Abstract

Gynura procumbens, commonly known as sambung nyawa, holds substantial medicinal value attributed to its diverse chemical compounds, including flavonoids, unsaturated sterols, triterpenoids, polyphenols, saponins, steroids, chlorogenic, caffeic, vanillic, para-coumaric acids, hydroxy benzoic acids, and essential oils. This study investigates the impact of NPK fertilizer dosages on sambung nyawa's antioxidant levels and antimicrobial activities. The research employed a Non-Factorial Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with one treatment factor - NPK fertilizer dosage (N) at four levels. Results revealed significant effects of NPK fertilizer doses on leaf and total plant weights. Higher doses notably enhanced antimicrobial activity against various bacteria strains like E. coli, B. cereus, E. aerugenes, L. innocua, and S. aureus. Additionally, the plant exhibited strong antioxidant capabilities, demonstrating an IC50 DPPH scavenging activity of 2.112 mg/ml. This investigation provides crucial insights into optimizing NPK fertilizer dosages to boost sambung nyawa's antioxidant content and antimicrobial potency. The findings hold promise for agricultural practices and the potential utilization of this plant in health and medicinal realms.

Abstract

Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate the impact of oil palm bed ash at different doses on the growth and yield of black soybean plants (Glycine soja L.) in different types of soil. A Factorial Randomized Group Design (RAK) with two factors was used in this study. The first factor is the application of oil palm bed ash, a byproduct of burning palm fruit bunches. The second factor is the type of soil used in the experiment. The study's results indicate that andosol and alluvial soil types produce higher 100 seed weight, dry seed weight per plant, dry seed weight per plot, and number of pods per plot compared to ultisol soil and have a faster flowering age. However, these soil types have no significant effect on plant height, the number of productive branches, and plant root length. The combination of palm kernel ash and soil type had a significant effect on 100 seed weight, dry seed weight per plant, dry seed weight per plot, and number of pods per plot. However, this combination had no significant effect on plant height, flowering age, the number of productive branches, and root length. The largest dry seed weight per plot was observed in the K3M2 treatment combination at 78.25 g, and the smallest dry weight per sample was in the K0M1 treatment combination at 47.93 g. This resulted in a 30.32 g increase in dry seed weight per plot (63.27%). The utilization of palm kernel ash at a dosage of 375 g/polybag leads to a 34.26% increase in the dry seed weight per plant, a 30.20% increase in dry seed weight per plot, and a 42.06% increase in the number of pods per plot compared to plants without palm kernel ash application.

Abstract

Soybean (Glycine max L.) production can be increased through the introduction of colchicine mutation induction to obtain plants that are resistant to disease, and the use of oil palm empty fruit bunches (TKKS) to overcome drought stress can increase soybean production. The aim of the research was to determine the effect of colchicine and the use of TKKS organic materials on increasing soybean production. The research was carried out from June to September 2023 on the agro-agricultural land of the Universitas Pembinaan Masyarakat Indonesia, Jl. Marindal II Village Hall, Pasar 12, Medan. The experiment used a factorial randomized block design (RAK) with colchicine (K) concentration treatment (0; 0.01%; and 0.05%) and EFB organic matter interval (M) (0; 5 kg/plot 1 WAP; and 10 kg/plot 5 WAP) repeated three times for each treatment. The results showed that soybeans treated with colchicine concentration had a very significant effect on plant height, flowering age, number of pods per sample, and seed weight per sample per plot at a concentration of 0.05% with a soaking time of 15 hours. The application of EFB organic material had a very significant effect on plant height, flowering age, number of sampled pods, and sampled seed weight at a dose of 10 kg/plot. The combination of treatments, namely K2T3 (0.05% + 10 kg/plot), is thought to have the response of both treatments simultaneously supporting the growth and production of soybean plants.
