Abstract

This study explores the implementation of digital media in transforming 21st-century history learning. The main problems identified include the limited optimal use of digital media in history lessons, the lack of learning models that align with local characteristics, and teachers’ challenges in adapting to technology, which are further exacerbated by technical constraints such as unstable internet connections in schools. Adopting a qualitative approach with a case study design, this research aims to analyze the use of digital media—such as videos, infographics, and interactive simulations—and its impact on student engagement. Data were collected through triangulation methods, including interviews, observations, documentation, and questionnaires, with data validity ensured through source triangulation and member checking. The findings reveal that the implementation of digital media by history teachers, applied in varied and integrated ways, has enhanced students’ enthusiasm and engagement. Students demonstrated greater focus when watching videos, showed excitement during discussions, and reported that lessons became more interesting, which increased their motivation to learn. Effective visualization helped students better understand complex concepts while fostering 21st-century skills, including collaboration, critical thinking, communication, and creativity, consistent with Constructivist Theory and the application of TPACK. This study recommends developing learning models tailored to local characteristics, improving infrastructure, and providing continuous teacher training to optimize the digitalization of history learning.

Abstract

History learning in the digital era requires teachers to adapt their teaching strategies to the characteristics of students who are accustomed to technological environments. This study aims to examine the challenges and strategies of history teachers in utilizing digital learning media at SMKN 1 Banjarmasin. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Informants consisted of two history teachers and ten students from grades X and XI who were directly involved in digital-based learning practices. The findings identified four main challenges: limited technological infrastructure, low digital competence among teachers, psychological barriers such as anxiety over technical disruptions, and time constraints due to administrative burdens. The strategies implemented by teachers included self-directed learning through online resources, peer collaboration, involving students in technical support, and using easily accessible digital media. In addition, some teachers integrated digital media with interactive methods such as quizzes and historical role-playing. These findings indicate that teachers are still able to innovate despite existing limitations. Future researchers are advised to further examine the effectiveness of these strategies on learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of a Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)-based history learning model within the framework of the Merdeka Curriculum to overcome the dominance of rote learning that still prevalent in history education practices of history education in Indonesia. This study uses a library research approach with a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) framework to analyze the literature related to the implementation of three learning models: Inquiry Based Learning (IBL), Problem Based Learning (PBL), and Project Based Learning (PjBL) in history learning. Relevant publications were analyzed using thematic content analysis techniques with source triangulation to ensure the validity of the findings. The results showed that the three learning models proved effective in improving students' higher-order thinking skills in the domains of analysis, evaluation, and creation through historical information retrieval activities, complex historical problem solving, and project creation in learning. However, the implementation faces major obstacles in the form of limited teacher readiness in designing HOTS instruments, inadequate technological infrastructure, and suboptimal policy support. The research concludes that the implementation of the HOTS model requires a systemic approach through continuous teacher capacity building, digital infrastructure development, and alignment of assessment policies that support the transformation of history learning towards a critical and creative thinking paradigm.

Abstract

Student-centered learning models are believed to deepen understanding and increase student engagement in learning activities. To support this, the government developed the Independent Curriculum, which provides cues to teachers in delivering material and encourages the use of various learning strategies. This study aims to examine the effect of the implementation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) on the cognitive learning outcomes of seventh-grade students in social studies at MTsN 3 Pesisir Selatan, and to assess the extent to which PBL can increase student participation during the learning process. This quantitative research used an experimental method and purposive sampling technique. Data were obtained through observation and tests, then analyzed using normality, homogeneity, hypothesis testing, and N-Gain tests. The results showed that the PBL model had a significant effect on students' cognitive achievement. The Mann-Whitney U test showed a significant difference between the experimental and control classes, with a significance level of <0.001. The N-Gain analysis showed an increase in learning outcomes of 22% in the experimental class (categorized as quite effective) and only 6% in the control class (categorized as ineffective). These findings indicate that PBL is an innovative learning alternative that is feasible to implement, especially in social studies.

Abstract

The teachers' lack of knowledge regarding learning models and media makes students less active in learning. Students' lack of focus in following the lesson due to talking with their friends results in poor learning outcomes, especially in science and science process skills. This type of research is quantitative pre-experimental with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects in this study were 28 fifth-grade students at SD 4 Jekulo. Data collection instruments included test sheets, observation sheets, interview sheets, and documentation. Data analysis techniques used normality tests and hypothesis tests with paired sample t-tests and n-gain tests. The results of the normality test were said to be normally distributed. The paired sample t-test showed a difference in the average results before and after treatment. Science and science process skills learning outcomes were measured using observation sheets at each meeting. There was an increase in science and science process skills learning outcomes in the moderate category. Research using the discovery learning model and pansmaperling media is rarely used because it must be adjusted to the needs and conditions of students. The purpose of this study was to determine the improvement in science and science learning outcomes before and after treatment. Based on this, it can be concluded that the application of the discovery learning model assisted by pansmaperling media can improve science and science process skills learning outcomes.
