Abstract

Ensuring reliable measurement instruments is crucial for psychologists and practitioners. The Acculturative Stress Scale for International Students (ASSIS) is a widely used tool for assessing acculturative stress. An analysis of data from 100 international students in Indonesia demonstrated that the ASSIS met reliability standards, with AVE values between 0.50 and 0.63 and CR values between 0.73 and 0.91. The ASSIS also satisfied the criteria for content and construct validity. Additionally, the factorial validity of the ASSIS-1 CFA model met 5 out of 6 criteria, including RMSEA < 0.08, SRMR < 0.10, and NFI, CFI, and GFI values > 0.90, while the ASSIS-2 CFA model fulfilled all 6 criteria. Consequently, it can be concluded that the ASSIS is a valid and reliable tool for international students in the Indonesian cultural context.

Abstract

This study explored religiosity's impact on mental health stigma among 451 adults of various religions in Malaysia using quantitative methods. Participants, including Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, and Christians, completed the Centrality of Religiosity and Perceived Devaluation-Discrimination scales via an online Google form. Findings indicated high religiosity and moderate mental health stigma levels overall. Pearson correlations showed no significant relationship between religiosity and stigma across all groups. However, Buddhists demonstrated a small to moderate correlation (r = 0.27, p < 0.05) between Public Practice of religiosity and stigma, while Hindus showed a similar effect (r = 0.24, p < 0.05) with Experience of religiosity. One-way ANOVA revealed no stigma differences between religious groups. Addressing mental health stigma is crucial, given its impact on help-seeking behaviors. Future research should focus on fostering inclusive attitudes towards mental illness while respecting religious beliefs.

Abstract

As time progresses, the participation of women in the workforce is no longer considered taboo. Psychological well-being has become a focal point for experts due to its crucial role for career women. However, achieving it poses a challenge, especially for those with dual roles as employees and spouses/mothers. Efforts to enhance psychological well-being can be achieved through good social support. This research explores the role of work-family conflict as a mediator in the influence of social support on the psychological well-being of career women. The study employed a quantitative cross-sectional approach with purposive sampling techniques. The subjects consisted of 248 permanent female employees with families, and they were measured using the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, Work-Family Conflict Scale, and Psychological Well-Being Scale. Furthermore, mediation analysis was conducted using Hayes's PROCESS model 4. The results indicate that social support has a direct and indirect impact on psychological well-being (β =1.27; LLCI = 1.16; ULCI = 1.39) and also influences it indirectly through work-family conflict (β = 0.35; LLCI = 0.18; ULCI = 0.48). The findings emphasize the role of environmental support in the psychological well-being of career women.

Abstract

This study aims to adapt and validate The Racial & Ethnic Microaggressions Scale (REMS) into Indonesian in response to the lack of instruments that measure racial and ethnic microaggressions within the Indonesian context. The study involves the translation of REMS into Indonesian and instrument validation using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) with a sample of 526 participants from various cultural backgrounds. The EFA results showed a Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) value of 0.939 and a Bartlett's test value of 0.00, indicating that the data were suitable for factor analysis. In addition, five factors with eigenvalues > 1.0 and factor loadings > 0.30 were identified. Further CFA analysis indicated that the aspects of the Assumptions of Inferiority and Second-Class Citizen and Assumptions of Criminality had good validity with an Average Variance Extracted (AVE) > 0.5 and high reliability with Composite Reliability (CR) and Cronbach's Alpha (CA) > 0.7. In contrast, the aspects of Microinvalidations and Environmental Microaggressions showed lower validity and reliability. Therefore, this study provides a valid and reliable instrument for measuring racial and ethnic microaggressions in the Indonesian context, which can assist researchers and practitioners in identifying, understanding, and developing more effective interventions to address microaggressions in a multicultural society.

Abstract

Anxiety is a common occurrence among individuals facing transitions in life phases, including students who have certain hopes, goals, and standards of living related to their future. As they near the end of their studies, in addition to their final assignments, envisioning the future also becomes a source of anxiety for students. Anxiety is influenced by cognitive performance, especially the perception of things not yet experienced. Anxiety about the future is influenced by negative perceptions of things not yet experienced. One effective therapy in reducing this anxiety is positive thinking therapy. This study aims to prove the effect of positive thinking therapy on 17 male and female students aged between 20 – 24 years old. The participants were selected by purposive sampling method and obtained 17 participants. The 17 participants were randomly divided into two groups, as control and experimental groups. The experiments conducted with repeated measure control group design. The result of repeated measure from the experimental group showed F = 28.2, p < 0.01 and control group showed F = 46,1 and p < 0.01. Meanwhile, the results of independent sample t-test analysis showed a score of F = 2.25 with P < 0.05. The result showed that positive thinking therapy is capable to decrease the symptoms of future anxiety.

Abstract

Growing older is a definite cycle of growth and development in everyone's life. All kinds of joys and pains can be experienced, as the crisis of middle adulthood is a crossroads between the peak of psychological well-being and the stress of stress. This research aims to determine the influence of purpose and life satisfaction as predictors of coping with stress-inducing crises in middle adulthood. This research used a quantitative design with a sample of 96 middle-aged adults aged 40 and over. The research sample was selected using a convenience sampling method through an online questionnaire with multiple linear regression data analysis methods. The instrument for this research uses a meaning in life Scale prepared by researchers based on Frankl's Theory of the meaning in life, the LSI - A Life Satisfaction Scale, and the Stress Scale from the DASS - 42. The results of the study showed that the meaning in life and life satisfaction influence the crisis period of middle-aged adults in coping with stress. (R = 0.653; R² = 0.426; F = 34.557; p < 0.000) using multiple linear regression tests. The effect of purpose in life is not significant with stress (t = 2.132; p = 0.036), life satisfaction is significantly related to stress (t = 8.187; p < 0.000). Facing and coping with crises in middle adulthood therefore requires taking life satisfaction into account when seeking solutions to the stress they cause.

Abstract

Women in middle adulthood will face changes in physical appearance. For some women, these changes can lead to negative perceptions towards their body, resulting in psychological issues. Self-compassion is known to be a protective factor against these negative perceptions. Therefore, this study aims to determine whether self-compassion predict body image in middle adulthood women. The participants in this study are 352 middle adulthood women. The measurement tools used were the Skala Welas Diri (SWD) and the Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire-Appearance Scale (MBSRQ-AS). This quantitative research used convenience sampling as sampling technique and simple linear regression is utilized as a data processing technique to test hypotheses. The results found that self-compassion was proven to predict body image in middle adulthood women, accounting for 17.3%. The regression test results showed R²=0.173, F(1, 350)=72.969, p<0.001. This means that the higher the self-compassion, the more positive the body image in middle adulthood women.

Abstract

In the rapidly developing digital era, social media such as TikTok have become a part of adolescents' lives and have the potential to influence perceptions of body image. The intensity of TikTok use in adolescents has the potential to mediate the relationship between self-esteem and body image, as this platform is often a space for self-exploration and social comparison. This study aimed to determine the intensity of TikTok's social media use in mediating self-esteem and body image in adolescents. This study used a quantitative approach with a purposive sampling technique. The participants comprised 202 male and female adolescents aged 13 to 18 who completed the Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire (MBSRQ-AS), the Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale (RSES), and the intensity of the TikTok social media use scale. Furthermore, a mediation analysis was conducted using Hayes' PROCESS 4 model. The results showed that self-esteem directly impacted adolescents' body image (β = 1.1324; p = 0.0000; and CI = 0.9414 - 1.3233). This finding emphasizes the role of self-esteem in adolescents' body image.

Abstract

Academic engagement is key for students' academic success, life satisfaction, and overall student well-being. Emerging adult students often face various pressures that significantly influence their AE. This study aims to explore the mediating role of AB in the influence of a GM on AE among emerging adults. The study engaged with 314 students selected through convenience sampling. The instruments used were the GM Inventory, AB Scale, and Ultra-Short Utrecht Work Engagement Scale for data collection. The data were analyzed through Structural Equation Modeling using AMOS software. The findings demonstrated a positive and significant correlation between a GM and both AB and engagement. Notably, AB was found to significantly influence AE and played a substantial mediating role in the relationship between a GM and AE. The implications of these findings indicate that institutions should implement support programs aimed to enhancing AB and fostering a GM among students, thereby improving their AE, considering the complexity of interactions among these factors.
