Abstract

The objective of this research is the effect of using English blog on students’ writing ability in narrative text at tenth grade of MAN Labuhanbatu in the Academic Year 2020/2021. This research is quantitative experimental research methods. The design used in this research quasi experimental and used the Nonequivalent Control Group Design model. The sample used is purposive sampling from 4 classes X MIPA. The sample was used is X MIPA 1 as experiment class and X MIPA 2 as control class which has a subject 71 students. Instrument for collecting data were the tests namely pretest and posttest. The results of this research show that used of using English blog was there is any effect on student’s writing at MAN Labuhanbatu in the academic year 2020/2021. The researcher found out that increasing of experimental class which got mean 65.8 on pretest and got mean 74.4 on posttest. Because t count value higher than t table (2.969 > 1.667), means it Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. Keywords: Using English Blog, Writing Ability

Abstract

The STAD Cooperative Learning model is identified as a crucial factor in enhancing the learning process and outcomes. During observations in the field, researchers encountered a significant challenge: students' limited understanding of persuasive text formats in research tasks. This prompted an investigation into how effective the STAD Cooperative Learning model could be in improving eighth-grade students' comprehension of persuasive text structures at SMPN 5 North Tambun. Using a quantitative approach through quasi-experimental methods, the study employed a Nonequivalent Control Group design. Experimental and control groups were selected from classes VIII 2 and VIII 4, respectively, in a non-random manner from a pool of 181 eighth-grade students, with 33 students sampled from each class. The research proceeded in three stages: Pretest, intervention, and Posttest. Initial assessments (Pretest) gauged students' proficiency in analyzing persuasive texts. Subsequently, the intervention phase involved implementing the modern STAD learning model, supported by carefully designed teaching materials. Following the intervention, Posttests were conducted to evaluate how effective the STAD model was in enhancing students' ability to analyze persuasive text structures. The data analysis included tests for normality, homogeneity, and hypothesis testing. The findings revealed that the Posttest results in the experimental group (averaging 89.50) surpassed those in the control group (averaging 76.22). Moreover, paired t-tests indicated a significant difference (P = 0.000, < 0.05) between Pretest and Posttest scores. Therefore, the STAD Cooperative Learning model proved effective in enhancing eighth-grade students' proficiency in deciphering persuasive text structures. This study underscores the influential role of the cooperative STAD learning model in improving students' grasp of persuasive text structures at SMPN 5 North Tambun.Keywords: STAD type cooperative, persuasive text structures, SMPN 5 North Tambun students

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the ideology and power hegemony contained in the novel "Hujan" by Tere Liye. The research method uses qualitative method with content analysis technique. The data obtained from the novel "Hujan" focuses on quotations that describe ideology and power relations between characters. The results showed the representation of authoritarism, capitalism, and socialism in the novel represented through the behavior of characters, such as Lail, Maryam, state leaders, and scientists. In addition, this research also reveals the existence of power hegemony in the novel "Hujan". The power hegemony is depicted by state leaders who create and maintain their dominance through decision-making that affects society. The interaction between civil society and political society is reflected in the relationship between characters and institutions in the story. Thus, this study provides insight into the ideology and hegemony of power in the novel "Hujan" by Tere Liye. The results of this study are expected to help people to understand more about the social dynamics in society as well as the role of literature in reflecting and strengthening the ideology held by the dominant group.Keywords: Novel Hujan, Ideology, Hegemony

Abstract

The discussion in this research is about expressive speech acts with a pragmatic review. The aim of this research was to find out how many forms and functions of expressive speech acts. The data source used is the Novel Rain Episode by Lucia Priandarini. This research uses qualitative descriptive research. The data collection stage of the research used researchers using data collection techniques contained in quotations from sentences in the novel Episode Rain to obtain a number of data. The theory used is John Searle's speech act theory. The form of speech acts uses Wijana's theory. The function of speech acts using John Searle's theory is classified into expressive speech act functions including The function of apologizing, complaining, getting angry, criticizing, thanking, and congratulating. The benefit of this research is to provide additional knowledge and understanding of expressive speech acts which are studied using pragmatics. The results of this research show several forms of expressive speech, including apologizing speech (7), complaining expressive speech (2), angry expressive speech (5), criticizing expressive speech (1), congratulating expressive speech (1), expressive speech of thanks (1). Meanwhile, the function of expressive speech in the novel consists of several functions including: The function of apologizing (7), complaining (2), getting angry (5), criticizing (1), congratulating (1), and thanking (1).Keywords: Pragmatics, Expressive Speech Acts, Function, Form

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to seek information about the factors causing code switching and code mixing in the post-pandemic learning process of the Indonesian language in class XII Social Sciences at SMA YP Unila. This study uses a descriptive approach. The data collected are in the form of words, pictures, and not numbers. This research leads to an in-depth description of the meaning, clarification, and placement of data in their respective contexts and describes them in the form of words from numbers. The total code-switching in learning interactions is one-word data, two phrases, and five sentences; this shows that students' and teachers' interest in code-switching in both classes is shallow. As in code-switching, the form of code mixing in its interaction is divided into internal code-mixing and external code-mixing. In internal code-mixing, the language used is the insertion of Javanese in Indonesian sentences. Meanwhile, in external code-mixing, the language used is the insertion of English and Arabic in the interaction of Indonesian language learning. The implication aims to make it easier for teachers and students to understand word insertion during learning interactions and quickly understand what other people say when communicating. Keywords: Code-Switching, Code-Mixing, Indonesian Learning

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan upaya pemertahanan bahasa konjo di Desa Lana Kecamatan Wolo Kabupaten Kolaka. Jenis penelitian ini adalah kualitatif, subjek penelitian penduduk asli, usia lebih dari 17 tahun, Instrumen penelitian adalah peneliti sendiri dan didukung dengan handphone dan alat tulis (buku dan  pulpen). Pengumpulan data dengan observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan dan verifikasi. Hasil penelitian dan pembahasan menujukkan bahwa upaya pemertahanan bahasa Konjo di Desa Lana terdiri atas tiga upaya, yaitu ranah keluarga, ketetanggaan, dan ranah kerja. Ranah keluarga merupakan bagian inti dalam proses pemertahanan bahasa. Pemertahanan bahasa Konjo yang dilakukan masyarakat dalam lingkup ketetanggaan masih terus dipegang teguh hingga saat ini. Ranah kerja merupakan loyalitas atau kesetiaan terhadap penggunaan bahasa Konjo yang dilakukan oleh penutur dan mitra tutur di Desa Lana. Kesimpulan penelitian bahasa Konjo dalam ranah keluarga merupakan bagian inti dalam proses pemertahanan bahasa di Desa Lana, Kedua, pemertahanan bahasa Konjo dalam ranah ketetanggaan atau lingkungan sosial adalah salah satu upaya yang dilakukan masyarakat Konjo dalam mempertahankan bahasanya. pemertahanan bahasa Konjo dalam ranah jual beli merupakan loyalitas atau kesetiaan terhadap penggunaan bahasa Konjo yang dilakukan oleh P1 dan P2 di Desa Lana.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the dynamics of social interaction in literacy programs in classrooms. This research uses qualitative research, with a descriptive approach, which aims to describe the literacy program at SD Negeri 1 Sukarame Dua. Data collection techniques use observation. Interviews, documentation, and triangulation or combination. The results of research in the literacy program at Sukarame Dua State School 1 show that social interactions between teachers and students, as well as between students and each other, have a significant influence on literacy development. Positive and rich social interactions can build enthusiasm for learning, facilitate the exchange of ideas and knowledge, and encourage collaboration between students. However, challenges such as students' lack of interest in reading, lack of adequate social interaction, and limited resources such as limited reading materials, can affect students' ability to communicate and understand reading materials well. Therefore, efforts are needed to increase students' interest in reading, improve social interactions between students and teachers, and expand resources such as reading materials and learning facilities in order to run optimal literacy programs. Keywords: Social Interaction, Literacy Program, School

Abstract

This study aims to identify the humanistic aspects that experienced by the character Jadag in the film “Turah”. This research using descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques observative and using Maslow's theory in identifying the humanistic aspects experienced. The data in this study is a conversation and the behavior of the character Jadag in the film “Turah”. This research focuses on the efforts of Jadag leaders in meeting multilevel needs. Abstract

This research aims to explain how the characters in the movie Mencuri Raden Saleh by Angga Dwimas Sasongko experience social events and conflicts. Ralf Dahrendorf's conflict theory can be used to identify social conflicts. The data used is taken from movie footage that illustrates social conflict. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative method. In addition, researchers used the listening method in collecting data. This research results in that all conflicts in the movie are caused by the injustice of the ruling party as the holder of power from the ruling party. Conflicts occur between Piko and her friends with the police, Fela with the car driver, friendship, Piko's father with Permadi, Piko with her father, and Sarah with Permadi's men. All of these conflicts originate from the former President, Permadi. The implication of this research is that what Piko did is the same as what some people experienced during the New Order era. To obey the will of the Supreme Father, he will do anything, including committing crimes. If we dare to refuse, don't expect our safety and that of our families to be protected. After conducting this research, there are limitations in using Ralf Dahrendorf's conflict theory, namely not maximizing or exploring the theory. Suggestions for future research are to try to use other theories to be more varied.Keywords: film, conflict, painting, representation

Abstract

This study aims to describe the structures forming an adverbial phrase in the Batak Toba language. This research is a qualitative research. The data in this study is in the form of Batak Toba text. Data sources are obtained through observation, interviews, as well as using researchers' intuitive data as active speakers of Batak Toba language. At the observation stage, researchers were directly involved in the conversations of several Toba Batak speakers in a coffee shop. Then an unstructured interview was conducted using provoking questions to the informant. The type of question given is related to the grammatical acceptability of phrase structure in the Batak Toba language. While in the process of data analysis is carried out by grouping data based on the similarity of elements, then determining the right elements is carried out. The results of research and discussion show that in the Toba Batak language there are 4 rules of adverbial phrase structure in the Toba Batak language, yaitu: (1) Adv + A = Adv’, Adv’ + Spes = FAdv, (2). A + Adv = Adv’, Adv’ + Spes = FAdv, (3) Ad + Adv = Adv’, Adv’ + V = Adv’, Adv’ + Spes = FAdv, (4) Adv + Ad = Adv’, Adv’ + Adv = Adv’, Adv’ + Spes = FAdv.Keywords: adverbial pharase, Tobanese, X Bar theory
