitative methodology, conducting a literature review of journals published between 2015 and 2025 related to shiatsu therapy. The search employed the keywords "shiatsu massage," "shiatsu for muscle injury," and "effect of shiatsu." Findings from the literature were synthesized and presented in narrative form The findings indicate that shiatsu therapy may reduce the risk of injury by decreasing muscle tension, enhancing flexibility, and increasing range of motion. Furthermore, shiatsu therapy is associated with psychological benefits, including reduced stress and improved sleep quality, both of which are crucial for recovery. Therefore, shiatsu therapy represents a potential strategy for injury prevention and comprehensive health maintenance.

Abstract

One of the challenges in construction activities is occupational safety. Every work process often involves the use of heavy equipment, heavy and dangerous building materials, and the height of the building structure, which can increase the risk of work accidents. The number of work accidents in the last five years shows a reasonably high increase, with 32% of work accidents in Indonesia coming from the construction sector. This study aims to identify potential hazards and risks of work accidents, conduct risk assessments, and provide control efforts for the dangers in the Al-Bakrie Grand Mosque construction project in Bandar Lampung. The method used is HIRADC (Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Determining Control). The hazard identification is based on literature studies, field observations, and interviews. Risk assessments are carried out to determine how high the risk is by filling out questionnaires by respondents, namely the frequency level questionnaire and the severity level questionnaire. The questionnaire was then processed using the severity index method and risk matrix sourced from PUPR Regulation No. 10 of 2021. The results of the analysis show that 35 hazard variables have the potential to cause work accidents. The risk assessment results obtained a low-risk category of 31 (88%) and a medium-risk category of 4 (12%). Control efforts must be carried out to eliminate or even reduce the risk of work accidents in the project by the control hierarchy, namely elimination, substitution, technical control, administrative control, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Abstract

Precocious Puberty: Etiology, Psychosocial Impact, and Management Puberty is a complex biological process characterized by activation of the hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal (HPG) axis, resulting in both physical and psychosocial changes. Precocious puberty (PP) is defined as the onset of pubertal signs before the age of 8 years in girls and 9 years in boys. This condition is classified into central precocious puberty (CPP), caused by premature activation of the HPG axis, and peripheral precocious puberty (PPP), which occurs independently of gonadotropin stimulation. Globally, the prevalence of PP has been rising, particularly among girls, with epidemiological studies from Denmark to various Asian countries reporting similar trends. Contributing factors include genetic variations (such as mutations in MKRN3 and DLK1), dysregulation of KNDy neurons, epigenetic mechanisms, obesity, nutritional patterns, exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals, and psychosocial stress. The consequences of PP extend beyond accelerated growth and compromised adult height prediction, encompassing psychosocial dimensions such as heightened anxiety, reduced selfesteem, social stigma, and difficulties in academic performance and peer relationships. Early diagnosis and appropriate management—particularly the use of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists in CPP—have proven effective in delaying pubertal progression and mitigating long-term sequelae. Given the increasing prevalence, a comprehensive understanding of the etiology, clinical consequences, and management strategies for PP is essential for both clinicians and researchers.
