Abstract

Aggressive behavior in adolescents has become a serious problem in Indonesia, with data showing a significant increase in recent years. This study aims to reveal the picture of aggressive behavior of students in Junior High Schools (SMP) in Sindue District. Using a descriptive quantitative method, this study involved 524 eighth grade students from five SMPs selected through proportional random sampling. Data collection was conducted using a Likert scale instrument with 22 items, supported by interviews and documentation. The results showed that the scores of students' aggressive behavior were in the high category in all schools studied. The forms of aggressive behavior identified included verbal aggression (insulting, swearing), physical aggression (hitting, fighting), and destruction of school facilities. This study found five main characteristics of aggressive behavior: attacking behavior, unwanted behavior by the target, violation of social norms, hostility, and learned/imitated behavior. In conclusion, the high level of aggressive behavior among junior high school students requires immediate intervention through programs such as counseling, anger management, and social skills training, as well as active involvement from schools, parents, and mental health professionals.

Abstract

Smoking behavior is one of the negative behaviors exhibited by high school students, with previous studies indicating a high prevalence of this behavior. This study aims to analyze the impact of smoking behavior among students and to identify the efforts made by the school to address student smoking. The researcher employed a qualitative case study approach, involving nine informants: seven students, one homeroom teacher, and one deputy head of student affairs. The research was conducted at one of the Tarbiyah Islamiyah Madrasah in a rural area. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The data analysis technique used was the Miles & Huberman interactive model, including a process for checking data validity. The research findings are as follows: (1) The impact of smoking behavior on students is significant in terms of health, with frequent coughing, fatigue, drowsiness during lessons, headaches, sore throats, hoarseness, frequent nausea, and weight loss reported. Academically, smoking behavior leads to decreased concentration and lower academic achievement. (2) Efforts to address this behavior include collaboration between the homeroom teacher and the deputy head of student affairs, who work together to prevent students from leaving the school premises and impose sanctions on smoking students, such as fines, memorization of Qur’an verses, and warning points. If a student accumulates 100 points, they are expelled. This finding underscores the importance of preventive counseling services in schools. Counselors can design a smoking behavior prevention program that includes regular counseling on the negative impacts of smoking on health, academics, and social life.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of counselors in providing spiritual counseling services to reduce bullying trauma among students in Islamic higher education institutions. The research design employs a quantitative approach using a survey method. The participants are lecturers from the Islamic Education Guidance and Counseling Department at State Islamic Higher Education Institutions. Data collection instruments include a questionnaire measuring lecturers' readiness and understanding in implementing spiritual counseling. The data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis. The findings indicate that the majority of lecturers feel prepared to provide spiritual counseling services, as reflected in their experience, knowledge, and confidence in integrating Islamic values into the counseling process. However, there is a subset of lecturers who are not fully prepared, highlighting the need for ongoing professional training and support. Despite a high interest in spiritual counseling, its implementation in practice, particularly in addressing bullying cases, remains suboptimal. These findings suggest a gap between interest and practice, emphasizing the importance of developing relevant and practical spiritual counseling models. Overall, the results reinforce the argument that Islam-based spiritual counseling, which incorporates values such as patience, sincerity, reliance on God, and self-purification, can be an effective approach to mitigating the psychological impacts of bullying

Abstract

This qualitative study examines the process of strengthening teacher integrity through collaborative academic supervision at SDN 047/XI Koto Baru. This research was motivated by the importance of strengthening character education as a benchmark for improving national education, with teacher integrity as one of its main pillars. The aim is to describe the process of strengthening teacher integrity through a collaborative supervision approach that is collegial, supportive, and partnership-based. The findings are expected to serve as a reference for other schools. This study used a qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. The research informants were the principal and teachers. The collected data were analyzed through the stages of reduction, presentation, conclusion drawing, and verification. Data validity was tested using source, technique, and time triangulation techniques. The results of the study show several key findings. The actual condition of teacher integrity in this school was initially characterized by a lack of responsibility in managing learning, low discipline, and weak commitment to the school's vision and mission. After the implementation of collaborative supervision, there was an increase in teachers' motivation to innovate in learning, competence in preparing learning tools, strengthening of work ethic and responsibility, and improved discipline. The obstacles encountered included teachers' lack of ability to operate information technology, limited time to attend online workshops, and inadequate facilities and infrastructure. In conclusion, collaborative academic supervision has proven to be effective in strengthening teacher integrity, as evidenced by significant improvements in their responsibility, discipline, and professional work ethic. This approach offers a practical solution for schools seeking to foster a culture of integrity and professionalism in the workplace.

Abstract

This study explores the contribution of extracurricular art activities in strengthening students’ creative character through the Cumo Pulai Art Studio at SMAN 4 Sungai Penuh, Jambi, Indonesia. Character education is a central mission of national education, emphasizing not only academic excellence but also moral, social, and creative capacities needed in the 21st century. Creativity, defined as originality, flexibility, elaboration, and problem-solving ability, is an essential competence; however, preliminary observations indicated that students in the art studio often lacked initiative, showed low motivation, and produced limited original works. This study aimed to examine the processes of strengthening creative character, the outcomes achieved, and the factors that support or hinder the implementation of the program. Employing a qualitative descriptive design, data were collected through observations, semi-structured interviews with students, teachers, and studio coaches, and document analysis. Participants were selected purposively from students actively engaged in the art studio. Data were analysed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that the Cumo Pulai Art Studio created a conducive learning environment where students enhanced originality through choreography and music composition, improved collaboration through group performance, and developed discipline and responsibility by following structured rehearsals. The program also fostered cultural preservation by encouraging students to value and reinterpret local traditions in creative ways. Despite these benefits, challenges such as limited facilities, lack of skilled instructors, and inconsistent student attendance were identified. The study concludes that extracurricular art education can significantly strengthen creative character and cultural appreciation, suggesting that integrating such programs into schools offers an effective strategy for holistic student development.

Abstract

This study explores the strategies employed by teachers at State Islamic Elementary School 1 Merangin in cultivating greeting practices as a means of fostering students’ friendly character. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with the school principal, teachers, and students, as well as document analysis of instructional activities and school-based cultural programs. The findings reveal three major points. First, greeting practices are regarded as crucial in shaping students’ friendly character. They contribute to the development of positive social relations, strengthen etiquette, reduce conflicts, and nurture a welcoming personality. Second, teachers adopt various strategies to instill greeting habits, including socialization and internalization of greeting culture, introducing the meaning and benefits of greetings, serving as role models, and implementing evaluation and reward systems. Third, the outcomes of these strategies are evident in the consistent practice of greetings among students, the establishment of a friendly classroom atmosphere, improved relationships between students and teachers, and a noticeable reduction of potential conflicts. This study underscores the pivotal role of teachers as agents of character education in Islamic elementary schools. It highlights how simple yet consistent practices such as greetings can effectively integrate social values, etiquette, and Islamic morality into daily school life. The findings have broader implications for Islamic education, suggesting that greeting-based character education can nurture a generation of students characterized by friendliness, respect, and strong moral integrity.
