Abstract

Stroke is a global health issue with high morbidity and fatality rates. Treatment decisions for ischemic stroke rely on clinical outcome prediction. The NIHSS score is commonly used to predict the AIS's clinical outcomes. However, its use is hindered by its complexity, which requires the assessment of many variables. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop a simpler yet still effective evaluation tool in assessing the AIS’s clinical outcome. The study aimed to predict AIS outcomes using the blood urea nitrogen to albumin serum ratio (RBA). This study was a prospective cohort study design, with subjects being first-time AIS patients hospitalized at RSUP Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo and several hospitals in Makassar from December 2022–April 2023. Demographic and clinical data were collected, assessing RBA and comparing it according to the good (mRS 0-2) and poor (mRS 3-6) outcome groups. RBA performance was assessed by receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis to assess the AIS's clinical outcome. The study's findings on 62 participants meeting the criteria revealed a significant association between RBA and the AIS's clinical outcome (p-value=0,0004). The mean RBA differed significantly between the good and poor AIS outcome groups (p-value =0,006). In the ROC analysis, the area under the curve (AUC) was 0,75 with an optimal cut-off value was 2,05, yielding a sensitivity of 41,67%, a specificity of 98%, and a likelihood ratio of 20,83 (p-value=0,007). In conclusion, RBA can be used as a simple and objective tool to determine the clinical outcome predictors of AIS.

Abstract

The prevalence of adolescents who spend >5 hours per day playing games has a higher risk of developing sleep disorders. Gaming addiction can cause sleep deprivation and the inability to concentrate, which can lead to attention disorders and impulsive behavior. This study is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design that aims to determine the relationship of sleep quality in adolescent gamers to impaired attentional function at SMP Negeri 30 Makassar which was conducted in January 2023. The total subject in the study was 64 people. Most of the subject had a duration of playing games of 3-6 hours per day, which totaled 35 (54,6%) people. Gamers who have abnormal sleep quality are 43 (67,2%). We found that the longer duration of gaming caused the sleep quality to decrease (p-value=0,032). There was a significant relationship between the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) score with the visual attention test score (p-value=0,001) and the digit span word test score (p-value=0,006). This study concludes that poor sleep quality is associated with impaired attentional function in the accuracy and reaction domain and impaired attentional function in the working memory domain.

Abstract

Obesity was a non-communicable disease that occurs due to the accumulation of excess fat in the body which can occur in all groups, including teenagers. The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors of sedentary lifestyle behavior as a risk factor for the incidence of obesity during the pandemic in early adolescents at the SMP/MTs level. The research method was analytic observational with a case control study design. The sample in this study consisted of a case group of 20 obese adolescents and a control group of 40 non-obese adolescents with a total sample of 60 people who were taken using a stratified random sampling technique. Data were analyzed using SPSS 25 to obtain the Odd Ratio (OR) value. The instrument used was the ASAQ questionnaire for adolescents aged 13-15 years at SMPN 3 Watansoppeng and MTs DDI Pattojo. The results of this study showed that sedentary lifestyle behavior was not a risk factor for obesity (OR = 8,143 > 1, CI = 0,976 – 67,944) during the Covid-19 pandemic in early adolescents at the SMP/MTs level in Soppeng Regency. Even though adolescents with high sedentary life style behavior have a risk of 8,143 times more risk than adolescents with low sedentary lifestyle behavior, this is considered insignificant because there may be other risk factors that influence the incidence of obesity, such as genetic factors and food intake. Even so, teenagers still have to increase their movement activities by exercising, playing outside the home, and reducing cell phone use.
