Abstract

Like many other Islamic boarding schools (pondok pesantren), this institution provides dormitory facilities and meals for its students, yet animal-based protein is served only once a week. A community health screening conducted in 2024 revealed that 41% of participating students were suspected of having anemia. In response, we implemented a community service program to improve adolescent health by empowering kader santri husada (student health cadres) as peer educators for anemia prevention. This community development program involved education on anemia and educational media, the development of educational media, and peer-led education sessions. A total of 72.7% of cadres completed the training, producing two educational media outputs. Female cadres subsequently conducted anemia and iron supplementation (TTD) education for 60 female students, followed by a collective TTD consumption activity. This initiative shows that student health cadres can act as agents of change in pondok pesantren. Future programs should incorporate pre- and post-tests during peer education sessions and establish routine activities to reduce anemia prevalence among students.

Abstract

Background: The elderly are a vulnerable age who experience various problems, especially the problem of physical dissatisfaction which results in disturbances in musculoskeletal function. Disorders that often arise are joint pain that makes the elderly experience disruption of daily activities. Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative disease that causes chronic inflammation due to friction between the ends of the bones that make up the joints. Therapy that can be used to reduce joint pain is progressive muscle relaxation therapy. Progressive muscle relaxation is a relaxation technique that combines deep breathing exercises and several contraction and relaxation techniques of certain muscles. Study aims to determine the effect of progressive muscle relaxation therapy on reducing joint pain in the elderly at Wisma Dahlia UPT PSTW Jember. Method: Experimental study with a quasi-experimental research design with a pretest and posttest one group design approach where in this study compares the pretest and posttest values of the elderly pain scale after giving progressive muscle relaxation therapy at Wisma Dahlia UPT PSTW Jember. Results and Discussion: Almost all the elderly at Wisma Dahlia have complaints, namely joint pain with a percentage of 86.4% with a pain scale of 4-6 before being given therapy. After 3 sessions of progressive muscle relaxation exercise there was a decrease in the level of pain before and after progressive muscle relaxation exercise from moderate pain (4-6) from 61.5% to 15.3% pain. In addition, there was an increase in the number of mild pain (1-3) from 38.5% to 84.7%. The p-value is 0.018 <0.05, which means that there are differences in the level of pain in the elderly before and after the progressive muscle relaxation intervention. The decrease in pain scale in the elderly shows that progressive muscle relaxation therapy is able to effectively reduce pain by increasing endorphins in the body to inhibit the transmission of painful stimuli. Conclusion: The elderly at Wisma Dahlia UPT PSTW Jember after participating in the empowerment of progressive muscle relaxation exercises for 1 week, their joint pain complaints decreased. Progressive muscle relaxation needs to be included in the PSTW exercise program that can be done routinely so that it can reduce joint pain experienced by the elderly.

Abstract

Premenstrual Syndrome is a common health problem that most women of reproductive age complain about. There are more female students of the Faculty of Health than boys and all female students are of productive age. This study aims to analyze the relationship between physical activity and the incidence of PMS in students of the Faculty of Health, Nahdlatul Ulama University, Surabaya. The method in this study is correlational analytic which examines the relationship between variables with a cross sectional study approach. The sample in this study were students of the Faculty of Health, Nahdlatul Ulama University, Surabaya, which consisted of 4 study programs with a total of 39 samples. The sampling technique was stratified random sampling with the criteria of active students from the Faculty of Health, Nahdlatul Ulama University, Surabaya, aged 18-27 years and had menstruated. Analysis of the research data using the Spearman Rank Test. The results of the physical activity research of 39 respondents, had a light category as many as 22 (56.4%), a moderate category as many as 15 (38.5%), and a heavy category as many as 2 (5.1%). The results of the research that have been carried out show as many as 16 (41.0%) respondents do not experience PMS, and as many as 23 (59.0%) respondents experience PMS. The results of the bivariate analysis are known to be Sig. (2-tailed) of 0.000 is smaller than 0.1, meaning that there is a significant relationship between physical activity and the incidence of PMS. The correlation coefficient is 0.938, meaning that the level of strength of the relationship between physical activity and the incidence of PMS is very strong. The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between physical activity and the incidence of PMS with a strong relationship level. It is expected that female students can carry out regular physical activity by exercising for 30 minutes for 4-6 times a week, or walking one hour per day, in order to improve health and reduce the impact of PMS.

Abstract

Hypertension in the elderly is a global problem that causes a decrease in quality of life and sudden death. Instrumental music therapy and dangdut music therapy are non-pharmacological therapeutic solutions to reduce blood pressure and depression scores among the elderly. This type of research is a quasi-experimental approach (one group pretest and posttest design). The sample used was all the elderly at Wisma Mawar, Wisma Melati, Wisma Sakura, and Wisma Teratai UPT PSTW Jember totaling 60 elderly. Elderly in Wisma Mawar, Wisma Melati, Wisma Sakura, and Wisma Teratai UPT PSTW Jember 37 elderly are female, and 23 elderly are male, 50% aged 61-70 years. There were 46 elderly people with hypertension with systolic blood pressure of 130-180 mmHg (76.7%). The results of statistical tests, namely that there were significant differences in systolic blood pressure and depression scores in the elderly, showed that instrumental and dangdut music therapy was quite effective in reducing blood pressure and depression scores in the elderly. Hypertension and depression in the elderly can be reduced using nonpharmacological therapies such as instrumental music therapy and dangdut music therapy because they can relax the body and mind and improve blood vessels. conclusion. Instrumental music therapy and dangdut music therapy are effective in reducing blood pressure and depression scores in the elderly so that they can improve the quality of life of the elderly. Instrumental music therapy and dangdut music therapy need to be included in the PSTW training program, which can be done regularly, so that it can control blood pressure and depression scores in the elderly.

Abstract

Self-medication with antibiotics elevates the threat of resistance, which increases morbidity and mortality. Antibiotic resistance (AMR) in humans must be avoided and reduced. The objective of this community service was to educate housewives about the crucial role of restricting self-medication with antibiotics in the fight against AMR. On March 14, 2023, the Department of Pharmacy at Bali International University executed this community service. The health education intervention was carried out in Banjar Pinda, Gianyar Regency. At least 79 housewives were attending. The event went well, and participants interacted with the presenters enthusiastically. It is implied that community service in Banjar Pinda-Gianyar imparts knowledge about health and the importance of AMR awareness. This program should be expanded to involve other community groups such as craftsmen, the elderly, and young people.

Family support can improve adherence to treatment of the elderly through monitoring and providing encouragement to individuals undergoing treatment. Method: a case study by providing nursing care to two assisted families for 3 weeks with health education interventions, progressive muscle relaxation therapy and slow stroke back massage therapy. Results and Discussion: The results showed a correlation of 0.000 and sig.
