Students are expected to be proficient in conducting public speaking using English language. However, many students struggle to speak in front of many people because of the fear that they experience. The present study aimed to examine the fears students experience when speaking in public. This study employed descriptive qualitative study. Qualitative survey was distributed to the students to collect the data. The survey consisted of four questions regarding fear of public speaking. As many as 50 marketing students who had taken public speaking course were asked to fill in the survey. The data collected was examine through qualitative thematic analysis. The results showed four themes extracted from the survey, including nervousness, fears, practice and facilitating practice.

In the industrial revolution 4.0., autonomous learning is considered as a desirable goal in English language teaching and learning in Indonesia. The movement towards learner-centered approaches has resulted in more emphasis on the benefits of learner autonomy in the success of English language teaching and learning. The research examines the capabilities of vocational secondary English teachers in Probolinggo, East java, Indonesia to engage students’ autonomous learning. The term capabilities refers to substantive freedom or opportunities that English teachers hold to do and to be a certain thing that they consider valuable. Data for the study were generated through interviews with twenty vocational secondary English teachers across remote area, urban area, Pesantren and state vocational secondary school. English Teachers were interviewed by autonomous learning issues based on their knowledge and understanding of these issues. Further, data were obtained from classroom observations and analysis of curriculum documents which include the national curriculum framework of Indonesia, English teachers’ syllabi and lesson plans. Data analysis is qualitative. The study revealed that vocational secondary English teachers in Probolinggo are still problematic and facing several challenging particularly in view of autonomous learning which was centered on traditional didactic and teacher-directed modes of delivery. This indicates that Indonesian vocational secondary English teachers in Probolinggo are not effectively engaged in autonomous learning in spite of their concerted efforts to do so.

This article looks critically the comparison between English and French Gender. The problem that will be discussed in this article is: What kind of similarities and differences do they have in gender, especially in distinguishing male from female persons? The significance of the study are to get inputs on gender in English and French in order to improve their ability in understanding gender from both languages . One of the characteristics of Indo-European language is gender, which classifies nouns to express sex distinctions. The following discussion will deal with two forms of gender, natural and grammatical gender, and the ways of showing gender. From the linguistics analysis of English and French gender that has been done in this article and the comparison between them, it can be concluded that both languages have some differences and similarities in the application of gender. The differences are focused on the kinds of gender used, English uses natural gender while French uses grammatical gender. The use of grammatical gender makes French does not have neuter gender. So the inanimate objects are considered to have gender, masculine or feminine, and the ways of showing their gender are afforded by the use of article, le for masculine and la for feminine.

Personality is a form of behavior that is shown by a person as a form of self-introduction that is influenced by customs and culture in the environment where humans live and interact. This research was talking about what personality that Lucy has. The researcher tries to find Lucy’s Personality on Narnia the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe film, which is including on extrovert or introvert child. The purpose of this research is to understand personality in young learners as like Lucy Pevensie. In research, researchers use qualitative research. Qualitative research is research that does not intersect with numbers (count) but rather observes the object under study and then provides a description of the object under study. Researchers use descriptive analysis method, which is to describe phenomena that occur naturally or man-made which focus more on character and quality. The data source that the researcher uses in this thesis is Narnia the Lion the Witch and The Wardrobe film. The researcher used data collection techniques by watching Narnia the Lion the Witch and The Wardrobe film, identifying all the scenes played by Lucy Pevensie and the dialogue in the film to get the data, grouping the data that addresses the problem to be studied, analyzing the data that has been collected and make conclusions due to research. After the data has been collected, the researcher analyzed the data by watching the scene played by Lucy Pevensie and paying attention to the dialogue from the film "NARNIA THE LION THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE" repeatedly until the researcher gets a complete understanding of Lucy's Personality. Selecting and classifying data related to the problem under study. Conducting and analyzing the data collected. The last is drawing a conclusion. The results of this research indicate that the character of Lucy Pevensie is an extrovert. Extrovert is a characteristic of someone who is always active. Lucy's characteristics as extrovert child are brave, high curiosity, easy to interact, open child, forgiving child, care and like to help others, and stubborn.

This study aims to improve the writing skills of students in class XI MIPA in 2 SMAN 7 Kediri through picture series. The objective of the study to know how picture series can improve students’ ability in writing explanation text through Picture Series. CAR is carried out through a cycle consisting of four stages, starting with planning the action, continuing with the action learning and observation activities and ends with a reflection for study and analyze data obtained through action. This research was conducted in one cycle, the criteria of success if 80% of students score above the KKM 75 and with an average score of at least 80. Data were collected from observations, tests, and documentation. The findings in this study found that the use of picture series significantly improved students' writing skills. This can be seen from the average in preliminary test score was 61.75 and the cycle test score of 80.62, increasing to 18,87 based on the criteria of success above, this research considered as successful. This research shows that therefore, using picture series can improve students' writing skills.

Literature is a type of writing that uses language in a special way and can be enjoyed by readers or listeners. There are many types of literary works that can be researched, but this study will only focus on one type of literary work, namely film. Character is an important element in literary works, especially in the world of film. Characters give the important roles to make the story in a film more alive. Studying literature through films will help us learn the characterizations in the story and can learn about the personality, culture and habits of the characters who play in the film. The method of this study is descriptive analytical method. Data and data sources are from the scenes and dialogues in the ―What happened to Monday‖ film which are collected by using documenting technique. The data for the research is all sentences in dialogues and shown in all the scenes of the film which are related to the characters’ characterization and moral messages. The conclusion of this research states that The characterizations of the character that are played by Noomi Rapace are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday who have different characters, and there are two categories of moral messages that the researcher had taken from this film, the relations with oneself and the human relations with other humans in the social sphere..

This study was conducted to know the effectiveness of using ZIZO strategy on students’s reading comprehension in descriptive text according to Karen D. Wood and Janis M. Harmon (2001; 53). This research used quantitative approach with pre-experimental research design. The population of this research was the first grade of Islamic Senior High School Al Wahid Kepung. The sample of this research was X IPA class consisting 20 students. The research instrument was pre-test and post-test with the format of multiple choices consisting 20 items pre-test and post-test. The data analyze by t-test using SPSS version 30. The result of the analysis showed that mean of pre-test was 72.00. And the result of the mean of post-test was 83.25. So, the result of the research was stating that applying using ZIZO strategy in teaching reading comprehension was effective. It was proved by the significant different score of student’s reading comprehension before and after taught by using ZIZO strategy. The significance value was 0.000 and the significance level was 0.05. it means that the significance value was smaller than significance level (0.000 < 0.05). So, the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted and null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. It means that the using of ZIZO strategy gives positive effect to the students’ reading comprehension.

This study aims to investigate the effect of multiple-slot substitution drill on students’ grammar mastery through true experimental research design conducted with an experimental group and a control group. Target population of this study was all the eighth grade students of SMP Islam AL Akbar, Singosari- Malang 2021/2022. The researcher took 46 students as sample of the study, by using saturated sampling, 23 students as experimental group and 23 students as control group. To collect data, she used grammar written post-test with 20 items in multiple-choice format. In analyzing data, she used IBM SPSS statistic versions. 20 application of independent t.test to know the differences between experimental and control groups. After collecting and calculating data, tshe found that mean score and standard deviation of experimental group were 77.39 and 5.41, while mean score of control group was 70.22 and standard deviation was 13.1. In testing hypothesis, she used t-test formula. She found that F value =13.636, Sig (2-tailed)= 0.019 < 0.05, at the level significance of df = 44. So, null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis could be accepted. It means that students taught using multiple-slot substitution drill achieve better than students taught without using multiple-slot substitution drill.

This study aims to analyze types of speech acts and classification of illocutionary speech acts occuring in Habibie and Ainun's conversation in film entitled Habibie and Ainun 2012. This is a qualitative descriptive study conducted on naturalistic investigations of social phenomena. Data were analyzed based on theory of speech acts types put forward by Yule (1996). Analysis of classification of illocutionary speech acts put forward by Searle (1977) which consists of, representative, directive commissive, expressive and declaration. Results of this study indicate that there are five classifications of illocutionary speech acts. It was found that there were a total of 42 utterances analyzed as illocutionary where 5 utterances were representative, 9 declarative utterances, 23 directive utterances, 5 expressive utterances, and no commissive (0%) . This study shows that speech "Break the Glass Ceiling" by Prilly Latuconsina contains various types of speech acts that aim to influence, inspire, and motivate listeners. This speech had a strong impact in raising awareness on gender equality issues and encouraging positive action to achieve success. Implication of this research is studying and mastering pragmatics, especially in speech act theory to be able to understand intent of the speaker so that communication expressed can be fulfilled.

The purpose of this study is to identify the various types of illocutionary act in Selena Gomez's speech "Believe in yourself". There are two main problems in this research: (1) What type the illocutionary act used by Selena Gomez in her speech on YouTube in English? (2) In Selena Gomez's speech, what illocutionary act are you most likely to see? I use a method known as content analysis. There are five types of illocutionary acts: Declaration, Representation, Expressive, Commissive, and Directive. I analyze the speech text by Selena Gomez titled "Believe in yourself." Data from Selena Gomez speeches reveal 51 examples of illocutionary behavior, these five types all illocutionary acts can be found in an utterance: representative statement; directive statement; expressive statement; commissive statement; and declaration statements. And based on this research, It can be said that the dominant illocutionary act style in speech is representative act, and the least is directive act.
