Abstract

This study aims to analyse the implementation of Merdeka Curriculum at SMP Muhammadiyah 10 Bandung in order to improve the quality of student-centred learning, as well as identify the challenges teachers face in understanding and implementing the new curriculum structure. This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature review method and institutional documentation as the main data sources. The data analysis technique was carried out thematically on curriculum documents, teaching modules, and scientific literature related to Merdeka Curriculum. The results showed that schools have seriously implemented the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum, including through teacher training and learning communities, but technical errors were still found in the preparation of Learning Objectives and Learning Objective Flow. This finding confirms the importance of curriculum literacy at the implementing level so that learning can be designed systematically and effectively. The implications of this study include the need for continuous training policies for teachers and more intensive curriculum supervision, to ensure the success of the Merdeka Curriculum implementation as a whole. The originality of this research lies in highlighting the technical dynamics in the implementation of the independent curriculum at the junior high school level, which has rarely been discussed in previous studies.

Abstract

This article aims to discuss the concepts of merit (reward) and sin in Islamic teachings and their implications for the work ethic of teachers at Madrasah Diniyah Al-Faruq Majalengka. In Islam, merit and sin are integral components of the ethical doctrine that influence individual behavior. A sound understanding of these concepts plays a vital role in shaping work motivation. Actions considered virtuous according to Islamic teachings are rewarded (merit), while violations of religious principles result in sin. Using data collection methods such as surveys, observation, interviews, and questionnaires, this study found a significant relationship between teachers’ understanding of the concepts of merit and sin and their level of work ethic. The greater the understanding of these concepts, the better the work ethic demonstrated in daily activities. This suggests that theological understanding can serve as an internal motivator in enhancing work quality, discipline, and professional responsibility among teachers. The main contribution of this article is to show that theological aspects, particularly the understanding of merit and sin can be important variables in shaping work ethic. This study offers a new perspective that improving teachers’ work ethic can be pursued not only through technical training but also by strengthening internal spiritual and religious values.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the lexico-grammatical choices in an EFL learner’s argumentative essay using the transitivity system. It seeks to assess the quality of the learner’s writing to help improve their writing ability. The study also explores the experiential meaning constructed by the learner to persuade the reader through her argumentative text. In terms of methodology, this research employs document analysis to investigate the transitivity system. The data is from an argumentative essay written by an EFL learner at a state university in Cirebon. A qualitative approach is used, specifically textual analysis, a data analysis method that closely examines texts' content, meaning, structure, and discourse. The result shows that the material process takes over half of the portions of all process types. It indicates that the EFL Learner only serves a few arguments in the text. Thus, the argumentative essay text written by EFL learners has not fulfilled the standard quality of writing an argumentative essay. It is clearly shown from the result of finding process types, which should be mental and verbal processes as the highest portions in the text. This study contributes to the understanding of how transitivity analysis can reveal the strengths and weaknesses in EFL learners' argumentative writing, with implications for developing more targeted pedagogical strategies to enhance students' ability to construct effective arguments.

Abstract

Low reading interest among children has become a growing concern, considering that literacy skills serve as a foundational element in developing the quality of human resources. To address this issue, effective strategies are needed to increase children's engagement with reading. This study explored the use of storytelling as a literacy strategy to foster interest in reading and language development. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, using direct observation at the Pelita Community Reading Park (TMB) located in Cirebon Regency. The observations revealed that the storytelling method significantly improved children's reading interest, text comprehension, and verbal expression. Children became more engaged in listening, understanding, and applying new vocabulary in daily conversations. Furthermore, storytelling proved effective in creating a joyful learning environment and promoting early literacy development. Based on these findings, the study recommends integrating storytelling literacy into early-grade language instruction, particularly within elementary education, as a comprehensive strategy to enhance children's language ability.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the application of effective teaching skills as a strategic effort to enhance student learning motivation at the senior high school level. The research is motivated by the declining student engagement in various learning settings, particularly in the post-pandemic era, where learning motivation is a crucial yet often overlooked factor. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the study was conducted at SMA Cempaka Putih using observations, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. Thematic analysis was applied to identify patterns of teaching practices and their impact on students' motivational responses. The findings reveal that key teaching competencies—such as clear communication, instructional variation, positive reinforcement, and classroom management—are strongly correlated with increased student participation, confidence, and intrinsic motivation. The study implies that empowering teachers with pedagogical skills that address students' cognitive, emotional, and social needs is essential in fostering a productive learning environment. This research contributes original insights by providing an in-depth contextual understanding of how effective teaching behaviors manifest in real classroom settings and how they shape students' motivational dynamics.
