Abstract

Based on this study, the learning outcomes of Catholic Religious Education (PAK) for seventh-grade students at SMP Santo Antonius Bangun Mulia Medan will be evaluated for its effectiveness using the CORE Learning Model. Over two research cycles, 26 students participated in this action research using the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method. In addition to tracking the learning process, data were collected through pre- and post-tests. Empirical evidence shows that the CORE Learning Model can significantly improve student learning outcomes. Cycle I obtained an average post-test score of 88.2, while Cycle II obtained an average post-test score of 96.3. Compared to the previous average pre-test scores of 63.3 and 89, these figures indicate progress. These findings are consistent with previous research showing the effectiveness of the CORE Learning Model in increasing student engagement and academic performance. The conclusion of this study is that the CORE Learning Model can serve as a tool to enhance student learning outcomes in PAK and promote the development of more engaging and effective teaching strategies. This research aims to assist academics and educators in developing innovative and effective teaching methods.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are vital for students' intellectual development. This article examines the importance of critical thinking in education, focusing on factors influencing students' abilities and effective learning methods to enhance them. The study evaluates students' critical thinking abilities before and after using the Probing-Prompting learning model at Santo Antonius Bangun Mulia Middle School, Medan. This model was chosen for its ability to stimulate thinking processes and develop critical thinking skills. Key indicators for measuring critical thinking abilities, such as analysis, evaluation, inference, explanation, and skepticism, are discussed. The article also explores internal and external factors affecting these abilities. The Probing-Prompting model is described as stimulating students' thinking through a series of problem-solving questions, detailing the interactions between teachers and students. The research, conducted through classroom action research (PTK) with two cycles, involved 26 class VII students. Results show an increase in students' critical thinking abilities after implementing the model. These findings aim to contribute to theoretical understanding and offer practical benefits for educators to improve education quality.

Abstract

Transformasi Katekese Kontekstual ke dalam era digital menjadi penting dalam menghadapi tantangan yang dihadapi dalam mengadaptasi katekese kontekstual ke dalam konteks digital. Era digital telah mengubah lanskap pembelajaran dan komunikasi dengan mempengaruhi cara orang memperoleh, memproses, dan membagikan informasi. Dalam menghadapi perubahan ini, katekese kontekstual perlu menyesuaikan diri dengan penekanan pada konteks budaya, sosial, dan personal. Implikasi dan tantangan yang signifikan terkait dengan transformasi ini terlihat dalam era digital. Era digital memungkinkan aksesibilitas dan fleksibilitas pembelajaran yang lebih luas dengan penggunaan media yang beragam dan kolaborasi online antara pengajar dan peserta didik. Namun, kesenjangan digital menjadi tantangan dalam memastikan akses yang merata bagi semua individu. Integrasi nilai-nilai iman ke dalam konteks digital juga menuntut keseimbangan yang baik antara teknologi dan tradisi teologis. Untuk menghadapi tantangan ini, diperlukan pendekatan holistik yang menggabungkan keahlian teologis, pemahaman budaya dan teknologi, serta kolaborasi antara gereja dan ahli teknologi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah dengan adanya transformasi yang bijaksana, katekese kontekstual dalam era digital dapat menyampaikan pesan iman yang relevan dan berarti bagi generasi digital saat ini. Metode yang peneliti pakai adalah kualitatif yaitu dari hasil observasi serta mengambil acuan juga dari beberapa sumber karya ilmial seperti, jurnal, artikel, dan sumber ilmiah lainya.

Abstract

This study was conducted to enhance the learning motivation of Grade VIII students at SMPN 2 Sungai Kunyit in the subject of Catholic Religious Education (PAK), which was deemed low. The study employed the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model as an intervention. Classroom Action Research (CAR) was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of the study were 10 Grade VIII students at SMPN 2 Sungai Kunyit for the 2023/2024 academic year. Data were collected through observation sheets and student motivation questionnaires. The results showed a significant increase in student learning motivation from the pre-cycle, Cycle I, to Cycle II. In the pre-cycle stage, students' learning motivation reached only 30%. During Cycle I, learning motivation dropped to 20% due to suboptimal implementation of the model, with the success indicator set at 80%. After reflection and improvements, in Cycle II, students' learning motivation sharply increased to 90%. In conclusion, the application of the Problem-Based Learning model proved effective in enhancing students' learning motivation in the material "Jesus Proclaims the Kingdom of God Through Actions or Miracles" in Grade VIII at SMPN 2 Sungai Kunyit.

Abstract

This article discusses the role of catechesis in the proclamation of the faith of the Catholic Church, with a focus on youth participation. Catechesis is a form of faith proclamation, with the center being the development and proclamation of faith values about Jesus Christ. This article aims to highlight the relevance of the role of young people in catechesis, as well as the objectives and methods of the proclamation of faith carried out through catechesis. The author uses a methodology through theological reflection, taking into account various aspects of the spiritual life of Catholics such as the experience of God and the understanding of Church teachings. The findings of this article emphasize the important role of young people in the proclamation of faith, both personally and communally. Catechesis is considered an important tool in honing and strengthening the faith of young people, as well as helping them take an active part in proclaiming the teachings of the faith. The novelty of this article is the emphasis on the existence of young people as the vanguard of the Church, who have great potential to bring change and renewal in proclaiming the faith. The relevance of this article lies in the urgency of paying attention to the role of young people in catechesis as an integral part of the Church's mission, as well as the importance of facilitating and supporting their participation in the proclamation of the faith.

Abstract

The focus of this article is the maternal role of Mary in the pastoral care of the laity and its implications for Catholic religious teachers. The laity are called to serve and proclaim the kingdom of God. One of the duties of lay people is to become Catholic religious teachers. The presence of Catholic religious teachers both in schools and in the community is very important. Today the crucial challenge is the lack of faithfulness in giving life testimony. Teaching activities at school are just a formality so they do not have a positive influence on students. Catholic religious teachers are less aware of their calling as teachers. In response to this problem, it is very important to learn from Mary's loyalty as a mother and teacher who faithfully accompanied her son until the end. Loyalty, patience, testimony of life should continue to be lived by Catholic religious teachers in teaching activities in the classroom and in the community. The method used in this writing is literature (literature review) analyzing previous research that is relevant to the theme discussed. This article aims to increase awareness of the importance of Mary's faithfulness in the pastoral work of lay people, especially Catholic  teachers. Abstract

Catholic education is an understanding of education that is imbued with Christian spirituality. It can take the form of managing educational institutions such as Catholic schools and colleges; Catholic Religious Education can also be a means of providing subjects and courses in the realm of Catholic religion. The Catholic Church is an institution that considers education as a means of preaching with a clear concept. The rules, meaning, and perspectives of Catholic education are very important. Documents of the Church such as the Gravisimus Educationis, the Book of Canon Law, and Educating  Today and  Tomorrow: A Renewing   Passion (Instrumentum Laboris) provide evidence of the Church's attention to education. The purpose of this study is to reconsider the conception of education from the perspective of the Church in particular. The conception of Catholic Education must be able to act contextually by paying attention to various challenges such as the development of the times and establish cooperation with various parties

Abstract

The low student attendance in Catholic Religious Education class indicates a challenge in fostering learning interest and the effectiveness of teaching methods. This study aims to analyze the influence of the reflective model and learning interest towards the outcomes of Catholic faith education among junior and senior high school students in Bengkulu city. The research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample consists of 102 students selected purposively from a total of 144 students. Data was collected using a Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed through multiple regression using SPSS software. The results show that the reflective model does not have a significant effect on learning outcomes, while learning interest tends to have a positive influence, though not statistically significant. Simultaneously, these two variables do not significantly impact the outcomes of Catholic faith education. These findings confirm that the results of Catholic faith education are not solely determined by pedagogical factors but also by the depth of spiritual reflection and the motivation to teach in a more reflective, participatory manner that fosters a living faith experience aligned with the spirit of Evangelii Gaudium no. 11

Abstract

This study aims to understand parents' motivations in choosing Catholic schools as a means of fostering inclusive attitudes towards social differences in children, particularly in the context of Indonesia's multicultural society. This study used a qualitative approach with a narrative design. Meanwhile, purposeful sampling was used to select five parents of students involved in the study. In-depth interviews were conducted with parents of students at SMK Pius X Magelang, Central Java. The results of the study show that parents' motivation in choosing Catholic schools is not only because of their academic reputation, but also because of the values of discipline, morality, openness, and love that are instilled. However, there are challenges faced, such as relatively high education costs, issues of exclusivity, and concerns about Christianisation. However, Catholic schools are still considered capable of having a positive impact on children, especially in shaping integrity, creativity, and tolerance. These findings are in line with Durkheim's social structure theory, which emphasises the function of education in maintaining social order, as well as Freire's critical pedagogy theory, which emphasises dialogue, critical awareness, and liberation. Previous studies also reinforce that Catholic schools play an important role in instilling the values of pluralism and character education in a diverse society. Thus, Catholic schools have great potential as strategic partners for parents in building a generation that is superior, has integrity, and is inclusive.

Abstract

The background of this study is the increasing of exclusivism in religious education, which has led to a decline in students’ tolerant and inclusive attitudes. The purpose of this research is to assess the effectiveness of the Love-Based Curriculum in shaping a tolerant and inclusive generation. This research employed a library-based method by reviewing books, journals, and relevant scientific reports that discussed the relationship between love, education, and character formation. The data were analyzed using content analysis techniques to identify patterns of meaning and the relevance of love values in education. The findings indicated that the Love-Based Curriculum plays a strategic role in fostering interfaith human awareness and provides a conceptual contribution to the development of a humanistic model of religious education grounded in the values of love. The conclusion of this study is that love can transform into a pedagogical foundation in religious education to build tolerant and inclusive character. The research shows that when love is made a curriculum principle, it works not only as a moral value but also as a pedagogical mechanism capable of transcending religious and ideological barriers.
