Abstract

This qualitative case study addresses the critical issue of pupils' adherence to COVID-19 Infection Prevention and Control Measures (IPCM) within the educational setting, specifically at Chancellor Junior Primary School in Mutare, Zimbabwe. Understanding the role of motivation in fostering positive behavioral change is crucial for mitigating disease transmission in schools. This research sought to understand how motivation affects pupils' behavior regarding COVID-19 prevention, and to develop strategies for improving their adherence to safety measures. Data was collected through purposive sampling of 30 participants, including 20 pupils, 6 teachers, and 4 parents. Focus group discussions, semi-structured interviews, and direct observations were utilized to gather rich, contextual data. Findings indicated that pupils generally exhibited positive behavior towards handwashing, staying home when sick, and cough etiquette. However, challenges were observed concerning consistent social distancing and mask-wearing. Both intrinsic and extrinsic motivational strategies were found to significantly influence pupils' adherence to IPCM, highlighting the importance of targeted motivational interventions. The study concludes that motivation is crucial for IPCM adherence, recommending interactive education, positive reinforcement, parental involvement, peer initiatives, and resource availability. These strategies, aimed at school, government, parents, and NGOs, are essential for creating a safer learning environment during and post-pandemic.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of gadget use and self-control on academic procrastination among university students. Using a quantitative approach with a non-experimental design, this research involved 75 students from the Faculty of Islamic Studies at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, selected through random sampling based on Slovin’s formula (10% margin of error). Data were collected through questionnaires measuring gadget use, self-control, and academic procrastination, then analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS. The results indicate that gadget use has a positive and significant impact on academic procrastination, while self-control has a significant negative effect. Together, these two variables contribute 82.1% to academic procrastination, with the remaining 17.9% influenced by other factors. These findings confirm that uncontrolled gadget use increases the tendency to procrastinate, whereas higher self-control minimizes this behavior. Therefore, effective strategies in managing gadget use and enhancing self-control are essential to reduce academic procrastination among students.

Abstract

Lying tendencies in young children are a prevalent concern that may arise from insufficient cognitive awareness, anxiety over repercussions, or inadequate moral instruction. This study explores how teachings of Aqidah Akhlak can be utilized as a proactive measure against dishonesty in pre-schoolers residing in Semarang City. Employing a qualitative descriptive framework, the research encompasses direct observations, discussions with educators and parents, and an analysis of educational documents. Results indicate that truthfulness can be nurtured effectively through narratives, music, and dramatization that highlight moral teachings. A nurturing educational atmosphere coupled with ongoing cooperation between teachers and families is vital for reinforcing these principles. Nonetheless, the challenge remains in maintaining consistency and distinguishing between creative expressions and lies. This research emphasizes the significance of embedding moral education into everyday classroom interactions to foster honesty from a young age.

Abstract

Motivation is the main driver of learning success. Based on A Theory of Human Motivation proposed by Abraham Maslow, motivation grows gradually when basic human needs such as feeling safe, valued, and self-actualization are met. In the context of Indonesian education, which is currently transforming, harmony between fulfilling students' basic needs and technological innovation is an important key to creating a healthy and meaningful learning climate. This article examines how Maslow's principles can be applied in the school environment to increase motivation and build student resilience, namely, their ability to recover from difficulties and remain enthusiastic about learning. In the digital era, artificial intelligence (AI) is opening new paths in education by providing adaptive learning that is able to recognize individual learning needs personally and contextually. AI not only makes the learning process easier but also strengthens the human aspect of education: building empathy, self-confidence, and resilience in students. Although Maslow's theory has drawn criticism, his basic thinking remains relevant as a foundation for forming education that is more responsive, fair, and in favour of the needs of the whole person.

Abstract

This study examined classroom interaction in English Language Teaching and Learning at MTs Terpadu Berkah Palangka Raya through a qualitative case study. It aimed to identify the interaction patterns occurring during lessons and the factors that influenced interaction in improving students’ English skills. The subjects of this study were an English teacher and a class of eighth-grade students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Flanders Interaction Analysis Category System (FIACS). The findings showed that teacher talk dominated the classroom, while student was relatively limited and silence/confusion appeared frequently. Student participation was mainly in the form of short responses, with very few initiations. Interviews revealed that psychological and linguistic barriers such as shyness, lack of confidence, and limited vocabulary combined with external influences including teacher-centered strategies, curriculum demands, and the cultural setting of madrasah, contributed to these interactional patterns. The results of the study conclude that interactions in English classes in this context remain teacher-centered, thereby limiting opportunities for students to develop their communicative skills. The study highlights the need for more student-centered approaches to enhance participations and support language development.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low ability of students to make mathematical conjectures in statistics learning, especially on the topic of measures of central tendency, which is caused by the lack of interactivity and student involvement in mathematics learning. To overcome this, the study aims to develop and analyze the effectiveness of Electronic Student Worksheets (E-LKPD) based on Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) with Liveworksheet as an interactive learning medium. This study uses a research and development method (R&D) with a quasi-experimental design. The subjects of the study were seventh-grade junior high school students who participated in statistics learning. Data were collected through a mathematical conjecture ability test, observation of student engagement, and a questionnaire of student responses to the learning medium. The results showed that E-LKPD based on RME with Liveworksheet significantly improved students’ mathematical conjecture abilities, as evidenced by the increase in average scores before and after the use of the media. In addition, students showed high enthusiasm and active involvement during the learning process. In conclusion, the use of E-LKPD based on RME with Liveworksheet is effective as a tool to improve mathematical conjecture abilities in statistics learning, while increasing student motivation and participation.
