Abstract

This study purpose to: (1) identify the classical Islamic texts (kitab kuning) taught at Pondok Pesantren Mambaul Falah and Pondok Pesantren Mambaus Sholihin 2 in Blitar; (2) analyze the process of moderate Islamic education implemented at both pesantren; and (3) identify the similarities and differences between the two institutions. A qualitative descriptive approach was used, with data collected through in-depth interviews with administrators, teachers (ustadz), and students (santri) from both pesantren. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that both pesantren share common strategies in promoting moderate Islamic values through the curriculum of classical Islamic texts and student-centered activities. The kitab kuning are applied contextually to instill values of moderation, tolerance, and Islam as a mercy to all (rahmatan lil 'alamin). The educational process includes kitab kuning reading sessions (mathla’ah), problem-solving discussions (bahtsul masa’il), critical reflection on classical scholars (i’tibar), and daily poetry programs. The internalization of moderate Islamic values is also carried out through humanistic approaches, the use of culture as a unifying medium, and the actualization of Islamic teachings in harmony with national values. While both pesantren employ similar frameworks, each has distinct methods and emphasis in delivering their educational goals. This study highlights the important role of pesantren in shaping moderate Islamic thought within Indonesian society.

Abstract

This research aims to explore and analyze the thoughts of KH. Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) on Islamic education grounded in humanistic values, emphasizing the importance of an educational approach that transcends mere cognitive-intellectual dimensions by upholding human dignity, freedom of thought, and respect for plurality. The study employs a qualitative approach with a library research method. Data were collected through documentation studies, particularly from Gus Dur’s seminal works such as Islamku, Islam Anda, Islam Kita and Ilusi Negara Islam, as well as other relevant secondary sources. The data were analyzed using content analysis techniques.The findings show that Gus Dur's concept of humanist Islamic education emphasizes inclusivity, tolerance, and freedom of thought, while firmly grounded in the principles of equality, justice, liberation, and respect for diversity. These values form a strong philosophical and ethical foundation for Islamic education in a pluralistic and democratic Indonesian context. This study contributes to the academic discourse by offering a comprehensive reconstruction of Gus Dur’s educational thought, which remains underexplored in the context of contemporary Islamic education.

Abstract

This study investigates the interaction between the Hajj pilgrimage, the title "Haji/Hajjah," and spiritual morals in the religious journey of Muslims in Sumedang Regency. This research seeks to answer three main research questions: (1) How is the title of Hajj socially constructed within Sumedang society? (2) How does the Hajj pilgrimage influence an individual's behavior and beliefs? and (3) What role does Islamic religious education play in aligning religious titles with daily morality? The study is based on the fact that the term "Hajj" is often used as a symbol of social status, despite the essence of Hajj being the transformation and internalization of Islamic values. The phenomenological method was employed through in-depth interviews with scholars, pilgrims, and community members, supplemented by participatory observation and documentation research. Data were analyzed through phenomenological reduction, imaginative variation, and synthesis of meaning. The study shows that although performing the Hajj can improve the quality of worship, sincerity, and social concern, the title of Hajj is often "commodified" as a social status without accompanying significant moral change. Instead, an individual's behavior is more highly valued by society today than a formal title. Based on the study's results, the religious education curriculum should be strengthened by emphasizing sincerity, simplicity, and the internalization of noble morals so that religious titles truly reflect a genuine spiritual journey.

Abstract

This study examines the internalization of moderate Islamic educational values ​​towards a pluralistic society (a case study of Balun Turi Lamongan Village). Through this research, it can be explained about the internalization of moderate Islamic educational values ​​towards a pluralistic society (a case study of Balun Turi Lamongan village). This study aims to (1) To find out the Process of Internalizing the Values ​​of Moderate Islamic Education towards Pluralism Communities in Balun Village, Turi Lamongan District (2) To find out the values ​​of Moderate Islamic Education embedded in Pluralism Communities in Balun Village, Turi Lamongan District.This study uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. Therefore, this research process is expected to produce descriptive data in the form of written or oral data from people or behavior that can be observed to provide an explanation of How the Process of Internalizing Moderate Islamic Education Values ​​Against Pluralism Communities in Balun Village, Turi Lamongan District and What Are the Values ​​of Moderate Islamic Education Embedded in a Pluralistic Society in Balun Village, Turi Lamongan District. Abstract

The description of the communication structure in school organizations and the role of communication in educational management is one of the research objectives that the author discusses in this study. Literature review in the form of theories that are often used by predecessors which are then studied and reviewed to obtain a concept so that the results are objective. Formal communication, non-formal communication, informal communication, technical communication and procedural communication are forms of communication structures in school organizations that are the results of the study. The communication structure in school organizations is: horizontal communication, diagonal communication, downward communication, and upward communication. In educational management, the role of communication is as a source of educational information, controller and planner and achievement of goals. Communication is also an attempt to increase motivation.

Abstract

The concept of religious moderation is an attitude that places diversity as a shared wealth and prioritizes dialogue and harmonious values ​​in social interaction. Moderate Islamic religious education emphasizes the internalization of inclusive, tolerant, and non-exclusive Islamic values ​​so as to encourage the formation of a harmonious and peaceful society. This is very relevant in facing increasingly complex social dynamics in the era of globalization and unlimited information flow. This study aims to describe the process of internalization of moderate Islamic religious education values ​​in building harmony in the Laban Menganti Gresik village community, as well as to analyze the values ​​of moderate Islamic religious education in building harmony in the Laban Menganti Gresik village community. This study is a qualitative research using a case study approach. The data analysis used is the Miles and Huberman model combined with data triangulation. The results of the study indicate that the process of internalizing the values ​​of moderate Islamic religious education in building harmony in the Laban Menganti Gresik village community occurs through several gradual processes consisting of the stages of value transformation, value transactions, and value transinternalization. While the values ​​of moderate Islamic religious education in building harmony in the Laban village community consist of several values, namely: At-Ta'aruf, Tasamuh, tawazun, tawasuth, I'tidal, musyawah, syura. Scientifically, this research can contribute to a broader understanding of tolerance in religion to create harmony, encourage more harmonious relationships, prevent radicalism, and violence in the name of religion

Abstract

The Papan Tinggi Tomb is an old historical site located in Panangahan Village, North Barus, in the midst of a predominantly non-Muslim community. The existence of this site builds the assumption that a Muslim civilization was built in the early years of Islam entering and developing in the archipelago. This study uses a simple qualitative method to find a more comprehensive picture of early Islamic civilization in the land of Sumatra. Data were obtained by conducting participant observation at the tomb location which is on a hill with almost 1000 steps, interviews with tomb guards, visitors who come and reinforced by the results of previous studies. The results of the study explain that this tomb is the final resting place of Sheikh Mahmud al-Muftazam, a Sufi figure who helped spread Islam and Sufism in the Barus area which then spread throughout the archipelago. In addition to the tomb of Sheikh Mahmud, there are other tombs that are thought to be his students in the same tomb complex. Because of its role and services, this tomb is considered sacred and is now one of the religious tourism destinations. Although the main information about the area has not been explored well, the Zero Point Monument for the Spread of Islam in the Archipelago which was inaugurated by the government has at least opened the eyes of the world and the local community to the importance and strength of a civilization that once existed on the shores of Barus Beach.

Abstract

slamic education plays a crucial role in instilling religious and moral values amidst the challenges of globalization and the industrial era 4.0. Islamic boarding schools (pondok pesantren), as traditional Islamic educational institutions, hold a strategic position in shaping students' character through a moderate Islamic approach that emphasizes tolerance, inclusiveness, and rejection of radicalism. This study aims to examine the strategies implemented by Islamic boarding schools in strengthening moderate Islamic education in Lorejo Village, Bakung Subdistrict. The focus includes planning, implementation, and evaluation of these strategies. The findings indicate that the boarding schools positively influence the community’s religious behavior and foster an educational environment that promotes wasathiyah (moderate) values. However, challenges such as limited resources and conservative local culture must be addressed through adaptive and collaborative strategies

Abstract

This study aims to examine the process of internalization of moderate Islamic values ​​through Aswaja education at MTs Mambaus Shollihin, Hollo-Amahai, Central Maluku. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation related to educational activities at MTs Mambaus Shollihin. The research subjects consisted of the principal, teachers, students, and local community leaders. Data analysis was carried out inductively with the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the internalization of moderate Islamic values ​​at MTs Mambaus Shollihin is carried out through three stages: value transformation, value transaction, and value transinternalization. The value transformation process is carried out through the delivery of educational materials that emphasize the principles of moderate Islam, such as tawasuth (moderate), tawazun (balanced), i'tidal (fair), tasamuh (tolerance), and musawah (equality). The implications of this study indicate that Aswaja education at MTs Mambaus Shollihin is effective in forming moderate characters in students, which are expected to contribute to the creation of a peaceful, tolerant, and diversity-appreciating society. The recommendations from this study are the need to strengthen the education curriculum that emphasizes moderate values, and increasing the role of families and communities in supporting education based on moderate Islamic values.

Abstract

The research aims to describe the characteristics of moderate attitudes and the underlying processes that shape them within the community's socio-religious life. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal that moderate attitudes are reflected in openness, interreligious cooperation, active tolerance, and respect for diversity. The formation of these attitudes is influenced by multicultural life experiences, local wisdom values, the roles of religious and community leaders, and religious education that instills tolerance from an early age. Social media also plays a positive role as a means of education and interfaith communication. Moderate attitudes have become not only a social norm but also a community identity that preserves harmony and solidarity. These findings are expected to serve as a model for strengthening religious moderation in other multicultural communities across Indonesia.
