Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of Publipreneur Based Language Learning (PBLL) as a thematic approach in teaching English, particularly for the creative industry. In finding the right way to design English materials for the creative industry, researchers conducted a student needs assessment through questionnaires, interviews, and classroom observation (simulation) in the learning process. The research questions were answered through eight items of respondents' understanding, namely: 1) Lecturers' perception of the creative industry; 2) Lecturers' institutional awareness; 3) The role of students in learning activities; 4) The role of lecturers in the learning process; 5) Evaluation in the learning process; 6) Difficulties in designing English materials; 7) Solutions in problem solving; 8) Designing PBLL Materials for Creative Industries. The findings of this study include three main points. First, to meet the needs, the design of English learning materials should be formulated according to the competency level of the Indonesian national qualification framework approach. Second, to meet the needs of the industry, the design of English learning materials should be able to encourage them in performing various technical skills and competencies needed by the industry. Third, to improve one's proficiency in understanding EOP materials, the design of English learning materials can elaborate Kathelen Graven's model with its modification by prioritizing concept actualization after content conceptualization.

Abstract

The steel industry, often regarded as the mother of industry, holds a pivotal role in fostering national economic independence and supporting vital infrastructure projects. In Indonesia, the development of the steel industry stands as a key indicator of industrial advancement. However, the landscape has evolved dramatically, with escalating competition not just from PT Krakatau Steel but also from numerous emerging competitors producing similar products. This dynamic situation demands an aggressive sales strategy to secure market dominance, especially given the challenges posed by both local and international competitors. Addressing this, PT Krakatau Steel faces the essential question of how to optimize steel sales, approaching or even matching the plant's installed capacity, amidst this competitive environment. The solution lies in proactive strategic planning, which involves a meticulous analysis of both external and internal factors. Recognizing the need for foresight, the company has employed scenario planning, envisioning potential futures for the steel industry. By considering variables like raw material prices and government policies, four scenarios emerged: Armageddon, The King, The King's Speech, and Cast Away. Each scenario prompts a specific set of strategies and actions. Moreover, the company has established early warning systems to discern which scenario might unfold, enabling timely and precise responses. This forward-thinking approach culminated in a comprehensive strategic plan designed to guide PT Krakatau Steel through the complexities and uncertainties of the business landscape over the next seven years.

Abstract

Planned murder is a regular form of homicide, similar to Article 338 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP), but it is carried out with premeditation. Notable cases of planned murder in Indonesia include the 'kopi siandia' case, which resulted in the death of Mirna, and the planned murder case of Brigadier J by Ferdy Sambo. The president can grant clemency upon the convict's request, taking into account the considerations of the Supreme Court. Clemency can be seen as a form of presidential pardon after the convict submits a request to the President. The aim of this research is to analyze the legal strength of clemency in mitigating sentences for convicts in cases of planned murder. This study is a normative legal research employing legislative and historical approaches. Primary and secondary legal materials are used as sources, utilizing qualitative descriptive analysis method. Convicts involved in planned murder cases who request clemency from the president may have their sentences mitigated by the court, either through leniency, a change in the type of punishment, reduction of the punishment, or the abolition of the punishment execution. This clemency is an acknowledgment from the convict, admitting to their actions based on the facts. Consequently, the president will consider whether to grant or deny the clemency request based on this admission, considering the Supreme Court's recommendations. Clemency serves as a legal recourse for convicts to lighten or modify their sentences.
