Abstract

Health as a complex problems requires prioritisation and identification of root causes to determine appropriate interventions. This study aimed to determine the priority health problems in Bonto Matene Village, Segeri District, Pangkajene and Islands Regency. Perform research using descriptive approaches. Univariate analysis was applied to determine the hierarchy of health concerns based on survey responses collected through standardized questionnaires conducted during interviews. The prioritization of health problems was carried out by utilizing Hanlon's qualitative method through focus group discussions. The Ishikawa diagram, also referred to as the fishbone diagram, was used to identify the root cause of a problem. The survey, which included 272 families and a total of 520 individuals, identified 14 health problems. The factors contributing to these issues encompass substandard waste management practices resulting in improper composting, occupational health disorders, occupational accidents, hypertension, insufficient COVID-19 vaccination doses (3), segregation of organic and non-organic waste, work-related injuries, ISPA (Influenza-like Illness), limited access to clean water, inadequate hand hygiene practices, smoking within the household, insufficient physical exercise, limited knowledge about HIV, and irregular consumption of TB medication. The primary health issue in Bonto Matene Village was a lack of knowledge about HIV. To address this, an intervention is developed to enhance HIV knowledge through direct education and various media platforms. The aim is to raise awareness and improve community understanding of HIV, while also promoting the adoption of safe and healthy behaviors in place of risky behaviors.

Abstract

Aloe vera gel (AVG) chicken nuggets are an alternative food that is very suitable for consumption by school-aged children. These foods contain protein and antioxidants. So that what is consumed is safe and of good quality, it is necessary to measure its shelf life using the total plate count (TPC) parameters and consumer acceptance of the product. This type of research is quasi-experimental for testing shelf life and pre-experimental for testing the acceptability of chicken nuggets among schoolchildren. The shelf life estimation method is ASLT (Accelerated Shelf Life Test). This research was carried out at the Padang Food Ingredient and Baristand Science Laboratory from May to October 2022. Acceptability tests were carried out at the domicile of the selected samples. The parameter used in storing AVG chicken nuggets is ALT. Data analysis was carried out on acceptability using the Wilcoxon test. The research results showed that the storage temperature with the longest shelf life was -200 °C, with a shelf life of 26,65 weeks. The average acceptance of the product by schoolchildren is 99,5%. This research concluded that the lower the temperature, the longer the shelf life of AVG chicken nuggets. School-age children well receive AVG chicken nuggets. Suggestions for storing ground and frozen meat products pay attention to temperature because temperature greatly influences the amount of TPC contamination.

Abstract

Discovery of black turmeric's anti-radical, anti-inflammatory properties and ability to inhibit the growth of tumor cells. This study aimed to evaluate the cardioprotective effects and identity the effect of black turmeric (Curcuma caesia Roxb) ethanol extract in preventing cardiac damage in mice induced by doxorubicin. The experimental design employed is a pre-post test control group design. The study used male Wistar rats weighing between 150-200 grams, divided into 6 groups, with each group consisting of 4 rats. The first group, serving as the normal group, was only provided with food and water. The second group received Na-CMC as a negative control, while the third group was given Vitamin E as a positive control. The fourth, fifth, and sixth groups were administered suspensions of black turmeric extract at doses of 100, 300, and 500 mg/kg BW, respectively. The rats were induced with doxorubicin at a dose of 5 mg/kg BW once a week for 3weeks. On the final day of treatment, the rats were fasted for 18 hours, anesthetized, and blood samples were taken for analysis. The rats were also secured on a surgical board. Following induction, CKMB and LDH levels were measured again, and histopathological observations were conducted. The results showed CKMB levels indicated significant differences between groups with p<0,05 (0,025), while LDH levels did not show significant differences with p-value>0,05 (0,225). Histopathological examination of the heart revealed improvements in function and structure in the group IV.
