Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms of transitivity in online news texts reporting rape cases by PPDS doctors at Padjadjaran University. The analysis was conducted using the Systemic Functional Linguistics (LSF) approach, especially on the transitivity system which includes elements of process, participants, and circumstance. Data were obtained from three online news texts that were analyzed qualitatively-descriptively. The results of the study indicate that the most dominant process is the existential process, followed by the material and verbal processes, which show an emphasis on the existence of facts, the actions of the perpetrators, and the delivery of information in the text. The most frequently appearing participant element is existential, followed by actor, goal, and sayer and verbiage, which indicates that the text attempts to convey real events as well as statements from related parties. On the other hand, location circumstance is the most prominent element of information, followed by cause and manner circumstance, which underlines the importance of the context of place and background in the news. Overall, the dominance of the existential process and existential participants reflects the character of news texts that emphasize the existence of events objectively and informatively.

Abstract

The fairy tale Frau Holle by the Brothers Grimm presents a distinctive narrative structure, featuring an omniscient narrator and a strong moral message conveyed both implicitly and explicitly. This study addresses the characteristics of the narrator and the forms of modality used to construct meaning within the text. The research aims to examine the narrator's role in storytelling and to identify the types of modality it contains. A qualitative method is applied, using content analysis on relevant narrative excerpts from the fairy tale. The results indicate that the narrator is heterodiegetic and omniscient, which allows the narrative to be delivered with seeming objectivity while remaining laden with normative judgments. The dominant modalities are deontic (relating to obligation and prohibition) and epistemic (relating to certainty and possibility). These are used strategically to shape the reader's perception of characters, their actions, and the consequences they receive. Moreover, these modalities reinforce moral values such as hard work, obedience, and justice, which form the foundation of the story's ethical message. This study finds that the narrator and modality play a significant role in shaping meaning, moral evaluation, and the educational function of traditional literary texts.

Abstract

This study analyzes the representation of local wisdom-based art education through the character Mahar in the film Laskar Pelangi (The Rainbow Troops). Mahar, who shows a strong inclination towards art and traditional music, functions as a vital cultural symbol within the Belitung Malay community. The research uses a qualitative descriptive method with an intrinsic approach to explore the implicit cultural representations. Data were gathered via key scene observation, dialogue, and visual elements. Source triangulation and limited member checking ensured data trustworthiness. Findings show that Mahar represents local wisdom primarily through the use of the rebana (traditional frame drum) and the song "Bunga Seroja". The rebana symbolizes the community’s cultural and spiritual identity and strengthens social cohesion. The Malay song "Bunga Seroja" symbolizes the fighting spirit and reinforces camaraderie. This representation asserts that local wisdom-based art education, as embodied by Mahar, offers a solution for strengthening students’ cultural identity against globalization. The study addresses a gap in previous research which focused heavily on the film’s socio-economic aspects, overlooking the local art and cultural values championed by its characters.

Abstract

Ambiguity poses a significant challenge in communication, often causing misinterpretation or confusion in message decoding. The resulting lack of clarity can obstruct effective information transfer, as recipients may derive meanings different from the speaker’s intent. This qualitative descriptive study aims to identify and analyze specific forms of lexical ambiguity and grammatical ambiguity in Indra Frimawan's comedy content on the comika.id platform. The methodology focuses on analyzing humorous discourse related to ambiguity phenomena. The semantic approach is essential, playing a crucial role in the precise understanding and proper use of language through in-depth analysis of semantic meaning. Findings indicate 19 distinct forms of lexical ambiguity and 20 forms of grammatical ambiguity. Grammatical ambiguity is further categorized into 13 instances of temporary ambiguity and 7 instances of permanent ambiguity. This suggests that Indra Frimawan’s signature humorous style, which deliberately employs ambiguous wording, is an effective and unique means of entertaining the audience. It also provides a distinctive comedic blueprint for other stand-up comedians to explore. The study contributes to the understanding of intentional linguistic ambiguity as a source of humor.

Abstract

This study aims to comprehensively identify and analyze the effectiveness of various learning media in improving students’ writing skills within Indonesian language instruction. The research method employed is a quantitative descriptive meta-analysis. Data sources were systematically obtained from 15 academic articles on meta-analysis of learning media and writing skills, accessed primarily through Google Scholar. All selected publications met strict criteria, including a focus on the last five years (2020–2025) and SINTA accreditation status. Data collection utilized purposive sampling, selecting articles based strictly on thematic relevance. Data analysis involved calculating percentages to identify media dominance and conducting qualitative narrative reviews to synthesize findings. The recapitulation of findings reveals that digital media is overwhelmingly the most dominant type of media used (73.33% of the total), compared to analog or traditional media (26.67%). Furthermore, studies focusing on the junior high school level are the most frequent (40%). Crucially, the overall average effect size of the learning media use across all studies is 0.88. This high value falls squarely into the large category, thereby indicating a positive and statistically significant influence on enhancing students' writing skills.
