Abstract

Survey results show that the main cause of blindness is cataracts. The only definitive therapy for cataract patients is surgery. However, not all patients who have undergone surgery will achieve the desired visual improvement and therefore affect the patient's quality of life. To determine the description of visual acuity and refractive errors in patients after cataract surgery at the JEC-Orbita Makassar Eye Hospital in 2022. This research is a descriptive study with a cross sectional approach using secondary data from the medical records of patients who have had cataract surgery at the JEC Eye Hospital -Orbita Makassar in 2022. Results: Visual acuity at H+1 post-surgery mostly showed blind vision (32.3%), at H+7 post-surgery most showed normal vision (43%), and at H+30 post-surgery the majority showed normal vision (68.8%). The refractive errors found were 17.2% hypermetropia, 10.8% AHS, 9.7% AMS, 9.7% AM, 8.6% AHC, and 1.1% myopia. Conclusion: Visual acuity after cataract surgery shows significant improvement and continues to improve with increasing length of control time. Large parts of post-operative refractive error show hypermetropia, then AHS, AMS, AM, AHC and myopia sequentially.

Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus is a bacteria that causes infections that must be treated with antibiotics. Another alternative that can be done to deal with this resistance is to use herbal ingredients as the basis for therapy. The development of research on natural ingredients as antibacterials shows that there are plants that have the potential to act as antibacterial agents. Fig leaves or figs (Ficus carica L.) are a plant that has the potential to be an antioxidant, antiviral, anthelmintic and antibacterial. Fig leaf extract (Ficus carica L.) shows antibacterial activity against the growth of several bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus. This literature aims to determine the effect of fig leaves as an antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This literature uses a literature review method with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews & Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) protocol. Scientific articles or journals downloaded from PubMed, Garuda Portal, and Google Scholar with SINTA accreditation standards in the 2020-2023 time period found 430 articles in the search results. All articles were selected based on the inclusion criteria, resulting in 20 research articles that would be reviewed. The antibacterial potential of fig leaves in the inhibition zone uses ethanol compounds, phenolic flavonoids, ethyl acetate, nickel oxide nanoparticles and Calcium Oxide Phyto-Nanoparticles (CaONPs) which have been proven effective in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococus aureus. Fig leaves are effectively used as an antibacterial for Staphylococcus aureus, showing that they can prevent the growth of bacteria with several compounds contained therein such as Ethanol extract, Phenolic Flavonoids, Ethyl Acetate, Nickel Oxide Nano Particles and Calcium Oxide Phyto-Nanoparticles (CaONPs) which have antibacterial properties.

Abstract

Anti-aging treatments have become a major focus in the beauty industry, with anti-aging creams being one of the most sought after products to treat the signs of skin aging. This cream is formulated with the aim of inhibiting the premature aging process, reducing the appearance of wrinkles, and disguise skin imperfections. Natural ingredients with antioxidant activity have been in the spotlight in the development of anti-aging cream formulations, due to their ability to fight skin damage caused by free radicals. In an effort to identify effective cream formulations, the literature review method was used to evaluate various relevant reference sources. This literature review revealed several natural ingredients that have anti-aging potential, such as tamarind leaf extract, banana peel, purple eggplant, and moringa leaves, as well as ylang-ylang oil and lemon oil. In addition, fruits such as rambutan and lemon, as well as red spinach leaves, also stand out for their high antioxidant content, including vitamin C and lycopene. This research provides insight into the various natural ingredients that can be used in anti-aging cream formulations, leading to the development of more effective and environmentally friendly products in caring for skin.

Abstract

Glomerulonephritis (GN) is a heterogeneous disorder characterized by glomerular compartment damage of the nephron mediated by autoimmunity. Secondary GN can occur for the patients with systemic autoimmune disease and has higher prevalence of peripheral artery disease. Symptoms and signs of GN are characterized by periorbital oedema accompanied by leg oedema, massive proteinuria, decreased renal function, hypertension, hematuria and erythrocyte casts. We reported a 40 years old female patient found with anasarca oedema, pain in the right foot, and proteinuria who had a history of systemic lupus erythematosus for 7 years. On physical examination, we found hypertensive urgency, anasarca oedem and blackish ulcus on the dorsal pedis extremity dextra. Laboratory data showed hypoalbuminemia, hypernatremia, creatinine clearance 19.38 ml/min, and albumin creatinine ratio 18.949 mg albumin/gr cr, ANA profile arthritis + 4.2. Urynalysis showed massive proteinuria, erythrocytes and casts were present. CT angiography showed the impression of peripheral artery disease.
