Abstract

Chronological thinking is a crucial skill in history learning, as it enables students to understand the sequence of time and the logical relationship between historical events. Preliminary observations at SMA Negeri 1 Martapura revealed that many students still face difficulties in this aspect, partly due to the limited use of interactive learning media. This study aims to analyze the effect of using domino card media on students’ chronological thinking skills. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design using a nonequivalent control group. The sample consisted of class X.2 as the experimental group and class X.4 as the control group. The research instrument was a set of 21 multiple-choice questions that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was conducted using normality, homogeneity, and t-tests with the assistance of IBM SPSS 25. The results showed that the average pretest score of the experimental class was 65.25, which increased to 84.57 in the posttest, while the control class only increased slightly from 66.89 to 69.18. The independent sample t-test revealed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that historical domino card media has a significant effect on improving students’ chronological thinking skills in history learning.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are crucial for students in history learning. However, high school teachers often use conventional learning methods that make students less active in history learning. Therefore, innovative and interactive learning models are needed to help improve their critical thinking skills. This study aims to determine the effect of using the project-based learning model on critical thinking skills in history learning for grade XI students at SMA Negeri 1 Alalak. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a nonequivalent control group design. The research sample consisted of two classes: an experimental class using the Project-Based Learning model with 31 students and a control class using the problem-based learning model with 31 students. The research instrument was an essay test that had been tested for validity, reliability, difficulty level, and discriminatory power. Data were analyzed using normality, homogeneity, and t-tests with the help of IBM SPSS 29 software. Based on the results of the data analysis, there was an increase in learning outcomes in both the control and experimental classes, but the experimental class showed a more significant increase. In the control class, the average pretest score of 74.35 increased to 78.55 in the posttest, while in the experimental class the average pretest score of 78.55 increased to 85.48 in the posttest with a difference of 6.93 points. The normality test showed that the data was normally distributed (Sig. > 0.05), the homogeneity test showed that the data variance was homogeneous (Sig. 0.144 > 0.05), and the hypothesis test through the Independent Samples Test produced a p-value of 0.001 < 0.05. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of the Project-Based Learning learning model has a significant effect in improving the critical thinking skills of class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Alalak.

Abstract

This study aims to critically examine the historical dynamics of the Khulafaur Rasyidin period as the initial phase of the formation of the Islamic government system. The four caliphs Abu Bakar, Umar, Uthman, and Ali ruled in a highly diverse and tense socio-political context. Analysis shows that this period was not entirely stable and harmonious, but rather fraught with internal crises such as elite conflicts, regional rebellions, and social fragmentation. Uthman bin Affan's leadership was marked by nepotism and public discontent that sparked open rebellion, while Ali bin Abi Talib's reign took place amid civil war and the emergence of armed opposition movements such as the Khawarij. This study utilises a historical-critical approach with classical Islamic sources and narrative analysis of power dynamics to demonstrate that the history of the Khulafaur Rasyidin needs to be understood in a more contextual manner. The results of this research are expected to enrich the discourse on Islamic political history by emphasising the importance of examining the complexity of social realities and the challenges of post Prophet governance.

Abstract

Tulang Bawang Regency possesses numerous historical buildings that hold significant cultural and educational value. However, this potential has not been optimally utilized as a learning resource for Social Studies (IPS), resulting in students lacking contextual learning experiences based on local history. This study aims to identify historical buildings in Tulang Bawang Regency and explore their potential as learning resources for Social Studies. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through field observations, interviews with local historians, and documentation as well as other relevant written sources. Data analysis in this study followed three gradual activities: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings reveal that in Menggala there are several buildings with historical value such as Masjid Kibang, Gedung Perwatin, the Post Office Building, the Tulang Bawang River dock, the House of Prince Warganegara, the tombs of Minak Ngengulung Sakti and Minak Sengaji, and Tangga Raja. These findings indicate that the buildings possess educational values relevant to the Social Studies curriculum under the Merdeka Curriculum. These historical sites can be linked to topics such as social interaction and social status, geographical conditions and natural resource conservation, and the development of Islam and culture in Indonesia. Therefore, utilizing these sites as learning resources can enrich students’ knowledge while fostering appreciation for local history. Integrating historical buildings into Social Studies learning can serve as an innovative and contextual strategy.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the project-based learning (PjBL) model on the learning motivation and critical thinking skills of fourth-grade students in social studies at UPT SDN 23 Centre Takalar 1. According to Afriana, et al, (2016), the PJBL model is a learning model that uses projects as the core of learning. This study employs a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consists of 30 fourth-grade students who were exposed to the PjBL learning model. Learning motivation data was collected through a validated questionnaire, while critical thinking skills were measured using pretest-posttest questions relevant to the topic of population search. Data were analyzed using normality, homogeneity, and T-tests to determine significant differences between pretest and posttest scores. The results showed a significant increase in students' learning motivation, with the average score rising from 58.447 to 84.76 (p = 0.000), and in their critical thinking skills, with the average score increasing from 60.230 to 79.450 (p = 0.000). The application of the PjBL learning model provides a contextual and challenging learning experience, enabling students to become more active, motivated, and capable of critical thinking in completing real-world projects. Thus, the project-based learning model is effective in enhancing students' learning motivation and critical thinking skills in social studies for fourth-grade elementary school students.

Abstract

The implementation of the independent curriculum provides teachers with the freedom to design adaptive, contextual, and needs-based learning. However, the reality on the ground indicates that teachers still face various obstacles that directly affect the teaching and learning process. This study was conducted at MTsN 3 in Palu City with the aim of identifying and analyzing the challenges faced by social studies teachers in implementing the independent curriculum. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that there are three main obstacles faced by teachers: difficulties in developing lesson modules based on learning achievements (CP), challenges in implementing active learning in heterogeneous classrooms, and limitations in facilities and technology proficiency. As a result, the learning process often does not proceed optimally, learning outcomes are not fully achieved, and student motivation declines. Additionally, the lack of training and insufficient teaching materials exacerbate the situation. This research recommends the need for continuous training, the provision of adequate facilities, and collaboration among teachers through working groups as strategic efforts to address the challenges of curriculum implementation. These findings contribute significantly to the development of educational policies that are more responsive to the needs of teachers at the educational unit level. Further research could explore in greater depth the effectiveness of teacher mentoring strategies in the comprehensive and sustainable implementation of the independent curriculum.
