Abstract

This study aims to examine Dr. Abdullah Nashih Ulwan’s thoughts on moral education for early childhood and its relevance in the context of modern education. Using a qualitative method with a literature study approach, this research explores Ulwan’s main work Tarbiyatul Aulad fi al-Islam along with supporting literature to uncover the concepts, values, and methods of moral education he proposed. The findings show that Ulwan places moral education at the core of the entire process of child development, based on three main principles: exemplary conduct (uswah), habituation (ta‘wīd), and good advice (maw‘izhah hasanah). The key moral values emphasized include morals toward Allah, oneself, parents and teachers, other people, and the environment. Ulwan’s ideas prove highly relevant in addressing children’s moral challenges in the digital era, as they emphasize the balance between faith, morality, and social behavior. The application of his thought can be implemented in both family settings and early childhood education institutions through the habituation of Islamic values, digital role modeling, and moral supervision. This study offers a synthesis between classical Islamic thought and modern educational theory, resulting in an integrative, spiritual, and contextual model of moral education for early childhood that responds to the challenges of globalization and technological advancement.

Abstract

This study originates from the need to understand the nature of humanity through two major concepts: fitrah in Islam and tabula rasa in Western philosophy. Both address the initial condition of human beings and the roles of innate disposition and environmental influence in moral, intellectual, and spiritual development. The aim of this research is to describe the concept of fitrah from the Islamic perspective, explain the tabula rasa concept within the tradition of Western empiricism, and compare both in the context of human development and their implications for education. This study employs a qualitative method with a library research approach, analyzing primary sources such as the Qur’an, Hadith, classical Islamic works, and the writings of empiricist thinkers such as John Locke, David Hume, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau. The findings indicate that fitrah represents the innate human potential inclined toward monotheism and goodness, whereas tabula rasa asserts that humans are born without innate ideas and are shaped entirely by experience. The comparative analysis reveals that both concepts converge in emphasizing the importance of education and experience, yet differ in their theological and epistemological orientations. The implications of this research highlight the necessity for holistic education that nurtures the innate spiritual potential of human beings while also considering the influence of environment and experience in character formation.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the daily prayer learning process, the formation of Islamic habits, and the challenges faced by early childhood children in the Magrib Mengaji program at Al-Khairi Mosque. The study employed a qualitative case study approach, involving ten children, two instructors, and two parents as informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation, then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The results indicate that daily prayer learning is conducted systematically using participatory, multisensory, and contextual approaches. Children actively engage through repetition, independent practice, and real-life application, supported by the roles of teachers and parents in reinforcing Islamic values. This habituation contributes to religious behavior, discipline, responsibility, empathy, and the internalization of gratitude and mutual respect. Challenges identified include limited attention span, the need for more creative teaching methods, inconsistent parental support, environmental distractions at the mosque, and variations in children’s intrinsic motivation. The study confirms that daily prayer habituation is an effective strategy for developing the religious character of early childhood children, requiring collaboration among mosques, instructors, and families, along with creative and contextualized learning methods

Abstract

This study examines the concept of religious psychology in early childhood from the perspective of Imam Al-Ghazali’s thought, aiming to describe his views, identify the fundamental concepts of religious psychology related to children’s spiritual development, and explore their relevance in the context of modern education. The research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach, analyzing Al-Ghazali’s major works such as Ihya’ Ulum al-Din, Ayyuha al-Walad, and Mizan al-‘Amal. The findings reveal that Al-Ghazali places spirituality at the core of personality development in children through key concepts such as fitrah (innate purity), qalb (heart), tazkiyah al-nafs (purification of the soul), adab (moral habituation), and the integration of knowledge and action. These five concepts form a framework of religious psychology emphasizing the importance of role modeling, habituation, and spiritual purification from an early age. Al-Ghazali’s ideas remain highly relevant in addressing the challenges of globalization and moral decline today, as they promote a holistic form of spiritual education centered on cultivating divine consciousness in children. Theoretically, this research contributes to the development of an Islamic Spiritual Development Framework for Early Childhood, while practically offering guidance for early childhood education institutions to implement curricula grounded in classical Islamic values.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the concept of holistic education in the thought of Imam Al-Ghazali and its relevance to early childhood education in the modern era. Using a qualitative method with a literature study approach, this research analyzes Al-Ghazali’s major works such as Ihya’ Ulumuddin, Ayyuha al-Walad, Mizan al-Amal, and Al-Tarbiyah al-Islamiyyah wa Madrasatuh. The findings reveal that Al-Ghazali’s concept of holistic education is rooted in the view of humans as integrated beings—comprising body, intellect, and soul. The ultimate goal of education, according to Al-Ghazali, is the formation of insan kamil (the complete human), who achieves balance across physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual dimensions. His educational philosophy aligns with the Holistic Integrative Early Childhood Education paradigm in Indonesia but adds a spiritual dimension as the core of human development. Its practical implications include moral value-based learning, teacher role modeling, balance between cognitive and physical activities, and spiritual habituation. The novelty of this study lies in synthesizing Al-Ghazali’s classical educational thought with contemporary early childhood education practices, producing a paradigm of “transcendental holistic education” grounded in Islamic values and responsive to the challenges of modern education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the dynamics of Islamic Early Childhood Education in the Era of Modernization at RA Islamic Center, focusing on three main aspects: the forms of adaptation to modernization, strategies for preserving Islamic values, and the balance between innovation and Islamic principles in learning. The research employs a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, involving 10 informants consisting of the principal, teachers, and parents. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analysis of curriculum documents and institutional activity reports. The results indicate that RA Islamic Center implements a selective and integrative adaptation model in responding to modernization. Modernization is not perceived as a threat but as an opportunity to enhance the quality of learning through the use of technology, creativity, and collaboration while remaining grounded in Islamic values. Learning innovations such as thematic projects, interactive digital media, and contextual methods are utilized to enrich children’s learning experiences. The preservation of Islamic values is maintained through regular worship practices, teacher role modeling, the integration of Islamic teachings into play-based activities, and strong cooperation with parents. The study concludes that the balance between modernity and spirituality can be achieved through the Selective-Integrative Adaptation Model, which employs innovation as a means to strengthen Islamic values. Theoretically, this research enriches contemporary Islamic education studies, while practically, it provides guidance for Islamic early childhood institutions to face modern challenges without losing their Islamic identity.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze teachers’ strategies in addressing the challenges of modernization in Islamic early childhood education at RA Muslimat Humene. The research focuses on three main aspects: (1) the forms of modernization challenges faced by teachers in the learning process, (2) the strategies teachers employ to respond to the influence of modernization on children’s religious values, and (3) the effectiveness of these strategies in maintaining Islamic character among young children in the modern era. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving the principal, teachers, and parents as the main informants. The results reveal that modernization presents challenges such as behavioral changes in children due to digital technology exposure, shifts in family values, and increasing materialistic tendencies in the social environment. Teachers at RA Muslimat Humene respond to these challenges through strategies such as role modeling (uswah hasanah), religious habituation, integrating Islamic values into the use of digital media, and active collaboration with parents. These strategies have proven effective in fostering Islamic character traits among children, such as worship independence, politeness, and social empathy. Theoretically, this study contributes to the enrichment of Islamic early childhood education studies in the context of modernization, while practically, it offers recommendations for Islamic early childhood education institutions to develop adaptive learning strategies that remain grounded in Islamic values.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and describe the model of Islamic learning based on interactive multimedia for early childhood at RA Muslimat Miga in the context of the digital era. This research employs a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach to gain an in-depth understanding of teachers’, children’s, and the school environment’s experiences in implementing interactive media in Islamic education. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving six main informants consisting of the head of the RA, four teachers, and one parent. The results show that the use of interactive multimedia such as Islamic animation videos, educational applications, and audio-visual media effectively enhances learning motivation, deepens children’s understanding of Islamic values, and strengthens their religious character. Teachers play a crucial role as facilitators and media creators who adapt learning content to the developmental stages of early childhood. This model demonstrates a collaborative, enjoyable, and meaningful learning process without neglecting core Islamic spiritual values. Theoretically, this study enriches the body of knowledge on technology-based Islamic learning, while practically it provides an alternative model relevant for Islamic early childhood education institutions to face the challenges of educational modernization.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and synthesize strategies for instilling the values of tauhid (monotheism) in early childhood education based on the thoughts of Al-Ghazali and Ibn Khaldun. Using a qualitative approach through library research, this study examines the primary works of both scholars, such as Ihya’ Ulum al-Din, Ayyuha al-Walad, and Muqaddimah, along with relevant secondary literature. The results reveal that Al-Ghazali emphasizes tauhid education as a process of tazkiyat al-nafs (purification of the soul) and the cultivation of heart-based awareness of God’s oneness through role modeling and habituation. Meanwhile, Ibn Khaldun highlights the social and methodological aspects of education, particularly the principles of tadrīj (gradual learning) and takrīr (repetition). The conceptual synthesis of their ideas results in an integrative strategy for tauhid education consisting of three core pillars: (1) the internalization of tauhid awareness contextualized for early childhood development, (2) gradual and joyful habituation aligned with the child’s developmental stages, and (3) a learning environment grounded in exemplary conduct and social solidarity. This strategy is highly relevant for modern early childhood education institutions as an effort to build children’s faith-based character, moral integrity, and adaptability in the digital age.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the perceptions of students in the Early Childhood Islamic Education (PIAUD) Program at STAI Sumatera Medan regarding the urgency of the Hajj simulation program (manasik haji) for early childhood learners, viewed from academic, character-building, and financial-benefit aspects within the context of Islamic education. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving ten students and two lecturers from the PIAUD program. The findings reveal that the students have a highly positive perception of the manasik haji program. They view it not merely as a ritual simulation but as a strategic educational medium to introduce the fifth pillar of Islam contextually and to instill Islamic values through real-life experiences. Academically, the program is considered effective in integrating children’s cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects through experiential learning. In terms of character formation, it helps cultivate religious awareness, discipline, cooperation, and responsibility from an early age. Regarding financing, students regard the program as a spiritual investment that provides long-term benefits for children, teachers, and educational institutions. The study concludes that PIAUD students at STAI Sumatera Medan possess strong academic and spiritual awareness of the importance of the manasik haji program as a meaningful experiential learning medium for shaping a Qur’anic generation with Islamic character.
