Abstract

Increasing population growth in urban areas is generally accompanied by increasingly narrow job opportunities, causing many urban residents to carry out activities in the informal sectors, such as  small-scale trading activities. These activities are generally carried out by most residents living on theside of the main road. More than 50% of the residents’ houses on Jalan Merdeka Street of Kambang Iwak Palembang have changed their function to a commercial building; thus, it is necessary to conduct research on the trade public space that grows in the area. This research is field research that collectedvisual data and interviews with related parties. Research showed that the emergence of commercial public space in housing is caused by the proximity of the house and the relationship between the house and road space. The trading space functions as a public space, forming attributes in the form of accessibility, visibility, sociality, and adaptability. Commercial public spaces take place in the house and yard because they have proximity, visuality, adaptation, and activity related to public spaces. Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the educational system has changed. This brought a significant shift to class and teaching management as well. Teachers manage their classes in various ways by utilizing digital platforms. This study aims at finding out students’ perspective on using website in the teaching and learning process. This study was conducted by using qualitative approach design, with the descriptive case study method. There were 17 university students at Universitas Teuku Umar who were involved as the respondents in this study. In data collection, an interview set consisting of 6 questions was distributed to students. Later, the data were analyzed using interactive analysis through the three steps, which are data identification, data display, and data verification. The result shows that students have positive feedbacks toward the use of websites during online learning rather than other digital platforms. The reasons are the constant availability, length adequacy, and completeness. The implication of this study is that it is more preferrable for students to learn by using websites—or better known as e-learning system—rather than other platforms. The results show that theaverage value of individual mastery increased from cycle I to cycle II. In the first cycle, the averageindividual mastery value is 73% (16 students), while 27% (6 students) did not reach mastery levelrequirement.
