Abstract

In this study, the effects of formative assessment on students' English language proficiency—specifically, EFL/ESL learners—are examined. Formative assessment is a crucial component of the classroom learning process and has been shown to improve students' academic performance and engagement. The impact of formative assessment on raising students' English competence at MTsN 1 Susoh was examined using a descriptive qualitative research methodology. The English teachers at MTsN 1 Susoh are the study's participants. Additionally, the researcher chooses two teachers who employ formative assessment to gauge their pupils' speaking proficiency using a purposive selection technique. Data were acquired through observation and interview procedures. This study highlights how crucial it is to establish an engaging classroom where students can freely express their ideas and work together with their peers. Students are more motivated to learn English thanks to this method, which also promotes participation. According to the results, formative assessment can greatly enhance students' speaking abilities if it is used properly. This is because it encourages students to actively participate in their evaluation process by establishing criteria and doing self-evaluation. Despite its advantages, formative evaluation is still difficult to apply successfully due to problems including packed classrooms and time management. In the end, this study promotes the use of formative assessment methods in English language instruction to enhance students' speaking proficiency and overall educational experience.

Abstract

The Golden Age phase is the most important stage in a child's development. In this phase, physical and psychological functions mature which allows the child to respond optimally to stimulation from the environment. This period is also the basis for developing cognitive, motor, language and social-emotional abilities, which will later support children's learning process at school. Unfortunately, not all parents realize that at the PAUD (Early Childhood Education) level, training and developing cognitive, motor, language and social-emotional skills is much more important than just focusing on reading, writing and arithmetic skills. This understanding is really needed by parents and teachers in order to prioritize children's development in early childhood. Currently, some parents and teachers in the Thousand Islands still do not understand the stages of child development which include sensory, motor, language, cognitive and social-emotional aspects during early childhood. As a result, children's potential is not trained and optimized properly. Therefore, solutions are needed to increase parents' understanding regarding children's development and education. The methods used in this research include initial surveys, FGD implementation, and problem analysis. The research results show that there are still many teachers and parents who do not understand the importance of stimulating children's development holistically, so training and mentoring are necessary solutions to increase their capacity to support early childhood development.

Abstract

Background: Age Related Hearing Loss (ARHL) or presbycusis is a hearing loss in the elderly that occurs gradually and symmetrically in both ears. One of the causes is dyslipidemia, which is a disorder of lipid levels in the body, including increased levels of Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL). High LDL levels trigger the formation of atherosclerotic plaque which causes reduced oxygen and nutrient supply to the ear labyrinth which causes hearing loss. Objective: To determine the relationship between increased LDL levels and presbycusis in patients with dyslipidemia at RSI Siti Rahmah. Method: This type of research is analytical observational research using a case control design and the type of data used is primary and secondary data using consecutive sampling techniques. Results: The most research subjects found were aged 60-69 years, the most male gender, the most LDL levels were in the high category and there is a significant relationship between increased LDL levels in elderly with dyslipidemia and the incidence of presbycusis (p = <0.000). Conclusion: There is a significant increase in LDL levels with presbycusis in elderly people with dyslipidemia at RSI Siti Rahmah (P value = 0.000) and elderly people with dyslipidemia with increased LDL levels have a 7 times greater risk of experiencing presbycusis compared to those who do not suffer from dyslipidemia.

Abstract

Aedes aegypti mosquitoes  are the main vector of the spread of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). These mosquito controls are often carried out with synthetic insecticides, but their use can lead to resistance and negative impacts on the environment. Therefore, a more environmentally friendly control alternative is needed, one of which is with natural biolarvicides. One example of a plant that has the potential to be a biolarvicide is citronella (Cymbopogon nardus L). This study aims to determine the biolarvicide activity of citronella ethanol extract (Cymbopogon nardus L) on the mortality of Aedes aegypti larvae  and determine the Lethal Concentration 50 (LC50) value. This research was carried out using experimental methods and data analysis techniques used, namely quantitative by calculating the LC valueof 50 using the probit analysis test on SPSS.  The results of the average percentage of mortality of Aedes aegypti larvae in group 1 (5%) was 61.3%, group 2 (10%) was 86.6%, and group 3 (15%) was 96.6%. The LC value of 50 from citronella ethanol extract (Cymbopogon nardus L) on the mortality of Aedes aegypti larvae was 3.531%. Citronella ethanol extract (Cymbopogon nardus L) has been shown to have natural biolarvicide effectiveness as the concentration of the extract increases.

Abstract

Anemia is a prevalent health issue among adolescent girls due to increased iron requirements during growth and menstruation. The consumption of iron-rich foods, such as dates (Phoenix dactylifera), serves as a non-pharmacological alternative that effectively enhances hemoglobin levels. This article aims to review the effectiveness of date juice consumption in improving hemoglobin levels in adolescent girls with iron deficiency anemia. A systematic literature review was conducted by analyzing various studies from PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases between 2013 and 2023. The analyzed studies included experimental research, randomized controlled trials (RCTs), and meta-analyses related to date consumption and hemoglobin level improvement. Various studies indicate that regular consumption of date juice significantly increases hemoglobin levels. Experimental studies found that administering date juice for 14 days can enhance hemoglobin levels by up to 31.50%. Additionally, combining date consumption with iron supplementation has been proven more effective than iron supplementation alone, demonstrating a synergistic potential between natural foods and nutritional status. Based on this literature review, date juice consumption can serve as an effective dietary intervention to improve hemoglobin levels in adolescent girls with anemia. Further research is needed to understand the biological mechanisms underlying the benefits of dates in hemoglobin enhancement and to evaluate the long-term effects of this intervention in broader populations.
