Interpersonal meaning expresses the social role connections that exist between both parties in communication. The current study aimed at discovering interpersonal mean-ing in related to MOOD preferences from inside of Folklore album arranged by Taylor Swift. MOOD refers to the grammatical structure that indicates the function of a sen-tence in expressing the songwriter’s attitude. Using a qualitative research method, this paper reports on MOOD choices as well as speech functions from inside of the chosen tunes of Folklore album. This research revealed that MOOD type of declarative clause and speech function of statement dominate the lyrics of the chosen tunes, while speech function of offer does not appear. Thus, the songwriter transmits the thoughts on the lyrics to the audience by providing the information. Considering the supplied criteria, the use of the singular pronoun “I” as the primary subject effectively fosters a sense of interpersonal connections. However, a deeper investigation of interpersonal meaning is required in order to enhance students’ English skills, particularly in the expression of attitudes in various language capabilities in related to reading, listening, as well as speaking.

Family language policy encompasses various aspects, such as identity, cultural heritage, communi-cation, education, and social integration within a family or community. Previous research has pri-marily focused on the use and preservation of native languages within multilingual societies, leav-ing a gap in understanding the relationship between family language policies and the acquisition of foreign languages in a familial setting. Consequently, this study presents a conceptual approach that explores key concepts and variables relevant to the family language policy approach, specifical-ly regarding the acquisition of Arabic by the Indonesian Muslim community. By analyzing the con-nection between the family language policy approach and variables related to foreign language acquisition, we hypothesized that the learning or acquisition of Arabic among Indonesian Muslims can be influenced by the language policy implemented within their families. Muslim parents play a crucial role in this process, both ideologically and practically, by providing an optimal learning envi-ronment and motivation for their children. As the family language policy involves decisions and practices governing language use and learning within the family context, it encompasses Muslim parents' choices regarding the Arabic language used at home, its application in specific activities, and their support for their children’s learning.

The ecological crisis is getting worse over time, resulting in various problems. The ecological crisis is widely represented in literary works but not much has been studied regarding its impact so it needs to be explained in depth. This study aimed to describe the impact of the ecological crisis represented in “Sumur”, a short story by Eka Kurniawan. The data of this research were words, phrases, clauses, sentences, paragraphs, and discourse in the short story. The data collection technique was a document analysis using the theory of ecocriticsm. The data validity technique used theoretical triangulation through data validity activities based on various theoretical perspectives. The novelty of the research was that no one had previously analyzed the ecocriticism in the short story before. The data analysis technique used interactive analysis. The findings indicated that the impact of the ecological crisis represented in "Sumur" short story included: 1) the effects on the environment in the form of drought, loss of water sources, loss of animal food and habitat, damage to agriculture, climate change, and damage to biodiversity; and 2) the effects on the socio-cultural relations of the community in the form of death and anxiety, population migration and urbanization, and the loss of community culture.

Independent learning is a powerful way to enhance English mastery. Yet, its effect on self-regulation is not yet explored further. This research investigated that matter by answering the following questions: 1) How is the independent learning activity per-ceived by English learners? 2) Can independent learning activities assist English learners in developing self-regulation skills? Twenty-nine university-level English learners participated in this qualitative-descriptive research which uses an open-ended questionnaire and interview. This study showed that independent learning is perceived positively by the participants. They mentioned that independent learning gave them more chances to understand the materials. Furthermore, they believed that the main outcome of independent learning was the increase in their English skills. For them, the enhancement on the self-regulation skills became a secondary outcome. As such, while independent learning has the potential to enhance learners’ self-regulation skills, the participants believed that they did not really grasp the concept of self-regulation and how independent learning would promote it. Thus, it is suggested that the learners must first be familiar with the concept of self-regulation and how inde-pendent learning can enhance self-regulation skills. This concept, therefore, must be promoted first by the teachers before independent learning activities are carried out.

Beauty standards are a cultural technique used to determine what is considered beautiful. Circe, Madeline Miller's story, exhibits a type of bias known as the beauty standard. Circe, the novel's main character and the daughter of Helios, the Sun God, is the subject of this study. Circe, the main character in this story, is treated differently, especially by her siblings, because she lacks the beautiful appearance and power of other Helios' children and ladies in her life. The goal of this study is to explain the cause of Circe's prejudice despite her upper-class status, the impact of beauty standards in Circe's life, and Circe's effort to combat beauty standards in society. This study was conducted using the New Criticism theory developed by W.K. Wimsatt and Monroe C. Beardsley. The writer adopts a qualitative descriptive method from the ground up. Circe encountered discrimination due to beauty standards, according to the findings of this study. Circe's appearance differed from that of most gods' progeny, so she did not meet these beauty standards. The writer then discovers the impact of these beauty standards on Circe's life, as well as the numerous efforts Circe makes to defy the beauty standards that surround her.

The prolonged conflict between Palestine and Israel has caused suffering and deep wounds in Palestinian society. However, amid this suffering, the Palestinians showed extraordinary resilience and a strong spirit of resistance. This study aims to analyze the text structure, social cognition, and social context in the Palestinian resistance poem Lam Yabqo Hibrun. The research data sources come from literature studies and internet searches. This research includes descriptive qualitative research with data collection techniques through documentation with Van Dijk's critical paradigm model. The data analysis technique includes data redaction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the research using the Teun A. van Djik model are (1) macro-structure; (2) superstructure, and (3) microstructure. Based on the critical discourse analysis of the poem Lam Yabqo Hibrun, it can be concluded that the information con-veyed meets the critical analysis level of Teun A. van Dijk's model (1) text structure; (2) social cognition and (3) social context. This research implies the spirit of Palestinian resistance to the oppression they face, as well as expressing a longing for freedom and justice, using metaphorical images of Jerusalem as the centre of the struggle and destruction experienced by the Palestinian people.

This study aims to explore the use of Javanese language in the domain of children’s social groups in the Mataraman Area of the Blitar border. Qualitative method is utilized in this study to provide a comprehensive conception of the linguistic phenomenon accurately without any treatment given to the subject matter. As a sociolinguistic study, it aims to observe the language attitude observed in the domain of children’s social groups in the border areas. In an effort to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic, the data was collected by a field team consisting of local residents to expedite the process while still adhering to the established health protocols. It is expected that this study can facilitate policy makers in fostering and maintaining Javanese language as the mother tongue of communities located in cultural border areas. Additionally, the current study can also be utilized as input for preserving and protecting Javanese language as children’s mother tongue as the next generation of native speakers of a certain community in an effort to maintain the identity of their local culture. The results show that there is indeed a shift in language use, i.e., the use of mixed languages—a combination of Javanese Ngoko and Indonesian or a unique mix of Javanese Ngoko, Indonesian, and Malay—as observed in a conversation among siblings when they played together. There are also three major factors that are seen to influence this shift, i.e., parental, technological, and social environmental factors, where these three contribute to children’s interactions.

This study aims to investigate the request strategies used by students and their lectur-ers through Instant Messaging (IM) in WhatsApp groups (WAGs). This study used a qualitative research design to analyze the language used by students and their lectur-ers in WAGs. The data was collected through the analysis of WAGs conversations be-tween students and their lecturers. Previous studies have extensively argued that stu-dents are less polite language users when sending texts to their lecturers, and the cur-rent study sought to examine the politeness strategies used by the students. The data analysis was carried out in the light the theory of speech acts proposed by Searle. The findings show that the subjects use certain strategies which contain politeness values. The Indonesian EFL context promotes more direct or indirect request strategies in and between the students and their lecturers. In addition, social power and social distance play a significant role in influencing the use of the strategies by students and lecturers in WAGs.

A popular language expression is music, as it is a symbolic avenue for conveying thoughts and emotions. In this research, Kun Anta songs will be analyzed and classi-fied into several types of deixis using Levinson’s framework, while correlating the con-tained optimism with relevant phenomena. It is shown that deixis is fundamental in expression. This study adopts a qualitative descriptive approach, focusing on the pro-cess and providing descriptive data to better understand the phenomenon under inves-tigation. The data undergoes three phases of analysis: data reduction, display, and con-clusion drawing, followed by verification. In our analysis we have found that the song Kun Anta reveals 53 persona deixis, 1 place deixis, 5 discourse deixis, 0 time deixis, and 0 social deixis, suggesting the dominance of persona deixis. The song's lyrics urge lis-teners to embrace authenticity and believe in their capabilities. Kun Anta’s lyrics close-ly correlate with the insecurity phenomenon, offering a significant moral contribution as a response.
