Abstract

S.aureus infection was found to be around 5%-35% and cases of S.aureus resistance increased by 22.8% due to people being less compliant in treatment. One of the preventions of resistance is to return to the use of natural materials, especially plants that have been scientifically and empirically proven, one of which is Mahkota Dewa Fruit (Phaleria macrocarpa) and Green Meniran Herb (Phyllanthus niruri L.). The study was conducted using the True Experimental method using S.aureus bacteria. 3 treatment groups were used, namely positive control (Amoxicillin), negative control (DMSO), as well as Mahkota Dewa extract (Phaleria macrocarpa) and Green Meniran Extract (Phyllanthus niruri L.). Using the disc diffusion method and the dilution method to determine the magnitude of the inhibition zone, the value of MIC, and MBC. The extract of the Crown of God Fruit, The Green Meniran Herb, as well as the combination of the two extracts have successive bacterial inhibitory power with an average of 18.02 mm; 15.95 mm; and 15.09 mm against S.aureus. Testing by the dilution method obtained a KHM value of 60% (0.06g/mL) in each extract. KBM is not obtained in each extract.

Abstract

Hypertension is a disease without symptoms that is very dangerous (silent killer) because it is often not realized. Conditions that are not controlled and occur continuously will cause a disease factor related to cardiovascular disease. Empirically, matoa leaves are commonly used as antihypertensive drugs. This study aims to determine the activity of the ethanolic extract of matoa leaves as a diuretic and antihypertensive. Diuretic testing was carried out for 6 hours with urine volume measurement every hour. Each test animal was given warm water as a loading dose, using a comparison (Furosemide 3.6 mg/KgBW) and the matoa leaf ethanol extract test group with doses of 150, 300, and 500 mg/KgBW. Antihypertensive testing was carried out in a preventive manner using Prednisone 1.5 mg/KgBW and NaCl 2%, comparison (Hydrochlorothiazide 2.25 mg/KgBW) and the test group ethanol extract of matoa leaves with doses of 150, 300, and 500 mg/KgBW. given orally for 14 days. The test parameters were urine volume, systolic blood pressure and diastolic pressure. The data obtained were analyzed using One Way ANOVA and Kruskall Wallis. The results showed that the ethanol extract of matoa leaves could increase urine output, and decrease systolic and diastolic blood pressure because it had a comparable activity with the comparison group (p<0.05). A dose of 150 mg/kgBW has the most effective activity as an antihypertensive.

Abstract

The safety of using herbal plant extracts is essential for COVID-19 patients who consume herbal plants daily to increase immunity and overcome the symptoms of the disease. One of the herbal plants used by the community in COVID-19 therapy is Qusthul Hindi (Saussurea costus). The public needs to know the safety of these herbal remedies when consuming them. Therefore it is essential to conduct a toxicity test of Hindi Qusthul extract. Secondary metabolite compounds present in plant extracts can be tested for toxicity in vitro using the Brine shrimp lethality test (BSLT) method using Artemia salina Leach larvae to determine LC50 values. The BSLT method is used to determine biological activities in extract plants, such as cytotoxic activity, phototoxic, enzyme inhibition, and ion regulation, using Artemia salina Leach shrimp larvae as bioindicators. The BSLT method is carried out by observing the mortality rate in Artemia salina Leach shrimp larvae which are given extracts from plants and then incubated for 1x24 hours. The results obtained from this study as an LC50 (Lethal concentration) value of 532.78 ppm. LC50 (Lethal Concentration) value of 532.78 ppm indicates that the concentration of the compound can cause death in Artemia salina Leach by as much as 50%.

Abstract

Gel hand sanitizer is a novel product formula that can be utilized as a cost-effective and portable replacement for hand washing soap. One of the plants whose leaves can be used as a central component of hand sanitizer gel is the Paliasa plant (Kleinhovia hospita Linn). Staphylococcus and Escherichia coli resist the antimicrobial effects of alkaloids, tannins, and saponins. To create the hand sanitizer gel, three different concentrations of the HPMC gelling ingredient were used: 1%, 2%, and 3%. Variations in the amount of HPMC used in each formulation impact the gel's characteristics, particularly its viscosity, spreadability, and adherence. Following the cycle test, the three formulations' viscosity decreased, but their pH, spreadability, and stickiness increased. There was no significant difference between the stability test on day 0 and day 12 for pH, viscosity, spreadability, and gel adhesion, according to testing utilizing the paired sample T-test. > 0.05.
